Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu

- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

comco: So I get beta access but the key expired before I got a chance to use it. Any chance in getting another key guys?
It's still an alpha.

tarasis: Anyone know how to tell the Galaxy client to use the English version of the website? The app itself is in English which is great, but the Store and Library pages are in German. I had hoped that telling GOG.com in Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer that I want it to use English might do the trick, but apparently not.

Grargar: For the time, the client is using your IP to set your language. There will be an option to set the language of your choice later. Relevant post.
Cheers, that's a pain but oh well. As long as the feature is there by the time it releases (and we must be getting close now)

Ok. Please re-read the above with the word 'alpha' in place of 'beta'. ;)

please try your key again.

Tarm: Well I can't update the client or connect to GOG with it since a couple days. Did my test period expire or something? I'm already addicted to getting my GOG news from Galaxy...
avatar
Venom: We're still doing some backend shenanigans today, please bear with us :) All should be well by the end of the day.

What version of the client are you running?
I had the same issue. Today I uninstalled the client, redownloaded and installed. Logged in fine. Found my games just fine. Everything is good.
Hi, is 0.6.3.785 the latest version? can't get the cmd command working to update.

DizNL: Hi, is 0.6.3.785 the latest version? can't get the cmd command working to update.
It's the one I have in the rig where Galaxy works.
OK. It's probably a stupid question, but I wonder.

Every freeware game on GOG got an update for some reason. Was there an actual update for those games (and if yes, what were the changes), or was it Galaxy acting up weird?

Edit: Shadow Warrior Classic (even though I'm not on Linux) and Rise of the Triad 2013 are tagged too. What the hell?

Re-Edit: Akalabeth and Alien vs Predator Classic 2000 too. This is an epidemic!

I logged a fault with game downloads sticking before reaching 100% on 31 March (001391) and on 9 April another user, EasyGamer logged the same fault (001436). Because I added a note to the later case pointing out the duplication I now receive updates for it via email. Both cases are assigned to a tech called 'MC'.

EasyGamer has now had two requests for further information and my report hasn't even been acknowledged despite my uploading new logs and posting several updates. In fact, I had more help here a week or so ago from Destro and Spinorial, but my games are STILL not getting past the download point.

Is there any chance of getting someone to actually look at MY case please? I haven't been able to install a game for weeks now.

We're updating some games for compatibility with Client import function - if you already have these games installed, it can result in some update (game version installed with the installer must be identical with the version in Galaxy, meaning if we update one we have to update the other).

As for Shadow Warrior, I believe it had DX11 Version registered in Galaxy today.

He's talking about Shadow Warrior Classic Complete, not about Shadow Warrior (2013).

I'm sorry LynetteC but we've looked into it but we cannot reproduce this issue on any computer or configuration and we haven't found it in logs / bug reports beyond the two you have linked to out of few thousands of active testers. The further information you've provided also couldn't help us find any lead, meaning that it is most likely some very specific networking / config issue than a widespread bug. I'm saying this, because we do have to prioritise things and if we cannot find a solution to an oddity, we do have to get back to it later.

There will be a new update in the next few days - please be patient, maybe it will improve things. If not, as we invite more testers, maybe we will be able to isolate some factor having more people onboard.

Right. Well, generally I wouldn't consider situations where games are getting updates in (Client) alpha / beta as anything weird as long as there was no update loop / the update happened only once. We're still in process of updating and polishing games in the Galaxy Content System, and every time we do it, an update will also trigger. Usually these are very small, except for some games built in a very specific way (I've mentioned a bit more about it in my second reply here: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_galaxy_client_closed_alpha/post1332)

Once we're happy with how things looks like in terms of games in Galaxy, updates will be happening pretty much only whenever a game is actually updated with some new content (= patch).

Thanks for your response Destro. It just seemed odd that the later log has been getting attention where mine hasn't.

I've been trying to install Lands of Lore 2 - Guardians Of Destiny since the weekend and it keeps hanging at 100% (0.0Kb) and it seems to be a problem accessing Dosbox:

2015-04-29 23:50:08:419 [galaxy_client][Error]: Timeout occurred during PerformRequest (requestId: 21646CF3DD39) for url [url=http://wpc.11df.edgecastcdn.net:80/0011DF/content-system/v1/redists/DOSBox074glideC/31831595/main.bin]http://wpc.11df.edgecastcdn.net:80/0011DF/content-system/v1/redists/DOSBox074glideC/31831595/main.bin[/url]: Timeout after 600052ms
2015-04-29 23:50:08:462 [galaxy_client][Error]: Internal server error (request: 21646CF3DD39) while trying to get access to binary file main.bin
2015-04-29 23:50:08:472 [galaxy_client][Error]: File 'DOSBOX\dosbox.exe' part 3 download failed: 2; downloadErrorCount: 9, responseCode: 0

I've tried downloading with my antivirus turned off and a network connection monitor shows no breaks in my internet connection. I'm not ruling out a a problem at my end, but it seems odd that it keeps happening at a similar point in multiple games, especially as it happens after the majority of the files are downloaded.

Are there any specific ports I need to make sure are open in my firewall?
My Galaxy Client stopped being able to connect or log in so I uninstalled it with hopes of installing the latest version, but then I realized I don't have the key anymore. Is it possible to get it resent or something? :(
