Try the DRM-free online gaming platform.

GOG Galaxy: our truly gamer-friendly, DRM-free online gaming platform. As we shared our vision with the world, we promised auto-patching, social functionality like chat, friends lists, and achievements. We promised our own multiplayer support and cross-play with Steam. Most importantly, we promised truly optional.

Today we deliver.
The GOG Galaxy client enters beta, open to anyone, with the most important functionality ready to try, test, enjoy (and break) at your leisure. We're proud to have gotten this far, and we know that we couldn't have done it without you all - that's everyone who spent months in alpha testing, that's those of you who talked to us about your needs and expectations, and it's every single one of you that has supported us since ever. So thanks, GOG Galaxy is for you!

With the GOG Galaxy Beta, you can install your games in one click and keep them up to date automatically, the beta currently supports this feature in all but a couple of titles available here. You can also perform backups easily by downloading a standalone installer through GOG Galaxy. The beta features a friends list, game time tracking, achievements, and chat. You can now talk to each other, connect with your group of friends, and see what everyone is playing. You can also try out our online multiplayer & matchmaking solution that, in select titles, includes cross-play: platform-independent multiplayer between gamers on GOG.com and Steam. If you download a patch that breaks something or if you just change your mind, the app will soon feature a unique rollback option to restore a previous version of your game.

Best of all, GOG Galaxy is optional. If you don't want to use any additional software, your experience with us won't change at all. If you only want to take advantage of select conveniences, you can toggle them on and off. It's all totally up to you.

You can sign up for the GOG Galaxy Beta and find out more on gog.com/galaxy, where we tell you about the features and answer many of the questions you may have. We'll be watching the forums carefully, so feel free to leave a comment if there is anything else that you'd like to know!

JudasIscariot: Please report this on Mantis with your logs so that our devs can see what's up :)

green.anger: Since you mentioned Mantis, could you help with finding logs? Mantis says it's in \Galaxy\Logs, and I've got 1.0.0.871 version installed named "GalaxyClient" with no Logs\ folder inside. Where are the logs? And can I report a bug without logs? (Mantis says I shouldn't)
Depending on your system:
On Windows Vista or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

And this is the issue I tried to explain, probably not so clearly. I do not have any folder named "Logs" or similar. And I didn't mention it but my system is Win 7 x64.

Oh ok sorry my bad. Did read your message too fast ;-)
Let me check if I find something...
But in regards to your other question. You can also post on mantis without logs, it really depends on the kind of error you want to write about.

[edit] Sorry, could not find anything about people not having logs. And since I am at work I can not check the client for myself at the moment ;-)

Ok, cool, thanks! Will report without logs. Appreciate your effort, would be nice to understand how logs work. My assumption is nothing logs until something happens. And I haven't had any malfunctions of Galaxy yet.

Ah yes. I thought you had encountered some errors :-)
Logs in alpha were created when errors occured. And if nothing happens, no logs. So this is probably still true in beta.

Well, I've encountered something I consider to be an error, but no crashes. It's more unexpected behaviour within the client. And I didn't participate in alpha testing, hence no idea about logs. Thank you for clarification! Case closed.
Galaxy so far works really fine for me. Already used it to download a couple of games. Works as nice as the GOG downloader.

I wonder only why they have hidden the download of the game in the "More/Download Extras" section?

Also it still has one disadvantage over the Downloader, you cannot download all Extras with one click. Would be nice if this would be implemented too. It may already have been suggested on the bug tracker as feature request, but the search is not very good. If not, I would propose it.

CactusSinger: Did you, or anyone, find a solution to solve this? I have the exact same issue and I have reinstalled the beta in the same folder than the alpha. Now none of then are working and gave me the same error message: "essential components needed to start GOG Galaxy are missing. Please reinstall the application."
Any ideas?Thanks

skeletonbow: Many people have had this problem, read back through the thread as it has been answered many times already. Hope this helps.
Ok I found the link to the answer on the Alpha thread. I post it here, it might help.
http://mantis.gog.com/my_view_page.php

All i've done was to uninstall the client, opened the windows console and type: sc delete GalaxyClientService
Then reinstall the client.
Worked for me.

Hope this help.
Where the game extras storing when I download them? I tried on several game but didn't get where are they gone :/

+1. Not a major for sure, but can become annoying for some games with tons of extras. In the wishlist I think it's this thread: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/add_option_to_manage_extras_and_installers

Can't you set a place where all the download stuff of the client goes in the settings? I think the extras will then go there too. Sorry if that is not true, I can't check it myself at the moment, but that is how I remember it.

In Galaxy Client in the bottom left corner click gear symbol (Settings menu) and select path in "Download extras to".

Look into the settings, it's the directory directly at the bottom. The one above is just for temporary storage during download.

Oh yes there we go. Thanks guys!

P.s: Also can get it via arrow icon at the left beside that gear icon then I can able to go directly to downloaded folder by clicking search icon when move the cursor over the title.
