Try the DRM-free online gaming platform.

GOG Galaxy: our truly gamer-friendly, DRM-free online gaming platform. As we shared our vision with the world, we promised auto-patching, social functionality like chat, friends lists, and achievements. We promised our own multiplayer support and cross-play with Steam. Most importantly, we promised truly optional.

Today we deliver.
The GOG Galaxy client enters beta, open to anyone, with the most important functionality ready to try, test, enjoy (and break) at your leisure. We're proud to have gotten this far, and we know that we couldn't have done it without you all - that's everyone who spent months in alpha testing, that's those of you who talked to us about your needs and expectations, and it's every single one of you that has supported us since ever. So thanks, GOG Galaxy is for you!

With the GOG Galaxy Beta, you can install your games in one click and keep them up to date automatically, the beta currently supports this feature in all but a couple of titles available here. You can also perform backups easily by downloading a standalone installer through GOG Galaxy. The beta features a friends list, game time tracking, achievements, and chat. You can now talk to each other, connect with your group of friends, and see what everyone is playing. You can also try out our online multiplayer & matchmaking solution that, in select titles, includes cross-play: platform-independent multiplayer between gamers on GOG.com and Steam. If you download a patch that breaks something or if you just change your mind, the app will soon feature a unique rollback option to restore a previous version of your game.

Best of all, GOG Galaxy is optional. If you don't want to use any additional software, your experience with us won't change at all. If you only want to take advantage of select conveniences, you can toggle them on and off. It's all totally up to you.

You can sign up for the GOG Galaxy Beta and find out more on gog.com/galaxy, where we tell you about the features and answer many of the questions you may have. We'll be watching the forums carefully, so feel free to leave a comment if there is anything else that you'd like to know!

wolfsite: Earlier in the thread they said they can be disabled.

Siegor: Oops, my bad. I just noticed the news and posted without reading previous posts. Thanks.
No worries, it happens.

Siegor: Are the achievements one of the things we can disable? I personally dislike getting those superfluous pop-ups when playing since it breaks immersion.
Disabling that feature probably won't stop messages in the game, it only stops achievements from being transmitted to where ever they would go.

At least that's how games with Steam achievements usually work, even if you don't use Steam.
A way to choose the installation folder for every game singularly?

Byeohazard: 0.7.0860 is my current version. I am assuming this is still the ALPHA and an auto update will occur . My game shelf still list Galaxy as ALPHA.
Same here. Eargerly waiting! :)

Yep, in the settings there is an option titled "manage all folders Separately"
I've got to say I'm fairly impressed so far. I know it's still a beta and that a lot of functionality is still missing, but I really like the side-bar for launching stuff while browsing other screens and overall everything pertaining to launching games works well. I super-appreciate like that there's a function to scan for GOG games that are already installed, although it could be a bit more prominent (maybe have a button asking users if they would like to run it the first time they launch galaxy) and it doesn't seem to have picked up every game. Also, some games with multiple versions, such as Akalabeth, show up with two identical icons in the side-bar. Also, also, also, the Police Quest games didn't seem to launch until I uninstalled my old installation and reinstalled through galaxy. Lastly, some way to sort by franchise/series would be nice though (again, I fully realize this is a beta). Overall though, this is nice work.

Uhm... There's ones regarding managing all folder manually but it actually does nothing. There's also no way to easly stop download or other options, you have to go on a different page every time.
I guess my client didn't update yet, I clearly still have that ugly alpha. What version is the client now, mine is 0.7.0.860

Ya mine is still an Alpha build as well. I'm hoping someone posts some info on when the update for the Alpha version will be out or at least the version build of the beta.
Glad GOG is doing this. Good to have more choices and I'm excited to try out the beta. Keep up the good work!
Will GOG Galaxy eventually have Visual Novels and Eroge (erotic games) as well?
Asking this, because Steam refuses to sell Eroge.

Lol those birds, didn't knew they sold VN already.
But will they sell Eroge as well?
So, where is the link for the beta client?

Or this one?
Disabling achievements, will that disable the messages? I don't care about them but it's the annoying messages that bothers more so than the achievements themselves.

Looking forward to test the new features. :)
