== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

jovan111p: How to change instalation directory in GOG Galaxy?
Its on C by default but I want to install my game on D.
How to do that? Thanks
Click the gear icon at the bottom of the installed games panel. The Settings dialog will come up. Click the "..." button next to the "Install game to:" input box, and a browse dialog will come up. Select your desired location, click OK. Click OK on the Settings dialog.

Since there isn't yet a helpfile in the app (I submitted a bug report for this, because that's a big deal), can we have a pinned thread seperate from this one for user-to-user documentation and support until a help option becomes available?

I used to write user docs, so I can create some rough documentation, but I don't know yet what will work and what won't in settings, because I haven't done extensive testing of what works and what doesn't yet.

Venom: 2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.
Please be aware that Client will accept any folder pointed to and will overwrite files inside it (this can for example wipe some mods or damage other apps in case of pointing to a wrong folder) and will update the game to the newest version (current default language English).
My client could not find my witcher 3 preload, without having touched anything but restarting Galaxy. There was an update, so it could have erased my files (but they got somehow erased). I tried to import the folder and all it does is reinstall the whole game.... I have been able to restore the game using a Recurva, but it didn't work and is reinstalling from scratch too.
I am currently testing whether changing the download folder to custom folder prevents the downloaded file from autodeleting. I am guessing not, because the format downloaded by Galaxy is substantially different from the web or old GOG downloader downloads, with a numerical string folder title and different file structure. Aha, Finished, no, it doesn't. (see attached images newfileformat shows during download process, noarchive shows the folder after it's complete)

Also: Will we have to download the game files via the website in order to have an offline archive of the installer once Galaxy is out of Beta? Because not everyone is on unlimited bandwidth connections, and if this is so, it will affect usage of Galaxy. I would rather not have to download files twice if possible due to connection speed and usage caps, and I am certain I'm not alone. I want to use the app, it's got lots of potential, but as of now, it is not really functional.

Did you have your games installed under the GalaxyClient folder by chance, seems to be an issue for people that do...

If I'm getting what you mean, the downloaded files don't autodelete. What Galaxy does is store those unpacked files temporarily while downloading, then moves them to your main install directory. This is likely to prevent messed up downloads from effecting your actual install until completion.

Eventually Galaxy will include install scripts for archives which should make backing up your games no problem...

Nope. There is no installer in the game install directory, I just did a second test. The first test was using the default download directory, and had the same result.

pyrotek85: Well I'm back with new and exciting problems lol

I'm now trying to install on my gaming rig, and both brand new installations and imports are failing due to an 'out of disk space error', when I actually have over 400+ GB free. First difference that comes to mind between this machine and my media server where the installs worked, is that this one is using an SSD.

Anyone with SSDs installing successfully? Anyone with mechanical drives getting that same error?
avatar
KyojinKun: Same here. No SSD though, classic HDD. Getting "Installation failed: out of disk space" when trying to update existing games or install new ones from the library. Running GOG Galaxy 1.0.0.871. Have 150 GB available on the drive.

Running a 64-bit Windows 8.1. My already installed games are at "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\GOG Games" instead of "C:\GOG Games".

Client is installed at "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Galaxy Client". Maybe should have left that to "C:\Galaxy Client" ?

Done the following so far:

• Installed the client
• Changed default game installation folder
• Scanned existing games folder to import them
• Games tried to update, but failed with "out of disk space" error
• Closed the client, restarted it with administrator privileges
• Games tried to update, but failed with "out of disk space" error
• Tried to install a game from the library, but failed with "out of disk space" error

Thought it might be related to the games being installed in French but installer trying to update with English versions (hey, you never know), but it does not seem to be related to this, since for instance Banished and Rogue Legacy are only available in English.

As of now, it just keeps retrying and failing.
If you need more details, please let me know.
Same problem here. I have all my GOG games in "ProgramFiles(x86)\GOG Games," but when I tried to import them one by one I got "INSTALLATION FAILED: OUT OF DISK SPACE." Sure would be nice to get even one game working...

Not sure what you mean. There's not suppose to be an installer in the games install directory.

1. Galaxy temporally stores the files while downloading the unpacked files (ie not a standard GOG installer) in a temp directory (C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\downloads by default).
2. Galaxy moves these to the install directory (C:\GOG Games by default) when done.
3. Games is installed via an installation script.

Eventually you should be able to zip those files in the install directory and then unzip them on another PC for instance and click the install script which will run (creating what the games needs to work)... meaning you will be able to create a effective backup easily. There is no install script available yet however, it's planned.

Destro actually explained this:

If you click install, it always downloads game in pre-installed form on per-file basis. Yes, there is an ntallation script executed at the end which might look like our installer file name and can get big depending on redists included, but it cerainly isb't the standalone installer being downloaded and launched. If there is any exception to this, I'm not aware of it.

There is a compression planned to speed up initial installation as well as support for byte differential patching to speed up updates. No ETA.

In regaerd to question about archiving installations - said installation script will be in future included with game installation for games that require it. This way the installation will be backupable and upon resoting it on a fresh OS all it will take will be launching the script to have it working.

Same here trying on Windows 8.1 64-bit, I get the OUT OF DISK SPACE error for every game, imported or otherwise. Still happening with latest 1.0.1.917 beta... Hope this gets fixes soon otherwise I can't use Galaxy at all...

I should probably mention that I'm on Windows 8.1 64-bit as well.
This has probably been gone over, but question.

I pointed GOG Galaxy to my old (non-Galaxy) installation of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. It detected it and started apparently reinstalling (I assume that's what the OP means by "overwriting files".

But it's only 6gb. Does GOG Galaxy only install one language, as in English? Because that'd be useful, actually. I remember the alternate voices taking up quite a few GBs in the original installation.
The Client can't find either The Witcher 1 or The Witcher 2 on my Hard Drive. I pointed it out to the Folder and it tells me it didn't find any games.

I downloaded those two a couple of days before the Client went Open Beta.

Are those two games just not compatible with the Client yet?
Blood II the chosen didn't work in windows 8.1 with Galaxy.

There compatible, make sure your importing them this way if scan fails to find them:

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Thanks! That did it.
Yeah, using the scan folders option doesn't find TW 1 or 2, but using the Manage -> Import folder worked, it just verified the files and the downloaded about 300 MB for each game.
BTW can anyone confirm that they were able to import a Witcher 3 preload?
