== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

ralphunreal: Just got an update, what did it do? Also how long has the overlay been in? I never noticed for some reason. What can you do in it so far?
The injected overlay was released to the preview channel back in October IIRC. As with the original overlay that was testable in The Witcher 3 and a small handful of games prior to that, you can view your achievements and game time, and chat with your friends. That's all there is currently.
avatar
amurgaming: The overlay only works officially on The Witcher 3 (make sure the appropriate Overlay-DLC is checked). The current preview update however makes it available to a whole bunch of other games as well. Haven't enabled the preview updates myself though and will keep waiting for 1.2 instead.

Not sure what the overlay does except showing pop up windows for unlocked achievements.
Your information is a bit outdated. :) That is for the original overlay which required individual games to support it directly. It was replaced with the new injected overlay which intends to support as many games as technically possible. At the present, hundreds of games in the GOG catalogue should work with the injected overlay however many will be buggy and people should submit bug reports if they encounter problems. For the most part any games that use DirectX 7 through 11 or which use OpenGL should have a working overlay modulo bugs. Older games will generally not work at all currently and may never work, however some DOSbox games can be made to work sometimes by changing the output renderer in the DOSbox configuration to OpenGL.

For the games that previously supported the overlay via DLC etc., you have to disable the old overlay DLC in order to use the new injected overlay.

Having said all of that, if the native resolution the game changes the monitor to is 1024x768 or less the overlay is very oversized with huge letters and has display scaling problems which make it fairly unusable for practical purposes. GOG may be able to improve that in the future to some degree but some games will likely never be able to use the overlay in a practical manner due to their age.

Modern retro-pixelated games that visually appear to have a low resolution may or may not have the same problem depending on whether they actually use a lower resolution or they use pixel scaling with a higher resolution. If they use the latter then the overlay will look as good (or bad) as it does with any other game at the given resolution. 1024x768 is the cutoff point though below which the overlay has responsive design and UI element scaling issues that look and work terrible.

One other problem I've personally encountered but not seen anyone else mention, is that the overlay looks a bit different if you have a monitor with a resolution greater than 1920x1200, however it is not visually problematic or buggy per se, it just doesn't anticipate the higher resolution and displays slightly differently without a border (reported in mantis). This affects me at 2560x1600 for example and I presume 4k monitors would be affected as well. Sadly, according to Steam hardware stats at least, less than a small fraction of a percent of gamers have such monitors so not a big priority for GOG to investigate at the moment. :)

Anyhow, hope this helps.

Update: Oh, one more thing... for old DOSbox games that are in a low resolution, if you also change the DOSbox configuration to do pixel scaling to a higher resolution, the overlay might become more usable and less pixelated. I don't remember if I tested that or not, but DOSbox has options like that so worth a try.

Thanks skeletonbow for clearing this up! So do you recommend activating preview updates? Any unwanted side-effects? I have been very hesitant with preview features until now.

Cyberbrickmaster: When I was downloading games through GOG Galaxy on my desktop computer, it would some times forget what games are already installed, which ends up with me downloading them again, thus consuming too much bandwidth. And then just recently, I discovered all the games I downloaded from GOG Galaxy have vanished from my folder! This may have something to do with my antivirus software confusing the files for malware, but this has left me frustrated and I don't know what I can do to work around this issue! Then again, it might be because the external hard drive I installed them on may be a bit faulty, but I don't have the money to buy a replacement at this time, as I'm saving for other things like my TAFE course as well as a console I already pre-ordered, which is coming late next week.
avatar
skeletonbow: I could be wrong about this as I haven't actually tested it specifically but if I understand correctly, when Galaxy starts up it looks for the goggame*.info files in the game installation directories and if they have vanished for any reason at all (deleted, directory moved outside of Galaxy's awareness, disk disconnected, etc.) then I believe Galaxy considers the game to no longer be present and removes it from the list. If you reconnect a removable drive with installed games on it then I believe you'd have to re-import the game every single time you remove the drive.

If that is indeed how it is working, then perhaps in the future they could just grey out installed games and put a label "files missing" or something on top of them, then autodetect when the files are back online again and ungrey them. Of course the way Galaxy works currently, it would pretty much require a client restart to redetect the games. Hopefully some day GOG devs will discover Windows filesystem notification functionality and take advantage of it though. :)
I think it's mainly due to my external hard drive, because it's one that plugs into an outlet and when I turn the computer on, it sometimes doesn't recognize it until I turn it off and then turn it back on again. At the time I couldn't find a 4TB external hard drive that didn't required its own power outlet and the place I bought it from is closed down now.

Galaxy preview updates are like a beta of the beta, or a release candidate for beta of the alpha depending on how you want to look at it. They contain bug fixes, occasionally new features or similar which GOG has gotten to the point where they would like the public to test it but are not yet ready to consider it stable and reliable enough to push it out to everyone through the primary beta channel. As such, the preview channel in theory may contain bugs or instability due to not having been tested widely enough yet which the beta does not.

In practice, the previews have generally been fairly stable and reliable and fairly comparable to the beta channel however there may be times where things get rocky. If someone is ok with experiencing additional instability from time to time without it being a problem for them or making them angry or similar then they may wish to brave it and try out the preview channel. If someone wants to avoid bugs/instability at all costs then they should probably avoid the preview channel.

On the up side, when the preview channel has notable instability GOG is likely to update it more often based on feedback to fix the issues as long as people report them in mantis. So ultimately whether one should use the preview or the beta depends on the amount of instability they may be willing to accept and commitment to filing bug reports to help GOG discover and resolve any issues that are present.

Hope this helps.
I have a request for GOG Galaxy development team.
Can you make it possible for us to put a desktop shortcut for each game by just clicking the game icons of Galaxy.
I like to have a set of game shortcuts for each installed game. It is possible to do this on steam.

Not a bad idea. See if it is filed in the Galaxy wishlist with the link at the bottom of the page. If not, feel free to add a wishlist entry and post it here in the forums for people to vote for it. GOG takes suggestions via the wishlist but understandably not directly from posts in the forums.
great I'm glad on what gog galaxy has become so far...
The problem is GOG Galaxy is nothing but a torrent program. I am uploading as well as downloading at max speeds with my connection as soon as GOG Galaxy starts. If I wanted a torrent program to download stuff I would use it. I want to be able to throttle my upload as well as my download instead of maxing my connection.

I would like to be able to see my installed games on the grid view library section similar to how you can currently on the left side of the client. If I am offline or have no internet connection right now then I can't see my installed library with the grid view that I prefer but can see the installed games on the left side however. Please consider this gog.

Galaxy downloads directly from GOG's CDN servers over http and does not use bittorrent, nor upload as you're describing. At the present moment you can pause all downloads if desired then resume them later when you'll not be using the computer for something else. Galaxy is not a full fledged client at this stage of development and probably wont have more advanced features like throttling downloads for quite some time, so if you need that functionality you're better off downloading using your web browser with a browser plugin that implements throttling for now if you can find one.

You can install the free open source Wireshark network monitoring software if you'd like to see the exact traffic Galaxy generates for more insight also.

Hope this helps.
What's the latest on patching via Galaxy? Is that still being slowly rolled out?

Not sure what you mean, but if you mean updating games or Galaxy itself, it has done that well for a long time now.
Why is it taking so long?

It's been what? 2 years? The client is still barebone and development extremely slow. c'mon!

Development takes time, that's a given. We (and I as a programmer) understand and recognize that. But by ignoring any communication about 1.2 they are essentially killing any enthusiasm and support one may have for Galaxy now and in the future.

I am someone who has always been a strong supporter of Galaxy but now I find my self being turned off by it simply because how it's being handled by GOG. Even bug fixes are coming less and less... and Galaxy is being left it a pretty rough shape and it's showing.

1.2 should be taken from the development branch and put on the preview branch right now as a weekly/ bi weekly update... let the community test damn thing and see the full fruit of the labor, so in turn we actually get a working tested released update. A lot of software devs give weekly/nightly in-development builds, there is zero reason GOG can't also do this and then the final result will be better for it as GOG can then get direct feedback DURING the feature development of Galaxy not AFTER it has already been completed by those fully willing to have a broken Galaxy installtion if needed.

This is getting ridiculous GOG... COMMUNICATE WITH THE COMMUNITY DAMN IT. I am personally rather fed up with this behavior, and I for one will no longer make excuses for it. Communication with end users is essential to producing good software and GOG has dropped the ball big time and continues to do so.
