== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

MarkoH01: Sorry to bother you again. But I just found out about something which I find quite amusing. We all know now that Galaxy is not officially supporting WinXP (which is old and dead and dangerous - yeah, I got it). But who can explain me what is written in the opening post?

"Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows Vista or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs "

Now I am laughing pretty loud, sorry guys, but Galaxy does not support XP but still stores its log in a specific folder? I don't think you have been thinking this through.

Destro: Would it be better if instead we artificially blocked people from launching it on XP (even though it's perfectly possible)? Or making it forbidden to report to us any bugs from XP machines would be better... because "principles"? ;)

We're openly saying that we don't support development of the Client with XP in mind, so that you are aware if even it works for you somehow (it only works in XP SP3 32bit and has some issues on Vista), it might stop working in a few updates. If you however insist on trying to launch it in on any of these platforms and succeed, then have fun with it and we're happy to hear your feedback as well.
I'm surprised by the Vista issues honestly, been using the client since December with one major issue/crash... overall I can't believe how stable it's been. xD

mvscot: Oh, I must have missed the magic time when all my old games that won't work on anything newer than XP suddenly did... :-)
What you missed is having the decency to read a post before replying to it.
As you might have noticed had you actually read the post in question, the person I was replying to made the CORRECT assertion that an OS is dead/alive based on marketshare, not arbitrary declarations.

his explicit argument is that its not dead in that people are still using it and that they will lose customers by not supporting it.
Except the statistics prove that very few people still use it (and shrinking).

As for a "magic time" when it stops working, there is nothing magic about it, old hardware breaks, new hardware does not have drivers for XP and as such doesn't work with it

I understand what you are saying and I appreciate the feedback. But even though I understand why you don't block those users even though you don't officially support XP I really still don't understand why you haven't blocked bug reports from XP users. Because what is the point? I have really invested some time to test Galaxy (did not even realize that it is Win7 and up only - that is why) and to reproduce the bug I sent to your team just to help you. I wrote quite a bit to tell them exactly what the problem is and given that English is not my native tongue this was not so easy. All I got the next day was "sorry, we don't support XP". I am quite sure that nobody has even tested if the problem also occurs on Win7. If bugs on XP does not interest you then why let the user type such a bug report which will be disregarded no matter what?

Client looks god, but it doesn't seem to be usable with my setup at present. I store my GOG games on a NAS drive to ensure that there's plenty of space. However, whenever I try a fresh install, or try and point a pre installed game towards an existing folder by the methods described in the FAQ, it scans the files and comes back with 'Installation Failed: Out of Disk Space'.

The actual games work fine through their shortcuts, just not through the Galaxy Client at the moment.

taltamir: 1. Galaxy absolutely needs to have an option to NOT run automatically on startup. Between steam, origin, desura, and impulse there are too many of them to let them all run all the time. I manually run steam when I want to play a steam game/update. I should manually be able to do that with galaxy
2. Galaxy should let you download an installer for backup.
3. Galaxy needs some debugging
avatar
odomi2: 1 You can on settings/General/ first option.
2 They said you can, but I haven´t seen it yet
Thank you, I gotta say that this
http://i.imgur.com/DYH804K.png
is a very odd and counter intuitive place to hide your (gogs, not you, I know are not a gog employee) settings at, especially when there is literally a second page ALSO called settings (under the username at the top right where its blacked out)

It also needs a settings button in the menu you get when right clicking the tray icon.

You might be correct with this (I simply trust you and your statistics here). And that is not really a miracle because Microsoft does not support it anymore and newer hardware does not support it anymore so new PCs don't have it anymore. That does not really mean that it is (or was if you prefer to say so) a bad system. Microsoft pushed it off the market to sell their newer systems. So obviously Microsoft declared XP dead and so it nearly is.

avatar
taltamir: As for a "magic time" when it stops working, there is nothing magic about it, old hardware breaks, new hardware does not have drivers for XP and as such doesn't work with it
Also correct but he states a reason why someone could still WANT to use XP even if he/she is the minority. So the system is not totally dead - maybe in statistics but not for real. One of the reason I still hold on to XP (another being the terrible exploerer and the search function of win7 as well as the bad scaling at least on my monitor) is that I still have hundreds of games which are hard to get to work even on XP but nearly impossible to get them to run on Win7. For me "dead" would be something in which there simply is no use anymore and I see it different here. To make it clear: I KNOW that I am a minority here but still I am far from being alone.

If you however insist on trying to launch it in on any of these platforms and succeed, then have fun with it and we're happy to hear your feedback as well.

MarkoH01: I understand what you are saying and I appreciate the feedback.

All this talk of XP, when is it coming to Linux? I want to complain about it not working as well! :D

MarkoH01: One of the reason I still hold on to XP [...] is that I still have hundreds of games which are hard to get to work even on XP but nearly impossible to get them to run on Win7. For me "dead" would be something in which there simply is no use anymore and I see it different here.
Indeed, that was my point. Not that I want to run the Galaxy client on XP, though (so long as I can reliably download the installers to another, supported system), and Galaxy is optional as far as enjoying GOG games is concerned, so long as I can still get my games onto this system over my LAN (I don't even use a web browser on the XP system, for obvious reasons).

Unlike, say, the Steam client, which is needed to even install many games, and although it still seems to work on XP , they keep breaking it for Athlons of that era by compiling it to use SSE2 instructions (which means I have no way to even get my Steam games onto that system...).

If I need to, I can even resurrect an even older system and run Windows 95 on it... (And I still have my 486SX for stubborn old DOS games, though DOSBox seems to handle most of what I throw at it.)
I have around 960 GOG games installed and added to the Galaxy client and it's not useable because of the poor performance I get. Upon starting Galaxy as it goes through loading all the icon files for the different games, Galaxy is frozen and unusable for about ten minutes with CPU usage at 40%. Only once the icons are all populated can I use it at all and then it's still laggy with 15% CPU usage and 800MB ram usage.

My pc is fairly powerful with an i5 3570k and 16gb ram. It doesn't seem like the program should run as poorly as it is. I have a similar number of games on Steam and it's much quicker.

I wonder if it's because of the dynamic nature of Galaxy, pulling the list of games and icons every time. I don't know. I could put a video on Youtube or something if that would be helpful.

This is on Win 7 64.

Greetings everybody,

I hadn't any problems installing GOG Galaxy, but as I try to start it, only the outside frame appears.

Do you have any ideas - or did I skip an entry with the solution?
