== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

p0k3m0n: You joking right? GOG sell even XP compatybile games, so their client MUST SUPPORT all system. NOW.
Since the cllient is not needed to play or install games, they don't have to support all systems. I mean they also have games that run on linux and I don't think there is a linux client yet.

p0k3m0n: You joking right? GOG sell even XP compatybile games, so their client MUST SUPPORT all system. NOW.
Actually no, I wasn't joking. Don't get upset with me about it, I'm merely sharing information with you to try to answer your question because I am aware of the answer. I am merely the messenger of information.

Again, merely for the purpose of sharing information - from the day Galaxy launched GOG stated clearly that the supported platforms were Windows 7 and newer. Windows XP and Vista were never supported. They stated that the program might run on those operating systems and that as long as it did they had no intention of removing any code that allowed that to happen in the immediate future, and that they would try to keep it that way as long as they could feasibly do so, but they never claimed that XP nor Vista were supported and in fact claimed the opposite - that they were not supported. They have never stated anywhere nor committed to supporting XP nor Vista with Galaxy.

If you own a game on GOG which claims to support XP or Vista then your game will still be supported on XP or Vista, but the support for that game does not and never has extended to the GOG Galaxy client which has it's own supported platforms. This is not a new thing, it has always been like this.

Here is the Galaxy page: https://www.gog.com/galaxy
"GOG Galaxy Client requires Windows 7 or newer. Also available for and soon for Linux. "

If you did not catch the official GOG announcement on this matter, here is a link to it for you however:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_galaxy_beta_2/post5028

Again, I am merely sharing information with you - do not shoot the messenger. When the messenger is shot, they no longer provide information in the future.

omega64: Not really considering the client is optional.
I guess that would make games that require Galaxy for multiplayer that would normally work on Vista fucked though.
Possibly, but that might actually work. The OS dependencies are largely in the client itself, so if the multiplayer works without the client running, the Galaxy DLL might be all that is needed. Not sure if that is distributed with the games or only with the client, but it would make sense that it be distributed with the game itself IMHO.

It's an interesting question though and I don't think I've seen anyone bring it up before so it would be nice to see an official GOG response on that particular situation. Of course it is only an actual theoretical issue that isn't necessarily an actual real issue unless there is a game in the catalogue that claims to support XP and/or Vista and also uses Galaxy multiplayer. If such a theoretical game does exist, I would imagine one of two possibilities:

1) Multiplayer works anyway with galaxy.dll without the client

or

2) GOG needs to update their store pages to clearly state that Windows 7 and newer are required for multiplayer functionality if that is indeed the case for said games, potentially issuing refunds or somesuch for customers who are negatively affected by the problem (again assuming there even is a problem)
Running Galaxy client 1.1.17 here at the moment and experiencing a consistent and very annoying bug all day every day since it came out, and I believe with 1.1.16 prior to that as well, possibly even earlier versions.

After anywhere from a half hour to a few hours after starting up Galaxy and leaving it sit there with a chat open with someone and switching away to use other apps for some time, Galaxy loses its systray icon which never comes back. Additionally, the program refuses to properly redraw its window when brought back into focus unless I force a window resize event to occur. Steps to reproduce:

- Open Galaxy client, open up chat and click on a friend in chat, message them.
- Switch away from Galaxy to your web browser and use it for a couple hours, possibly switching back and forth to Galaxy to continue your chat.

Result: After 30m to a few hours, the systray icon vanishes entirely, client starts displaying broken rectangles of non-refreshed content in the UI which only goes away when forcing a redraw by moving the window around or minimize+maximize or similar. The only way to restore full proper behaviour is to exit the client and restart it.

Normally I would file a bug report etc. but I'm not going to do that unless I get at least 3 or 4 other "beta testers" to confirm they experience the same problem also. With there being several hundred thousand or several million Galaxy users out there i figure that shouldn't be hard to do, and if I'm the only one out there experiencing the issue then I suppose it isn't a GOG problem to have to worry about.

That being said, who else is seeing this?

Considering I've had this issue for months I'd say yes, I'm experiencing this.

Ok, we're two strong! Now if we could get say, 10 out of the other 1-2 million Galaxy testers out there to speak up we'll have a movement! :oP

I actually reported it a while back on Mantis. I seem to remember someone telling me it should be fixed in the next update, but it's still there.

I reported similar problems that occur after exiting a game that's been running for a while. They could all have the same root cause, hard to say. Like you though, the problems are still present and in fact they're even worse now as it happens every 30-60m or so all day every day rather than a once in a blue moon type situation.

I would test this, but I have no one to chat with on Galaxy and no time to spend at my computer these days. :( Maybe some time in the next few weeks I can play the games I just bought. >.>

apparition: I would test this, but I have no one to chat with on Galaxy and no time to spend at my computer these days. :( Maybe some time in the next few weeks I can play the games I just bought. >.>
Just bringing the chat screen up and leaving it sit there is enough. No need to actually chat with someone, although that may cause the display to shuffle around a bit as rectangles appear when it scrolls.
avatar
MangAnimE: Not a big problem. Just had Galaxy update to 1.1.17 & now some of the version numbers for games are showing up as 6-7 digit long number instead of version number.
avatar
skeletonbow: Yep, that happens with a tonne of games. I think I asked about it before and was told it was a date code or something. Problem is that none of the numbers I am seeing appear as any kind of date code under any possible interpretation of a date code, they appear as just purely random numbers.

Personally I think it is just a bug either in Galaxy or the design of what is being displayed. It only makes sense to display things to customers that have value to the customer and the customer understands or can easily deduce and derive value from. A random 8-9 digit number is pretty useless all around even if it was a date code using a global standard format such as ISO8601 if there's no useful meaning as to what it is indicating. :)

I've assumed all along that it intends to display a version number but if nobody got around to figuring out what version a given game is yet perhaps they left the field blank, and an uninitialized variable in the web back end is left with random data that gets displayed. If that's the case, initializing all data to 0 and not displaying anything if the value is 0 would probably be the way to go. Just speculating though, as it always looks quite odd and I doubt anyone finds the random number that shows up useful for anything. :)
I'm sure that the games that are showing this for me (at time of posting) were showing version numbers before. As you say tho' pointless to display a number code that means nothing to the end user, better to just leave it blank.

I've been experiencing a very similar thing: sometimes, when I receive a message and I'm away, the Galaxy icon will keep flashing for an indeterminate amount of time (as intended); when I go back to it, the window will be totally blank and white (forcing me to restart it). I've never tried to minimise / maximise it to see if it would fix itself, though.

Yep, that sounds like the same problem. Incoming chat messages seem to trigger it, but I don't think it is actually related to chat. From observing it over a few weeks now I am convinced that when Galaxy thinks it is idle it puts itself to sleep so to speak and then when it should get a wakeup signal or whatever it doesn't fully wake its UI back up and refresh the screen. I base this speculation on the Galaxy version 1.1.13 changes that were allegedly made to reduce the amount of CPU resources Galaxy uses while games are running, and comments made by a Galaxy dev somewhere in the thread here where they mentioned that after a game is launched after about 30 seconds or so Galaxy detects it is not in focus and reduces resource usage or words to that effect. I don't recall if they said exactly what that meant, but it would make sense to disable updating the user interface, turn off any code doing animations and other things that burn CPU, and leave it off until it is needed again. But it seems after exiting some games it never wakes itself up again, and it also seems that it may kick in it's "idle" mode so to speak by merely being out of focus for a while, and then not wake back up fully. Incoming chats seem to trigger it if Galaxy hasn't been the focused window for a while.

When you manually focus the window, the only portions of the window drawn are things being updated currently, such as incoming text on a chat will display just the rectangle where the text is, but the entire window is never redrawn.

Bit of speculation on my part as to the underlying problem, but the high level visible problem is simply that the window does not get redrawn properly after the app is idle for a while, whether it is due to being backgrounded or due to a game being played in the foreground/fullscreen for a while.

I've already filed bug reports with log files attached though, so it's basically a waiting game for 1.1.18 I suppose. Hopefully they also reproduce it on their end and are working on it. :)
Oh, I remember what I wanted to ask - are there any plans for Galaxy pop-up notifications? Akin to Steam, a small pop-up informing the user when they get a chat message, a forum reply or when one of their friends logs in or starts playing something. All of this optional, if possible.

Yes, that is part of the overlay, currently only available in a small number of specific games which it needs to be manually enabled first (ie: Witcher 3), however it will become available for a much larger number of games in a future release of Galaxy as they've mentioned in the past. There are screenshots of the notifications in the mantis bug tracker, and I think someone posted one here in the thread previously regarding a bug of it looking ugly or something (BKGaming perhaps?), I don't have a link handy though. There is no word on when however, but it's coming some time down the line. They did mention they are working on the next major release and I think they said it would be 1.2 but I am not certain. Hopefully that functionality will be present when it does come out though. Hopefully they have screenshots working too. :)
