== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Taro94: Oh, I remember what I wanted to ask - are there any plans for Galaxy pop-up notifications? Akin to Steam, a small pop-up informing the user when they get a chat message, a forum reply or when one of their friends logs in or starts playing something. All of this optional, if possible.
avatar
skeletonbow: Yes, that is part of the overlay, currently only available in a small number of specific games which it needs to be manually enabled first (ie: Witcher 3), however it will become available for a much larger number of games in a future release of Galaxy as they've mentioned in the past. There are screenshots of the notifications in the mantis bug tracker, and I think someone posted one here in the thread previously regarding a bug of it looking ugly or something (BKGaming perhaps?), I don't have a link handy though. There is no word on when however, but it's coming some time down the line. They did mention they are working on the next major release and I think they said it would be 1.2 but I am not certain. Hopefully that functionality will be present when it does come out though. Hopefully they have screenshots working too. :)
Oh, but I meant notifications outside of games, like when you're browsing the web.
And yes, can't wait for screenshot functionality either. :P

Not sure, but I imagine the notification system is all tied together in that respect.
My playing time is like 1 minute every 10 minutes. It's been like that since forever probably with all the games
Can't install the latest version on Win7. Tells me "mfc140u.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing again using original install media or contact sys admin or software vendor for support."

When I run in compatibility mode for Win7 and run as admin it pops up a window that I didn't get before saying I need to update my Windows OS to SP1. I already have SP1.

Please try downloading the Visual C++ 2015 runtimes (32-bit and 64-bit) from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145 and restart your PC and see if that helps with the MFC140u.dll error.

Restarting your PC is required because of the runtimes being installed, btw :)

Just a suggestion to throw out there... it seems that the error message telling people to upgrade to W7 SP1 is incorrect and confusing, and it might be a better idea for GOG to change the message to the advice you just provided which is more accurate as it seems a lot of people encounter this problem and are confused and befuddled if they already have SP1 installed. :)

It could even just be a shorter message with a URL that opens in their web browser linking to a longer explanation on a support page where they can self-service hopefully toward a successful result. Might save both them some frustration, and reduce GOG support overhead a bit. :)

This of course presumes that the actual error people are seeing is produced by GOG authored code, which is my assumption. :)

Hi, unlucky Windows Vista user here. Can anyone post a link to last version that worked on that system? Is it possible to disable automatic updates (so Galaxy won't update itself to Vista incompatible version)?

Not sure if GOG keeps the old versions around on their servers or not. You can look at the changelog to determine the version that dropped Vista support (1.1.16 IIRC) and you'd need the one before that. In theory you could copy the link to the current exe from the galaxy page, then modify the version number to the older version to test if it is on the server. The problem with that though, is while the client only displays the version a.b.c in the title bar, the real version is a.b.c.d and that is included in the filename. Unless you can figure out what "d" is, you wouldn't be able to guess the actual filename to download. It may or may not be available in either case though, so you might be out of luck.

You could also try the Wayback Machine though.

We keep a few versions :) The "d" number is always logged - some digging around through your old GalaxyClient.log files can help.

Yeah, if you still have them. :) I imagine most people would still have them though and might not even know where the directory is though. ( C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\logs for those who need to check) I blow my logs away regularly so that when I attach logs to bug reports for you guys you don't get terabyte sized zip files. hehehe

Having said that, someone could go dig up old bugs out of mantis if need be from the timeframe prior to a new Galaxy release and swipe someone else's logs to get the client version too. :)
My client starts up every night by itself. Is there a way to prevent this? I am guessing it might have something to do with the daily router disconnect that we still have here in Germany.

I found 1.1.16.20 (not on GOG), but it's already incompatible with Vista and I can't find any 1.1.15.x on GOG. I managed to find 1.1.14.5 using Wayback Machine, I guess that's better than nothing :D (because this version works :D). In case of logs - well, Galaxy uninstaller wiped them, so I'm out of luck here :D. Thanks for help, now question is how to prevent Galaxy from updating itself?

There is a commandline switch for GalaxyClient to tell it to not auto-update however I have no idea what it is. GOG has decided to keep all of the commandline switches for the program a deep dark undocumented mystery like the Cadbury secret however so you can't get a usage screen by using /h /help /? --help -? or similar. Someone posted it several pages back in the thread at some point in time though if I'm not mistaken.

I ran GNU "strings" over the binary looking for anything looking like commandline options and found a bunch however most of them don't appear to do anything. The only ones that I can confirm work are /gameId /command=<command> and /path= (used for registering externally installed games with the GalaxyClient.

Not a big deal though, 5 years from now I'm sure someone will have figured them all out running it in a debugger or something. :)

Here is the post @skeletonbow was just talking about (linking to it doesn't really work so I'll quote it, instead):

mike_cesara: Make a shortcut or run galaxy from the command line:

"%PROGRAMFILES%\GalaxyClient\GalaxyClient.exe" /runWithoutUpdating
(Sorry for the notification!)
You can always delete the updater executable so Galaxy can not spawn it to update.
