Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:

You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Sure, and if those people use Steam, they probably choose the "grid" view which is the closest to the GOG library shelf only it fills the screen making better use of the size of a person's monitor and lets you scale the size of the icons to your own preference either having bigger icons that are easier to see further away but less of them on screen at a time, or fit more on screen that are smaller favouring seeing more at a time.

Just because different people have a preference for a particular way of displaying the library does not mean there must only be one single way of displaying the library and that everyone must use it. There's no particularly good reason why there can't be multiple views and everyone can choose the one that they prefer the most for their own reasons and have additional configuration options to customize that, such as the ability to scale icons on Steam's grid view for example, or the ability to add additional fields visible on the "list" view.

Anyone who might be thinking it has to be the way it is right now and can't be changed because some people like it that way are in the wrong way of thinking, because it can be kept the way it is now even by default if desired, and add additional views that one can choose to configure it to use instead without disturbing or removing what is there currently, thus allowing people who like it the way it is to keep using it that way, and people who don't like it the way it is to have other options.

Ultimately, the more flexible they make the library view - the more people out there will want to use the program and it is their stated goal that they want to make Galaxy so awesome that people WANT to use it even though it's optional. One way of making that happen is to make it very configurable within reason so that more people can customize it to how they'd like it to be. I know some people for example who wont use Galaxy solely because they hate the way the library works and don't want to go to different pages.

Another thing that they could do which would win a lot of people into using or considering to use Galaxy who do not already, would be adding another view - "manual" which lets people organize their game shelf by hand as it once was before. I didn't use that personally and don't know if I would but if you look through various forum threads there are dozens of people that were upset that got removed and would likely be very happy to see it return in some form in the future.

A flexible application that respects the fact that different people have different needs and preferences and gives them the opportunity to customize it to their own desires is an application that gets more users. This is true even in video games. Look at some of the most popular games out there like Skyrim for example. Why is it so popular? Many reasons but one of them is that it is highly moddable. People love to mod things, to customize, to change the way things look or function if they don't like the defaults the developer had in mind, or if they just want to experiment etc. Embracing modding and customization would be something that would greatly fire up a lot of gamers IMHO, and if done right could make Galaxy much more configurable and customizeable than any other gaming client. It could be a big value-add differentiator, and I think it would fit into a GOG like mindset overall in that regard anyway.

Not sure if any of this could or would be considered a priority currently or not mind you as there are many other important things that need to happen also and which they're working on some of at the moment. Eventually though I'd like to see these sort of changes occur. If they ever do open up the Galaxy API so other clients could be made as they said they would a few years ago - I'm sure there would be a number of cool clients spring up that offer a different spin on what can be done too, and that'd be really cool to see happen. :)

I agree. The default view on Steam is the detail view I believe and your correct that there can be more than one view. I however believe GOG needs to find better display method over separating this with an unneeded library view. A grid view would be fine if they implement is as a selectable default view, not a separate embedded web page that is just pulling from the site.

I think the best way of going about it would be to re-implement the detail view (as GOG already showed that they had plans to do so). That code is probably still there and usable. Then from there they can add new views like grid, list, etc.

I also wonder why we still have the default menu (aka Store and Library). A long time ago they released an update where the menu was changed (but they didn't mean to release it yet), so they removed it in a follow up update. It would make so much more sense to have a menu with Store, Library, Community, & Support. Etc. I also don't know why there is drop down Galaxy link under Store. We are using Galaxy are we not?

There is no reason to reinvent the wheel as they say... Steam has already proven it's a good design concept.

I think that boat sailed a long time ago with GOG taking over a year to get to 1.2 (which is still not out). They have already lost the impatient people they might have gotten with the Witcher 3. Best course of action now is get Galaxy is a very very good shape before Cyberpunk releases.

I even feel myself becoming more and more impatient, especially when I can open Steam and see everything Galaxy can not do. I just have to remind myself Steam has had a long time to get there and DRM free games is worth it.

I even dipped my toes back into the Steam ecosystem not to long ago, which a year ago I would not even considered. 1.1.13 was a good step in the right direction though.

What really confuses me is if you look closely on the Galaxy screens on the Galaxy page, the stuff that is being implemented now is already being shown there over a year ago. Has it been done this whole time or was these simply mock ups that GOG is sticking very close too? They probably are just mock ups, but if not why the wait?

(imho) I don't think GOG has someone that's capable of looking at the "long view". We saw that lack of planning again with not having many devs lined-up for the launch of GOG Connect and then the minimal communication afterwards, leading to customer confusion and outrage.

I have to agree. GOG has great ideas, but often these ideas are poorly executed. I don't know if it poor management or not being able to hire the help needed for this project. Whatever the case, Galaxy should be further along that what it currently is. GOG's competition, which is not limited to Steam, is improving their software at a far faster and better rate than what GOG can currently manage. Even the Xbox app (which is basically a client) was in a better shape than Galaxy with a lot more features and it launched after Galaxy. Granted MS has the resources to throw behind it as well so I have to give them that.

What really get's me though, is some of the changes that Galaxy could benefit from are very simple. We shouldn't even be talking about them... any developer on the Galaxy team should have been able to implement them within a few days or a week at most. But here we are a over a year later and where still left wonder just where GOG is headed with Galaxy. God knows they won't tell us.

I'm not asking for time frames or exact dates... but I am asking for more information and more communication about the things we want to see in Galaxy. I've said it time and time again use the preview updates feature for all updates. Why are users getting updates on release only? Why are users not getting weekly experimental builds? This is why Galaxy is partly has so many issues, it's getting little to no testing on a mass scale before updates are pushed out. That and because mantis has become a giant mess that GOG can't keep up with.

What it feels like is GOG wants to keep everything to themselves until release so it's a big PR spin when a huge update releases aka 1.1 and hopefully 1.2 soon enough. Instead they need to get good solid features out the door as quickly and as bug free as possible. Not the huge 6+ months updates.

Not singling out any one dev though, just the overall direction GOG seems to be on. Individually the Galaxy devs seem to be doing a good job.

I think they've captured a lot of people with Galaxy even with its flaws that they likely found it worthwhile overall to release when they did even with the various pros and cons. I agree that Cyberpunk 2077 will be the next big milestone point to draw in people also unless something else comes along by surprise in the mean time.

I dunno if I'm impatient per se, but it does feel a bit grueling at times waiting so long for big new features and bug fixes. :) For me it's more being (perhaps sometimes violently) enthusiastic about what Galaxy can and hopefully will become rather than being upset about what it's not. :) Indeed though, Steam had about a decade and a half of development put into it at this point. I've no idea how long from the time Steam development started until it was released publicly with Half-life 2, but it took a few years after that to become a real "client" and have true usefulness. I'm not sure when it first truly became useful as I stopped using it not long after I stopped playing Half-life 2, and that was long before other games were for sale on Steam, then never used it again until 2012. :) At some point along the way it became useful though according to friends. :)

Galaxy is already more capable than Steam was when I originally used it, so that's a good sign but I hope when 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 etc. (or however they number them) come out that they drop some big features and hopefully with some wow factor. :)

Usual case is the antivirus blocking a file or two during download and/or moving, thus Galaxy cannot find the file it knows it should have downloaded, thus the "Disc Access Problem". Try to whitelist the folders Galaxy uses and see if that fixes your issue.
Hm, I keep getting server problem when a file have finished downloading and it gets deleted when that message has popped up. It doesent matter what game or file I download.

The problem as I see it, even when they do put in some big features many are going to look at them and say "About time they added that". So I'm not sure how much of a wow factor they'll get.

fisk0: Anyone else getting "installation failed: Disc Access Problem" in the latest version of GOG Galaxy? I haven't had the issue before, other programs can access the partition without problems and I have a lot of free space left on there. I first had the error happen with Obduction, and thought it could be because there's a ® sign in the game's title and that the game was trying to create a folder with that in it or something, but then I got the same error with Star Ruler 2. I've restarted the client in administrator mode in case it somehow lost disc write privileges or something, but that didn't help.
I've been getting the same error, even with my antivirus and such off. I reported the bug, so hopefully it gets fixed soon!

edit: When I try to install certain games (like Arcanum), I find the following error in my log:

2016-08-26 14:40:20 [Error][SubSystem installer thread (3)]: Error occurred while installing game 1207658829: Error Message: Chunks must be added in order - chunk offset must follow previous.

It is. However one needs to remember Galaxy is not competing against the Steam of old... Galaxy is competing against Steam of today. That's all that will matter to any potential Galaxy users.
