== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page

Changelog 1.1.15 (September 7th, 2016):

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

I'm been having some issues when trying to download a specific game: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. When I try to download a backup copy of the game through the Galaxy client, it would start, but then immediately fail.

Interestingly, in the 'temp' download folder, this specific game's file is created inside a "star_wars_republic_commando_copy3" folder. Could it be mislabeled on the system?

*EDIT* Since my initial post I've experienced the same thing with Commandos 2 & 3, and Hitman 3. My other 6 or so downloads have worked without a hitch. In all instances I've download/tried to download the backup copy.

Oh, I'm sorry, my bad, it seems there are only three games installed which should have achievements, Witcher 2, Witcher 3, and PoE. Pillar just had an update, so maybe it will work, but probably I have to start a new game, yet again...

Oddly enough, I downloaded the game manually just last night and noticed the same peculiarity! And the expansion set is labelled "Jedi Knight II" as if it was the base game!

Destro: During patching process, Galaxy downloads only files that changed in the update (comparing local and online repository). To that end, if game is build in a way that all the resources are stored in a one big 10GB container file and a small resource of this container will be changed, the entire file is changed and thus will be re-downloaded by the Client. On the other hand, if game is built smartly without such juggernaut containers, Galaxy will be very effective during the auto updating.

Standalone installers that you speak of indeed are built with some heavy compression so that in some cases they might be smaller than update but this is not really a proper answer to the issue above - rather, delta patching is, so that the Client can operate (perform comparisions and updates) on chunks of the file, no matter their size.

Both of these features (compression AND delta patching) are planned for the Client and being worked on.
It should be pointed out that "juggernaut" containers exist for a reason, and that is because the majority of users are still using mechanical storage. These single file containers are filesystems on a file like containers, highly optimized for sequential access. That is one of the reasons you won't see many improvement by going from an HDD an SSD in loading times, sequential read access for mechanical files isn't that different from HDDs to SSDs. Windows and operating systems on the other hand benefit from SSDs because they use a lot of small files, which means random read access an area where SSDs vastly outperform HDD's.

File level patching using a file system directory difference indeed works, and specially in the case of lots of small files.
But as is notably common most games do not ship with this kind of configuration. Which lead to the large downloads as noted by several users.

Delta patching, as is abundantly evident by GOG's own offline patchers, is the obvious solution to this issue, they pack all the changes in very small file albeit with a cpu usage penalty.
What is strange is that GOG choose to not use their own patchers and opted by a mechanism that was flawed from the start.

The sad part is that at the moment the offline patches don't play nice with Galaxy and don't update the Galaxy game version..

GOG didn't opt for a mechanism that is flawed from the start. They chose a superior mechanism that the entire industry uses and is accepted as superior for the last few decades as their solution - they just have not implemented and deployed it to us yet because it is a work in progress. The existing mechanism present in Galaxy is nothing more than a temporary hack solution until they can implement the proper update mechanism they've stated they intend to provide.

The old patch mechanism is better in many ways than the current stopgap not because GOG has chosen a poor solution, but because it is a stopgap right now not any real solution. That's not an argument to go back to how it was, it is an argument for everyone to either wait until GOG delivers their _actual_ solution before judging it, or to not use Galaxy at all until it is actually a finalized released product.

Proper delta updates with pre-compression or on the fly compression are vastly superior to any other mechanism for providing updates generally speaking. That is why most modern software services use this method of providing updates. We just have to be patient until GOG finishes developing this feature and deploys it to us. The end result when all is said and done in N months or however long it takes them, and after any kinks are ironed out during the ongoing beta period - are that game updating will end up being a vastly improved experience that consumes the least network bandwidth and disk space on the consumer side of things. Until then, everything we have is a temporary stop-gap and that is just fine for a developmental product not yet officially released.
Issue with Bastion time not updating when playing. Checked another game and it worked fine. Reported Issue here!

Since each update isn't in it's own thread, how about adding a date to the 1st line of each update that's posted in the forum. As in:

09/27/15 GOG Galaxy 1.1.3 (both Windows and Mac):
- Bugfix: Fixed store and library pages being unnecessary reloaded
- Bugfix: Fixed Server Error message when initializing download of some games on low speed connection
- Bugfix: Fixed crashing that was preventing some users from launching the client
- Bugfix: Various fixes for achievements
