== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

devslo: Are time tracking features working yet? I'm playing a few old games, but all of them show 0min of play time?
Most of time works. As far as I know playing time is stored on server side, give Galaxy few minutes and it should update. If not, you may report it here.

Fallen_Zen: Please remember that for the Mac around 50% of the games downloaded from the browser are compatible with the Galaxy, we're in the Beta after all. That's why you're getting the "Did not find any games to import" when scanning for games. I know this is not the perfect scenario but it's not an easy task to make everything compatible on day one.

We're working hard on this one, believe me!

Please install the games from the Galaxy for the time being.
In fairness, how can we be expected to remember something we never knew. This is the first time and place I have read that around 50% of the Mac games are not compatible with Galaxy yet.

I have said this before to other users but now I will say it directly to you and by extension the development team and management: this is NOT a beta. This is NOT beta software.

This is alpha. This application is not even feature complete. The feature complete app has not been internally tested. This is impossible because it is not done yet.

Beta software is software that is feature complete and internally tested. Then in order to further clean up any issues missed in internal testing a beta version is built and distributed to cast a much wider net to find missed bugs by deploying it to end users on a much wider variety of configurations and with many more users exercising the app and hopefully fleshing out any serious bugs remaining.

In all my years as a software engineer this is how it has always worked. I don't know what sort of engineering best practices you folks are going with but as evidenced by all the problems reported in this 80 page thread this sure is one terrible beta if you insist on misusing the term.

This is highly unfortunate because it tends to give end users the wrong idea and lead them to have the illusion that this software is going to be considerably more functional and stable than it is as an alpha build which again, is exactly what Galaxy currently is.

This never should have been released to end users in its current state as an open beta particularly when that meant a lot of web site changes at the same time to support this early version of Galaxy.

Don't get me wrong. In a sense, I feel for you guys because you get caught holding the bag for what is probably a misguided management decision.

In my own case this morning, I cannot even access GOG anymore with Galaxy. I have entered the problem in detail in mantis. The app here has a real showstopper that never should have made it to beta and I can reproduce it at will.

This is the kind of stuff that upsets customers and hurts you guys more than any draw from the Witcher 3 might have helped you. I am guessing that was behind the rush to release this before it was anywhere near ready.

I wouldn't even consider buying a game from GOG now despite the many times I have in the past. I won't buy anything here again until I see this mess entirely fixed and I do mean entirely. Your customers deserve better than this.

Assuming you have the old site backed up management really ought to pull this and put that back and you finish it, test it and then run a private beta at length iteratively fixing what you find in that process. Then release it to all the customers but not before. This is what should have happened in the first place.

I know. It ain't gonna happen. That doesn't change what I think of this project.

I really hope that you will share this with management. I really do. I don't expect everyone to agree with me and that's fine but I think what i say here is valid based on both my professional years of experience in software development and more importantly my perception of GOG as a customer who wishes he could shop here without the upheaval and hassle.

Folks, please don't tell me you could do this or you could do that. I know what I could or could not do. That is not the problem. At this point, the issue for me personally is trust. I don't trust anything coded here to be entirely stable based on what I have seen and am seeing. So how comfortable can I be spending any more money even though I want to buy DRM-free games?

I don't hate GOG or anything. I want them to just get their shit together and stop screwing up to this level of magnitude.

I guess GOG knows that. What else could have been the reason to remove the banners and buttons on their store front encouraging users to try Galaxy? With exception of the forum, there are still a few mention of Galaxy in the support area and the page www.gog.com/galaxy is also still up, but customers won't get directed towards it.

EDIT:

Scratch that. GOG does not know or does not want to admit it. I just forgot that i used an CSS modification which suppresses the Galaxy client advertisement banner and button. Disabled the CSS modification, and - voila - Galaxy advertisement is back in all its purple glory. Whether GOG calls the Galaxy client Beta or Alpha doesn't really matter. What they did and still do is a roll-out of software to their customers. And with that naturally come user expectations and user experiences which again inform the users perception of the GOG brand. I hope GOG understands the importance of brand perception...

The only thing they removed was the homepage banner, which I'd imagine was to better use that space for the sales... the banner is still above your games via account and the big blue button to "Try Galaxy" is still there.

Overall I agree it came out of alpha too soon, but granted it's overall not that bad... I've used worse released software that was less stable.

In a way I'm flattered that a GoG staffer took the time to reply to my message, but even so, I'm astonished that the reply was written without even understanding what I wrote. The very last line of the reply was:

"Please install the games from the Galaxy for the time being."

Since the games do not appear in my Galaxy client, as I clearly stated, I cannot possibly install them with Galaxy. At all. In any way. How can a GoG staffer tell me to do the impossible and not realize how incompetent that sounds?

I fully concur with dirtyharry50. This should only have been released once it was at least at feature parity with the browser interface. I'm not asking for any bells and whistles at all. I only wanted, and was led to believe, that the Galaxy client was, at minimum, no less functional than the browser interface.

In fact, it is grossly inferior. So much so that it is a stain on the reputation of GoG.

I think Fallen probably took it as you only tried importing the standalone installer installation (which not all standalone installers are Galaxy supported yet), as you spent half your post explaining you did it that way... all your games should show up under library though in Galaxy, and if not supported have a message that says there not supported yet. Or least this is how it works on Windows, perhaps they have not made it this way for MAC users yet?

Out of 90+ Windows games all mine are supported, but it took a while to get here, so I imagine it's just an issue of they have not had the time to make all the Mac versions compatible yet. This has nothing to do with Galaxy itself, each game has to be made compatible which is a slow process.

It's really not a huge deal though... It honestly doesn't make the MAC version of Galaxy broken or useless by any means, unless there is something other than non supported games your having issues with.

Isn't the "import" function supposed to work with unsupported games as at least a launcher?

Three of my favorite games are not supported and I'd love to launch them via Galaxy even with no features.

It'd give me a chance to clean up my Start menu some more :P

Nope. It's supposed to import supported games that were installed with the old installers that are not Galaxy supported. Nothing more.

There is a workaround if you really need this.
It took some time, but I finally imported all of my games into Galaxy. Some observations:

1) When you have a large number of games (I have 412 installed), the list of games take a very long time to load.
2) More sorting options in the list would be nice. Grouping by category would be nice as well.
3) If something goes wrong, the ability to see an error report would be nice rather than "X game has failed to instal/update."

Of all the games I have, I've run into issues with only four games:

1) King's Quest 8 - game fails to update. Checking my temp folder, it looks like some of the files are downloading, but it never completes.
2) Xenonauts - Infinite "Getting file list" status. Will eventually fail
3) Ys I - Constant "spinning" icon instead of the game graphic in the Installed Games list.
4) Ys II - Same issue as Ys I. Updating the games succeeds, but the pictures never show up.

I've looked at the log files and for King's Quest 8 and Xenonauts the connection to the GOG servers seems to be timing out:

Excerpt (Xenonauts "Verify/Repair" attempt):
2015-06-09 19:59:33:010 [galaxy_client][Warning]: SyncRequest: timeout 20s exceeded (remaining attempts 99) while fetching http://wpc.11df.deltacdn.net:80/0011DF/content-system/v1/manifests/1207664803/windows/36765396/a5f64405-f334-4fda-bc45-c05f268f21c6.json. The game is installed and playable, but the Galaxy client will auto-attempt an update every so often. Same with KQ8.

About the only thing I haven't tried is a complete re-install of the games, but these are fresh installs using the most recent installers (three of the four games were purchased during the Summer Sale). KQ8 I had purchased before all the installers were separated, but I did download the standalone installers for all of my split collections. I've currently turned off auto updating for KQ8 and Xenonauts for now.

Sometimes this fixes if you click on the game and wait for its page to fully load (the icon seems to load at the same time as the background image on the game's page). But it doesn't fix all the time, so if that doesn't work for you, hey, same here.
How can issue #1984 (reported May 6th) be duplicate of issue #2822 (reported May 22nd)? Back to the future?
Seriously, what the fuck GOG?
