Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

I would not say Galaxy isn't for you or older people at all. I think it is going to be very nice in time when it is actually finished and fully tested. If Witcher 3 requires Galaxy for updates, that was a big mistake by management. It isn't right to do that for an expensive paid product and have it depend on what they are calling beta software but which in reality by definition is alpha software (Galaxy is not even feature complete). If it couldn't be done in time, they should not have launched with a dependency on it. That's just wrong in my opinion. Actually, it's just plain wrong period.

By the way, I'm just a 56 year old kid so what do I know but I think Galaxy is going to be good in time for folks of all ages. ;-)

skeletonbow: The patches for The Witcher 3 do not require Galaxy at all, nor does the game itself. The game, it's patches and all of its bonus extras are available for download directly from the website via the web browser, or via GOG Downloader, or through GOG Galaxy all as standalone files just as every other game in the catalog. In addition to that The Witcher 3 can receive automatic updates via Galaxy if Galaxy is installed and being used, and auto-updates are enabled for the game which is the default on Galaxy.

I just woke up an hour ago to find out the 1.04 patch is out for The Witcher 3, and I go in Galaxy to see if I need to download it and... Galaxy had already updated the game for me while I was sleeping so it's ready to play. I like that, I really like that. But for those that don't like that, it can be disabled too, and either way it is configured the patches ARE available on the website and through GOG Downloader and Galaxy. So there's no reason to speculate about GOG management making a "big mistake" since it is completely an untrue premise to begin with.

To make it rock solid clear: The Witcher 3 has absolutely zero dependency on Galaxy whatsoever.
I was not speculating about anything. I said, IF that was true and I put it that way because I don't own the game and expected someone to clarify if it wasn't as you just did. Thanks for that info by the way.

This does return to the issue of GOG failing to make crystal clear that Galaxy is for testers, people who want to test the bleeding edge, etc. It should not be counted upon for regular use. The other options you outline which are available as has traditionally been the case would be preferable for those not wanting to test client software in development.

I know they put this out as a supposed beta but people in numbers clearly are not understanding that this is not a finished, reliable product which should only be used by those wanting to see it, contribute to testing it, etc. and not rely on it like it is a finished release. As far as I am concerned management has failed there when I see so many people posting here as if they believe this thing is completely ready for prime time and they are not expecting to have any problems with it. These same people become upset when this alpha client fails them in any way or lacks implemented features they expect to see, etc. That wouldn't be happening so often if there was a crystal clear and detailed disclaimer about what to expect where the download link is located and better still, make it required reading before allowing the download to commence to the extent possible, in other words, at least make the user scroll to the bottom of the info and then if they ignore it, that's their problem.

And to further clarify things for users, that same disclaimer should point out that traditional means of acquiring games, updating them, etc. should be used by those not wishing to test Galaxy. This assumes those traditional means are all still working across the board. I haven't bought anything recently to know first hand. I've just installed stuff I already had with Galaxy here and in my own case with the Mac client I didn't have any issues doing that much.

Is it possible to include some kind of time tracking reset ?

It happen that for some game, specially RPG, that i play few hours and then restart because my character building (or party building or anything else depending of the game) don't suit me well. But then the time track is not good because it's the time of the new session and the time of the cancelled session.
Can you tell us when we may see a new update please? I'd really like to see a bit more interaction between the community and Galaxy devs honestly.

Blackguards for example had installers with a combined size of around 4.3 GB but an installed size of around 18 GB. At least that's how it was at the time of writing the ticket. At the moment it is around 5.5 GB for the installers and 18.4 GB for installed. But GOG did promise to implement compression later down the road.

Concerning your questions:

I have no idea why GOG chose to download to a temp directory first. I can imagine some reasons but to know the real reason why they did it you would have to ask someone of the Galaxy programming staff.
Maybe that is exactly the reason: they might always have planned to download the files compressed into a temp dir and then extract them to the install dir. At the moment they only download to temp and just move (and rename) them to the install dir but I could imagine that this will change the wy I described it before.

Given the fact that GOG always offered icompressed files due to their use of an installer they must always have thought about using compressed files in the future of Galaxy - otherwise nobody would want to use it since they always said that they will not abandon the old (installer packages) way completely. Steam never offered installer packages so they never had the problem because the customer only gets one size of a game to know and that is the installed size.

I would imagine they download to a temp directory first so that if something was to go wrong with the download (ie Galaxy fails, or the download corrupts) it's not effecting your actual installed game until a successful completion of the download. But that is of course just a best guess.
Support for hardware back/forward buttons would be nice, feels very awkward to use the program without them.

skeletonbow: Achievements are available right now already. The Witcher 2 and 3 are the only 2 games with achievements that I'm aware of. I've got both installed but have only played Witcher 3 long enough to get an achievement. The achievements show up in Galaxy client after you exit the game. I don't know if there is any on-screen notification in-game when you achieve an achievement as I've received 5 achievements in Witcher 3 so far but haven't noticed anything pop up on the screen yet. It's possible it did and I just missed it.

So the information as to when it is coming is something like "a week or more ago". As for achievements showing up in other games that may or may not ever happen depending on if and when the individual owners of each game decide to add Galaxy achievements and other features to their games of course. There wont be any ETA for that sort of thing happening though, not from GOG at least.

If you still see "coming soon", then uninstall Galaxy client, and blow away the ProgramFiles\GOG.com and ProgramData\GOG.com directories and reinstall the new client. When I did that, all sorts of things changed including a lot of bugs I was having going away which suggests that GOG's "upgrade" procedure in the client doesn't perfectly update it but probably leaves bits of old mixed with new intermixed installation. Reinstall after blowing it away fixed that sort of stuff. Their "uninstall" doesn't work very well at all, I think it just releases it from the registry without deleting any actual files that were installed.

marklaur: While I agree the game does not require Galaxy, the only way to play the game according to the official manual that comes with the retail version (In Australia) states you must run the game from the desktop shortcut, no other way. And that is via Galaxy.

GoG deserves all the flak it gets as because told people they must use Galaxy in the manuals, there are no other options in the manual. Until they change the manual it is their official stance, you must use Galaxy according to GoG.

Now I appologise if I have this bit wrong as I have not read every topic on The Witcher 3, but I have just checked the forum and the FAQ does not tell you how to find the game executable. To my way of looking at it if GoG does not update the manual either online or the PDF their official stance still is you must use Galaxy.

From what I can see they are very quiet on the mater and it is only the community helping people get the game running.

Anyway enough from me as this is getting negitive and I fully support GoG, just not Galaxy.

I have had my say, time to leave. Sorry if I have offended anyone.

1) Galaxy downloads all files of the installed game to the directory configured in "Download games to".
2) When step 1) is finished Galaxy creates a new subdir in the directory configured in "Install game to" and moves all files downloaded in step 1) there.
3) Galaxy downloads and installs dependencies, creates registry entries that the game needs and/or default config files for the game in the users directory (or wherever the game expects them).

timppu: Thanks for the clarification, that also seems more plausible considering people also say the "Galaxy downloads" are bigger, due to not being compressed. Some more questions:

- Do you know why it first downloads them to a temporary directory? Why not directly to the installation directory?

- Does the game installation basically need twice the amount of space (temporarily) of the game installation size? Or are those installation files really moved (not copied first, and then afterwards all the originals deleted), ie. moved files are deleted as soon as each one is copied to the new place?
If you look in the log files of the Galaxy client after a game installation, you might see that the client downloads ZIP archives -- this might be different from game to game (i don't know, ymmv). Since those ZIP archives are "temporary" and will be deleted after an installation it makes sense to put them into a temp directory.
Whether those ZIP archives contain the complete game data or just some component(s) which enable download of the rest of the game files i don't know, so i am not sure how much available disk space would be really needed for a game installation...

Been using Galaxy on mac and not having many troubles. I just wanted to give a bit of thanks for the guys at GOG for making it so we mac users can see what works in our library. It was a big hassel having to go through each game on the site seeing what we could and couldnt play on our macs.


Just thought its nice to get some good feedback once in a while.

Maybe that put that because they think you will what things like updating, achievements, ect and put that so that you get those things via Galaxy?

No, GOG official stance never was that you must use Galaxy.

1. I understand your concern regarding game manual - I'm not sure when exactly it was created and translated, however for sure GOG did not write the manual.

2. at the very end of every single retail TW3 installation there is a screen that you have to manually click through (this time indeed prepared by GOG) explaining what is Galaxy as well as how to play your game without it / how to get game executable without ever using Galaxy.

Ok that makes sense, and maybe that has indeed changed recently. Considering how much some files compress, I presume it makes sense to transfer the files compressed, and then uncompressing them locally to the install directory. Rather than downloading the uncompressed files which might make the download time far higher.

Like Geralt mentioned, Blackguards compressed size 4.3GB goes to 18GB unvcompressed (install size). I know I like to download 4.3GB instead of 18GB with my 10Mbps cable modem. I presume people with monthly download caps by their ISPs agree even more.

(I don't know if there can be or generally is some on-the-fly compression/decompression of files during download, if the files are not compressed already? But I presume downloading 18GB of files really means downloading that much data, regardless of its compression rate (if any)).

Like Geralt mentioned, Blackguards compressed size 4.3GB goes to 18GB unvcompressed (install size). I know I like to download 4.3GB instead of 18GB with my 10Mbps cable modem. I presume people with monthly download caps by their ISPs agree even more.

(I don't know if there can be or generally is some on-the-fly compression/decompression of files during download, if the files are not compressed already? But I presume downloading 18GB of files really means downloading that much data, regardless of its compression rate (if any)).
As someone on a capped ISP... can agree. Feel my pain. xD
