Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

skeletonbow: The latter one is perhaps more disturbing because I want to see GOG succeed and thrive, not have broken things constantly that frustrate and scare away hordes of new customers. Kind of want to kick them in the pants and buy them pizza and beer at the same time if that makes sense. :)
Indeed. GOG are currently our DRM-free champions, but they're probably doing the cause as much harm as good right now due to the poor experience.

However, I guess the current mess is really more unmanageable only for those of us with large libraries, and we're in the minority (though our loyalty should be rewarded rather than punished!).

I heartily agree with the sentiment of getting things working instead of adding more broken features, and doing better quality assurance from now on in (poor quality assurance is usually more down to poor management: release crunch pressure, rather than incompetent implementation).

dirtyharry50: When people cannot buy a game here, download and play it then there is a real problem of significance but as far as I know that isn't happening at least with any significant regularity if at all, is it?
Did you but The Witcher 3, that's exactly what happened.

Regards

I hate to post twice so quickly but the above is the opinion of a few people I know, and at my age nearly 60 we do not quickly forget. The Witcher 3 launch forcing Galaxy that did not install correctly will have done a lot of damage and lost a lot of good will for potential using of Galaxy.

We still like GoG but now have no intent to use Galaxy now. no matter what. No amount of fixing will alter that.
But I suppose it is not aimed at people my age anyway.

Any one else got a server problem with the client atm? :( It's only the games, not the extra's.
EDIT - Ignore me. I've just tried it again and now the manage folders button is working. Don't know why it wasn't before.

when italian?
Hi,

I download the beta galaxy client for windows and used it to download the witcher 3 (it took the entire day),
yesterday at night, after my 2 first hours playing on the witcher 3, I was about to shudown my PC , then I noticed that the file explorer + keyboard crashed together and couldn't work normaly anymore. All the system get unstable and I had to reinstall.

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
CM: ASUS ROG Maximus VII Ranger.

Could the conflict possibly coming from one of these two? or from Galaxy? or The Witcher 3 itself?

I reported the issue in mantis.

Achievements can only be added by each game's developer.
Contact them and ask.

The Witcher games have achievements, Witcher 3 and the Witcher Adventure Game, and the Witcher 2 has them but they were not working yet (might be by now though).

I know BKGaming answered your question, but if you were still curious, the reason that button is "coming soon" is because it's actually the button to disable Achievements for players who don't want them. Right now, Achievements can't be disabled.

I don't blame you for not reading all the walls of text here including my own but I did mention earlier that I have not purchased the Witcher 3 yet. I'm sorry to hear that was problematic although I imagine whatever the problem or problems are there, they are getting high priority attention and should be fixed soon. Still, considering the size of that game to download, I can't blame anyone for losing patience with GOG for not getting that all important release right.

In fairness, I did mean the games on GOG in general as opposed to the new Witcher release in particular which is one single game. As far as I know, most everything downloads and installs fine. Not that this constitutes any excuse for Witcher 3 being screwed up and you inconvenienced. I don't blame you for being unhappy one bit. That much should have been tested and right considering how likely it seems that Galaxy was rushed out to capitalize on the Witcher 3 release.

In my own recent experience testing the Galaxy client on a Mac I have downloaded and installed a total of ten titles of varying sizes, one of them rather large and had no problems at all. So they must have screwed up something specific to The Witcher 3 would be my guess. I did hear from a friend that an update caused a full redownload of the entire game or maybe it was a DLC that caused that. I forget now. He was not pleased and neither would I have been.

Anyway, I'm sorry if my comment rubbed salt in the wound there. I certainly didn't mean to do that at all. I hope the troubles you have had get sorted soon or have been already so you can just enjoy the game you paid good money for.

I would not say Galaxy isn't for you or older people at all. I think it is going to be very nice in time when it is actually finished and fully tested. If Witcher 3 requires Galaxy for updates, that was a big mistake by management. It isn't right to do that for an expensive paid product and have it depend on what they are calling beta software but which in reality by definition is alpha software (Galaxy is not even feature complete). If it couldn't be done in time, they should not have launched with a dependency on it. That's just wrong in my opinion. Actually, it's just plain wrong period.

By the way, I'm just a 56 year old kid so what do I know but I think Galaxy is going to be good in time for folks of all ages. ;-)

dirtyharry50: As I talked about in my earlier post, that isn't a reasonable expectation in an alpha version of any software which you can expect to be loaded with bugs, missing features, screwed up functionality, various programming mistakes, memory leaks, etc., etc., etc.

I feel your pain particularly as has been since pointed out to me that the site itself underwent drastic change in concert with this so-called beta release of Galaxy. I think the problem you are seeing is going to be sorted out but all the bugs in the database (and I am sure there are tons of them) plus various features not even implemented yet all have to be assigned various priorities and then to various engineers to work on them. Then the fixes and additions have to be internally tested (I hope!) and then another build goes live for public testing and this is going to go on over and over until Galaxy is feature complete and finished with beta.

You cannot judge this as a finished product that should work properly. It isn't and it won't for some time.

Just in case you missed my earlier post: beta software is a finished, feature complete version that has been internally tested and judged ready to be tested further by many hands on a lot of different configurations which is not possible to duplicate in the QA test lab in the interest of finding and fixing missed bugs of importance.

GOG's management would have been wise to clearly define what this software is currently and accurately so that people would understand what to expect and be able to make informed decisions about whether they want to be testers of it or not.

If the double entries you see are in your start menu, you can find that with the file manager and delete them easily enough. There are probably other ways too but I forget now since I went Mac a few years ago now. As for duplicates in the control panel Remove Programs view I believe sometimes you can remove those right there by attempting to remove something that does not exist which will result in Windows prompting you to delete the entry if desired. Failing that, I know I have found a free utility before (probably on CNET.com) to display all the entries there and allow you to selective delete anything you want. I suspect it is really nothing more than a specialized registry editor as that is probably where the info for that list is kept.

Hope that's helpful.
avatar
MarkoH01: Thank you for your reply. I agree that this software is far from ready. Unfortunately GOG nearly forces the user to use Galaxy by hiding the GOG downloader links and not supporting this functional tool any longer. As I wrote in another thread: if Galaxy really WOULD be OPTIONAL the GOG downloader would NOT be redundant. Therefore GOG has not said the truth telling us Galaxy being "The optional Client" as long as you don't consider using your browser a useful alternative. Now or tomorrow GOG downloader might break because of the changes in the GOG structure and nobofy cares. I cannot see how Galaxy then still would be "optional". It's morer than that. On their page they are even stating that they HATE forcing people to do something - well, I HATE it if somebody lies to me (again: using my browser is not a real alternative).

No, unfortunately the double entrys I am talking about are not only in the start menu. They are in the installed programs part of windows (Control Panel -> Programs) which you can only change by editing registry entrys. I have no deinstalled those games and reinstalled them using the normal installer files. I will not import them to Galaxy until they have fixed this. I don't like my registry to being scrambled just because GOG likes me to be a guinea pig.
It's been a long time for me since i looked into this stuff but I think you may be able to find a downloading browser add-on depending on your browser of choice that kicks in whenever an http download is initiated by the browser and would offer things like pause, greater speed, reliability, etc. I know you shouldn't have to go looking for a fix like this but it might be worth doing anyway just to solve the problem if you cannot access the GOG downloader at some point. CNET might be a good source to check but I imagine there are other trustworthy sites one might check too for something like this.

I've been fortunate in that downloading via my browser seems to work fine although I think it may be a little slow sometimes. So I never bothered with the GOG downloader myself.
