== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

I feel that you guys need to add a new way for somebody to add friends, it's a bit of a silly system at the moment.

Thanks for all the amazing games though <3
OK. Am I missing new versions?

Twice now, GOG Galaxy tried to update itself and stopped half-way through. The version I have right now is 1.0.2.958. I'm pretty sure that the number hasn't changed. Do I really have the latest version?

One thing that bugs me is that Galaxy will only check for a new version as it's starting up. There should be an option to manually check for updates from within the program.
When I uninstall Galaxy, I do not wish to find 63.8mb of Galaxy files under ProgramData, a registry entry and 2 services under my task manager (albeit stopped). I don't wish to have to download some cleaning program to clean this off my computer :( I expect that when I uninstall it, it uninstalls completely.
I've been using Galaxy for some time now (since the alpha invitation), to install, update, uninstall games and some other stuff.

So far I didn't have many problems. There should be a global option to turn off automatic updates, so that imported games do not get "de-modded". Then, the "update" option for single games should override the global setting. Also the launch target should be configurable, since some games support command line options that I would like to customize. Other games have source ports or alternative launchers (like GothicMod.exe instead of Gothic.exe). Preferably this should work like your standard Windows link, where you can simply edit the target.

I can only speak for myself, but really think GOG set the wrong priorities when developing the client. I think the integration of the whole website, including forums, chat and the store should have come later.
They should have concentrated on creating a stable application for downloading, installing, updating and launching the games first. These are the really useful parts of having a client. If it were only for me, I wouldn't need the website integration at all, since I prefer to use my favourite browser with Tampermonkey scripts and Ghostery blocking Facebook/Google/Twitter integration anyways.

So game management should have top priority, the next thing would be a multiplayer lobby (with a working friends system). GOG already has a (more or less, currently) working website that anyone can use. Stuffing it into the client should have had no urgency at all (except for the library to access not yet installed games of course, although I would have preferred a different view there too). When I think about what I want from a client, "browsing the website" is the last thing that comes to mind.

What happened now is, with the Witcher 3 launch, we have a half-working client, and a half-working website, since many things were broken to make it work with Galaxy. This is almost a worst case scenario, because it leaves a rather bad impression on all the new users coming here for the game.

I think they've just used Qt5 webkit to have the site features embedded in Galaxy. If you notice when something changes on GOG site, it instantly appears in Galaxy. They don't integrate community stuff in Galaxy, but point Galaxy to the site. Hence

They are just the same. It saves development time I think.

Agreed! At the current state Galaxy is just the simplest browser you can get without any plug-ins and popular features. Personally, I don't like posting via Galaxy as it doesn't have spellchecking, and I use it a lot since English is not my first language.

Agreed, but...

The site changes were made with Galaxy in mind. IMO they should have left the site in peace and put all manpower into getting the core functions of the client to work properly. Maybe they have two different teams (web and client core) and the web team can't really help with the rest of the development, that would explain much.

Could be. I even think people who made Downloader were not involved in Galaxy development at all. How else can it be explained that Galaxy doesn't have major core features such as pause/resume and file verification (for extras and installers)?
Here go a bug (?)

Galaxy download the installer for "Unreal Gold", "Unreal 2: The Awakening SE" & "Unreal Tournament GOTY" in the EXTRA folder.
Hold on, what the hell is this? Why the hell is Galaxy filling my C drive with cache shit?

I installed it on another drive because I do not want it wasting writes to my goddamn SSD!

Amending this better be on the to do list, as I refuse to support software that doesn't respect my system like this.

Edit:

Oh it gets even better, I had it open just now, went to play a little Evoland, and when I quit I find Galaxy is downloading nearly three gigs worth of Deponia without my permission, even after I cancelled the surprise "update all the things" that happened after the autoupdate? I have monthly bandwidth limits and am close to my cap, I don't need this shit happening!

Edit 2: Ok, I found the disable autoupdate feature (the slow game-by-game option, there needs to be a 'disable downloading globally' option)... but that doesn't excuse the restarting of downloads that I expressly cancelled. When you cancel something it should stay cancelled until next login. The hell is the point of a cancel button if it's just gonna keep trying to download?

I understand that it's a beta, but these are basic usability features that should already be handled properly.

Just a friendly reminder after reading recent posts. I hope that in every case I am reading about in terms of bug reporting, criticism, etc. people are keeping in mind the requests in blue at the top of every page in this thread regarding where to report bugs and suggestions. These things are more likely to get the desired attention if logged in those places and hopefully everyone posting about things here is being sure to do that as well. Other than fixing some glaring problem, I would not expect feature requests at this point to make it into 1.0 being realistic. I think people should keep that in mind. This is supposed to be a beta and features are supposed to be frozen at this point or the thing will never get finished. At some point in a design you just have to decide where the stopping point is and consider feature additions for either a point release or next version.

Personally, I don't see any problem whatsoever with integration between the client and the website. This is the same model Steam uses. The client is by design intended to be capable of completely replacing the website even though there's no requirement to use it. Thus all website functionality is being integrated into it. It was never intended to be a glorified downloader with added features to begin with. It was designed to be an online store with full support for downloading, updating and playing games with client added features to enhance the experience.

A problem with this beta is that it isn't really a beta. This is alpha software and I will tell you why after a career in software development myself: this application is not even feature complete. The feature complete application is not even done and therefore has not even been internally tested. This is what is supposed to happen before either a closed or open beta program begins. A beta is supposed to be used to get the application into many hands on diverse hardware so that the feature complete app can have bugs found that were missed in internal testing, those bugs are then fixed and released in a subsequent beta to users and the process continues iteratively until the developers are satisfied the application is sufficiently stable for a 1.0 release to customers. No new features are normally implemented in a beta.

A project in alpha is a moving target with features still being implemented, many more bugs than beta typically and both internally and if end users are involved in development for feature feedback, focus testing or whatnot, this is the time to potentially make adjustments to the design, etc.

GalaxyClient strikes me as being somewhere in the middle which by definition keeps it squarely in the alpha camp until it is minimally feature complete.

So, why is this being called a beta and being rushed to release like this? I suspect many of you understand the reason behind this decision. They wanted to tie the new Witcher game to the client for updates thus drawing exposure to GOG.com and hopefully driving more business. That is not a criticism on my part by the way, simply an observation. Obviously they didn't want to hold up the Witcher release so they needed to get the parts you see now into working order as a priority and tested as much as possible as rapidly as possible. This may not even have been the plan earlier on but it could have taken shape given the state the client was in as the release of the Witcher 3 was approaching. Who knows? It doesn't matter now anyway. I don't own The Witcher 3 yet myself so somebody please correct me here if I am wrong in this assumption. I took a look at the store page for it on Steam just now and saw no indication that you needed to go elsewhere for updates. So maybe I have that wrong in which case I can only conclude the rush is simply because management wants it done ASAP.

I don't fault them for any of this personally but I think one needs to keep this context in mind when forming impressions on the current state of the client, the priorities seen in how it is being implemented and the fact that it has plenty of unfinished features and more bugs than ought to be in an open beta.

It looks to be off to a very good start but as so often happens in software development, there is a lot of pressure to deliver something before it is ready for primetime and what you're seeing here is just one more example of that. At the rate they are going this looks very promising to me as an outstanding alternative to Steam in many ways. It just needs time and plenty of it. I do not envy the poor souls slaving on this in crunch mode right now. I have little doubt a lot of long hours are going into this each week by the people working on it. So cut them some slack when something pisses you off and offer a suggestion or bug report rather than caustic comments about how this sucks or that sucks or I am outraged by whatever, etc. There are human beings just like you on the other side of the screen reading this stuff and doing the best they can to provide what their employer asks of them while trying to make something they feel proud of that will be pleasing to you.

This is nowhere near a finished product and should not ever be seen by anyone any differently than that. For those who are not having fun here or who feel compelled to contribute to the process, participating in a beta may not be for you and sticking to the website until Galaxy is finished may be a better option unless you need it specifically for Witcher 3 updates and I haven't looked but maybe it is possible to get those from the site as well?

Just my two coppers and then some.

100% dead on... +1 for you. :)
We're releasing a small Galaxy update (still in the 1.0.2 branch) with a few minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
I have installed the following games vie normal Installer:

Shelter
Ceville (German)
The Witcher Enhanced Director's Cut
Total Overdose

GOG Galaxy did not recognize them so I imported them through the library. Now I have in my installed programs (Control Panel -> Programs) the following Entrys:

Ceville (German) - 1,32GB
Ceville - 1,27MB

Shelter - 520MB
Shelter - 1,27 MB

The Witcher Enhanced Director's Cut - 13,9GB
The Witcher Enhanced Director's Cut - 1,27MB

Total Overdose - 1,52GB
Total Overdose - 1,27MB

Galaxy also always creates additional Start Menu Entrys even though the games are already INSTALLED and should only be IMPORTED! Please fix this. The import function now this way is completely broken. Not to mention that it still takes waaay to long to import a bigger game like "The Witcher Enhanced Edition Director's Cut" (took about 20 minutes on i5-4440, 8GB RAM and Win7 64). Additionally "The Witcher Enhanced Director's Cut" Launcher still installs in English regardless if I use the German Installer or not.

Venom: We're releasing a small Galaxy update (still in the 1.0.2 branch) with a few minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
Thank you for the heads up on the update. The new version is 1.0.2.970.

Would it be possible to have the changelogs for the GoG Galaxy all in one easy to find place? Preferably a locked stickied thread? Or some place where we can look up all of the changes when we see that Galaxy has an update?

EDIT: sorry, it looks like this request is already in the wishlist.
