Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.
Please be aware that Client will accept any folder pointed to and will overwrite files inside it (this can for example wipe some mods or damage other apps in case of pointing to a wrong folder) and will update the game to the newest version (current default language English).

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- few games are not yet compatible with Galaxy and are marked accordingly on Library page
- back / forward navigation is only available in Store section and requires further work
- pausing downloads or throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- games installed in Galaxy alpha 0.6 that included DLC may require a full game reinstall in the beta
- reinstalling Galaxy (Windows) to a different folder than the initial install will cause an error
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer
- DPI scaling beyond 100% is nor respected on Windows (Client UI will be very small or 4k screens)
it is may 19th yet

After much screwing around Telika and discovered that if you access or install The Escapists through Galaxy it DEGRADES the game taking it back to an older version.

Just a heads up.
So to backup your games you have to download it all over again? Why don't you just let us download the whole package as before without installing it automatically? It was very convenient to backup downloaded packages from gog before. I guess i just wouldn't use galaxy till you will make normal download/backup options. Not everyone can have a superfast unlimited connection, you know...
OK can someone help me please?? Everytime i install Galaxy i keep getting "Not properly installed" BS. Ive redownloaded the installer like a dozen time and i still keep getting errors. Im very dissapointed and quite frankly I think im gonna refund my games and go back to steam.
avatar
EndreWhiteMane: I was referring to the 'install.exe files' themselves. Whenever I get an update flag I download the new installer so my backup stays up to date.
Galaxy seems to have no version checking for that like the GOG Downloader does.
avatar
saluk: I understood your question, but your (understandable) confusion is that Galaxy does not use install.exe files at all. Instead, it scans the install directory for a game for what files it knows should be there (readme.txt, data folders, launch game.exe etc) and downloads them all individually. When there is an update, it again downloads the individual files that have changed.

NO install.exe files at all. Galaxy itself is the install.exe. It's a totally different method. Eventually a bandwidth saver - rather than download an updated installer that's the size of the original, it just patches in a few files.

Currently incomplete, and a bandwidth hog.
Sorry but my intention is to replace the GOG Downloader. Nothing more.
When I get an update flag on the website I want to:

Start Galaxy.
Go to my library.
Select desired game.
In the dropdown select 'get backup & extras'.
Click on each file (installer and extras) and wait for it to download.
Close and exit Galaxy.

I have no need for Galaxy to do anything except download those files.
Just like the GOG Downloader works. No installs, imports, chat, friends.

This is where Galaxy isn't as capable as the Downloader as it doesn't check those files to see which are updated and which are current version. It just downloads all of them again.

This was my original question, am I missing something about how Galaxy works as a downloader only?

Galaxy is currently only beta software and is quite developmental and unstable. If you're looking more for working functionality and prefer not to beta test and experience the potential instabilities of that, you should consider using the GOG Downloader program instead as that is rather stable.

If you have any trouble though, please contact GOG support and give them 24-48 hours during business hours in Poland timezone with which to respond and assist you. They have excellent technical support and will definitely do their best to try to help resolve any issues that you might have.

Hope this helps, best wishes.

You're right - Galaxy does not do that yet but only because it is beta and they have not yet implemented that functionality which will most likely come at a later date, but hopefully a sooner later date than a later later date. :)

As long as sooner™ is before the downloader gets forgotten all together, which will be sooner or later. :-)
Thanks for the reply, I'm not a client person but the downloader sure is handy.

You can use Galaxy to download backup installers. Navigate to your Library, choose a game and go to "More" -> "Get Backup & Extras". You can download a standalone installer for each game and all the goodies.
Is it possible to pause the downloading in GOG Download and turn off the PC in order to come home from work, for example, and continue loading?

Not currently, will be in a future patch... you can right click in the taskbar and exit Galaxy while downloading which should allow it to pick up where it left off on a restart.

It's not a Galaxy.It's a simple GOG Downloader

Well you posted in the Galaxy thread, the GOG Downloader has a pause button yes... I would assume you can turn the PC off and resume without issue. Not 100% sure on the downloader.
