EDIT: Yep, it's none the better. It's still as crashy as ever. I wonder what kinds of sorcery have you guys employed to get it running, or if I'm missing some major dependency or what...it really is mysterious.
No tinkering done here. At least consciously. And it's not even running in compatibility mode.

The link to GOG Galaxy provided in that article is an affiliate program link. It contains that ?pp= http get parameter, so users coming to GOG from that link and making a purchase (I'm not sure for how long) have a percentage of money go to PC Gamer.
Don't click that link, if you don't want to support such practices.
PS: There's only one client needed and it's called web browser!

No. There is nothing.
The link has been implemented in a pretty hidden way, so that nothing will be shown on mouse:hover and actually the user won't ever be notified of the affiliation.
Here is the element containing the link (DON'T CLICK IT):
<a href="https://www.gog.com/galaxy" target="_blank" class="hawk-link-parsed" data-href-on-the-fly="https://www.gog.com/galaxy?pp=d965a463ac183af4828302b14522bb3371cec49f" data-merchant="gog.com" rel="nofollow" data-label="GOG Galaxy" data-hl-processed="hawklinks" data-track-type="click" data-index="1" data-component="Inline links" data-count="3" data-action="Click from HawkLink" data-nokrux="true" data-dimension90="713647118">GOG Galaxy</a>
The whole thing is manipulated on the fly so even using ctrl+u appears fine. It may be uncovered though browser's "Inspect element" on the link.
Shame on PC Gamer and even on GOG if this practice has been accepted.
As a side note, never trust what you see at first glance on the web.
EDIT: Added a string to render the affiliation link useless, if by accident anyone clicks it.

Thought there were laws stating that sponsored links had to be clearly marked or similarly adverts, hence all of the youtubers having to state as much recently.
