steam works just on linux install press play.

how is this handled in Galaxy?
for example i see GoG store have shadows of mordor (steam have it also) and on Linux it just works.

how is the experience on Galaxy?
To cut the fishy question short and cut its smelly head off in one go:

It's not handled by Galaxy at all, as there is no Galaxy client for Linux.

ROFLMAO

Shadows of Mordor has a native linux version on Steam that was made by Feral interactive. You might want to vote here, just in case something changes. However, that Linux version is do to some licensing bullshit no longer supported, and Linux is not even listed as a requirement anymore. Same goes for Mad Max that also had a Linux version.

Unfortunately GoG never got those Linux versions in the first place, which sucks!

As for the Galaxy... thankfully there is no Galaxy for linux.

you can use Heroic Game Launcher on Linux for GOG and Epic Games, Heroic also had a partnership with GOG earlyer this year. Cloud save, play time and achievements are still in Beta, but they work. You can also use Lutris to play your windows games on Linux.
The lack of Linux support is actually the only good thing that can be said about Galaxy.

The day GOG starts releasing Linux builds of Galaxy (no worry, they never will), I’m out of here for good.

You got shares in Microsoft or something?

Ya, Feral is very Pro-DRM so none of there Linux ports appeared on GOG.

I did play the Linux port of Tomb Raider 2013 and it had a lot of fps issues to the point it went into single digits in large areas however I installed the windows version on the same system under proton and it ran perfectly fine getting 50 frames in the same areas the Feral port struggled in.

I didn't play Tomb Raider but Dirt Rally (the original and best) was super smooth under Linux. I didn't do a back to back testing as this was before DXVK and there was no easy/good way to test, but was able to beat a couple of my previous best times on a couple os stages. Oh, the wheel worked perfectly too.
Not sure if it had less input lag or whatever but the game felt buttery smooth :)

Don’t be silly, the last time I used Windows was something like 15 years ago. I have been playing games exclusively on Linux ever since.

I don’t want this Galaxy trojan to reach the system I use, because then it would be used to DRM-ize the games I play like it is already the case for Windows games. As long as there is no Galaxy for Linux, I can be (almost) sure the games sold for Linux on GOG are still truly DRM-free.

I'm new to using GOG. I'm a bit concerned about your DRM-ize comment, as the whole point of me using GOG was have the backup installers and not have DRM garbage and have control over my own means of installation without the GOG galaxy if I want. What am I missing? tbf I've been Installing the bulk of my games via the downloaded installers rather than GOG. In what way have they been DRM-ized on Windows?

My gaming on Linux has been primarily been via Steam using Proton or Heroic Launcher. Having an easy means of launching Windows only games utilizing Proton without Steam would be a good thing?

I've got to ask, what distro are you running? I've been on Arch for the past couple of years (dual booting) but as much as I love the AUR and pacman I'm itching to move to a non-rolling release distro lol.

Once a game gets Galaxy integration, it leads to two kinds of unwanted behaviours:
- content being voluntarily locked behind Galaxy usage (multiplayer is the most obvious example, but that can happen to single player content too);
- bugs when Galaxy is not running, like games crashing when they try to register achievement unlocks or persistent saved games not working.

Since Galaxy is not available for Linux, both are avoided with Linux builds of games.

Most of my games I run on a Debian Sid, so that would not avoid the rolling model.

My secondary system on the other hand is a Debian stable, this one is happy with monthly updates (mostly security updates).

Wow, thanks for the info, that really is DRM-izing the games :-o. Totally with you on that then, very glad they don't have a Linux version, and long may it stay that way, they can keep that garbage off Linux. It's no different from Steam API call infested binaries then.

I’m glad the misunderstanding is cleared, and that you get why I don’t want to see Galaxy for Linux ;)

Your comparison to the Steam API is spot on, Galaxy integration is very similar to that.
