foad01: There are also some developers who create a new account to participate in the discussion about their games. Restricting access to only those who paid for a game would also exclude them.
avatar
arrua: An exception can be made with developer accounts. At the end of the day it is gog staff who give developer accounts their special "colors".
I saw developers who had a fresh account to post in threads about their games and it looked like they just registered here.

From all the solutions I've read I think GOG should limit the number of threads for new accounts to one thread per day during the first week or month.

As I said, you have it on more posts than anyone else here. You've become what you hate: someone that spams about Zoom. :)

I don't hate ZP. LOL. I think they are just a shady store. It is YOU who constantly tries to bring them up in this forum.

Again you can't handle the truth about this shady store and you are constantly triggered by it.

It is also YOU who decided to derail this thread.

Sigh. I can assure you, many of us who aren't individuals on that former 'boycott' thread you are obsessed with stalking are just as tired of your endless "goading" people into talking about Zoom then running to the mods complaining about them when they do. Then claim to be a "victim of bullying" or "posting off topic" when (many) people call you out on your double-standards. If you don't want that store mentioned (and I agree with not advertising GOG's competition here on the GOG forums), then be a better person and set a better example by changing your subtitle to something more positive and stop spam-mentioning it yourself in every single post you make...

You again... Double standards? Stalking? Who is stalking me right now? It is YOU.

You guys are abusing this topic to attack me. It is totally off-topic. This thread is not about ME.

I'd have to have "Zoom Platform" in my title to have spammed it more than you. Haven't derailed anything. The topic is about spam. You keep complaining about spam while you're spamming "Zoom Platform". I've probably posted about it three or four dozen times total. How many hundreds of posts do you have? If that doesn't count then I can add it to my title with impunity, right? Would it only be spam if I do it? Calling them shady, notorious liars, and whatever else doesn't mean you hate it? Wut?

What did they do to become shady, anyway? How did they lie? Did you buy a game and immediately request a refund after downloading it so you could have the game *and* your money only for them to refuse to issue the refund? I hope not. Only someone who's shady and a notorious liar would try to get a free game that way.

100% agree. Raw hypocrisy aside, "subtitle abuse" constantly mentioning other stores is just another form of spam.

Cavalary: Just butting in to say that the fact that this "solution" is even mentioned is an excellent reason why changing is an awful idea. Not that they wouldn't find other ways to mess it up too, but starting over is an absolute no-no.
It's hard to say what the solution is. If they changed to better forum software it would probably mean it's a good idea to keep old posts as a newer search feature would work better. Personally I think requiring at least one paid game or limit posts would be good. Many other places do it. And concerns over how it may impact the store are overblown. Eg, this "Valve battles spamming and phishing by needing accounts to have spent $5" stuff has clearly had no negative impact on sales at all for Steam:-

This has also nothing to do with the topic of this thread. This thread is not about me and not about ZP.

Asking you what they did reveals a lot about me? This "thread" is about spam. You accuse Zoom customers of spam. You complain about Zoom Platform being spam in your title. All of your hundreds of posts are spamming about it. How is that off-topic? If you mean my asking about refunds means I must have a lot of refunds, I have none at Zoom, and one from GOG for a pre-order. After receiving the refund from GOG, I pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition of the same game. No abuse of refund systems here. How about you?

First of all, I have never asked for a refund. So stop constructing outright bullshit about me.

It is also incredible. You simply can't stop abusing this topic to attack me.

I apologize for the ruckus here. It wasn't my intention.

Back to the topic.

As I said above I think GOG should limit the number of threads for new accounts to one thread per day during the first week or month.

Yes, this thread is about spam, but not only that. The initial aim was to talk about a future reimplementation of the forums in a more modern form, and I liked seeing all the different opinions about that.

But try to remain in topic guys: don't spam Zoom Platform here, it has nothing to do with all this shit, and I'm sure there are better places to discuss about all of that :)

A million times no to any sort of update, modernization, etc. For those of us who aren't webdesigners or insecure crowd-followers, and who look at things from a functionality perspective, no website has EVER improved by updating to a "modern" design. Unless you count more data collection and targeted ads to you as an "improvement."

When GOG "improved" the front page of the site, it took years for me to even have it functioning halfway correct.

The spambots are mainly bad from an "optics" perspective, which is more nonsense that people should stop weighing so heavily in their assessments. I don't think anyone is actually clicking on the damn things, calling their whatsapp numbers, etc. In a few hours a mod is usually around to nuke the posts. It's really not that big a deal.

I would be in favor of solutions that do not change the forum itself but put restrictions on new accounts such as limiting topic creation/comment posts per hour/day. That said, that is probably not that viable, as a dedicated spammer could make accounts, wait a month or however long, then spam.

But, if there is no viable solution, I would still keep the forums as they are. Love potions, spells, educational opportunities and all.
Before it gets drowned in the spam, there is an update of the Barefoot Essentials which is addressing the spam topics:
