I searched for 'the' and this is the result. Note, neither have 'the' in the title.

It worked fine. In the first topic, you ave the "t" in "What", the "h" in "should" and the "e" in "choose".

The search tool is so good, in fact, that there is no need for the letters to be in order. The second topic of the list shows that. The "t" in "Edition", the "h" in "graphics" and for the "e" the search tool went back to "rare" or "GeForce".

If the 'moderators' are uninterested or incapable, I suggest they leave, and make room for someone who is. Lest GOG gets a bad reputation which affects profits.

The forum reputation score is a joke, and the search doesn't work. And there are other daft, (easily repaired), bugs with the forum too. (Doing a search with two words, with a space between, finds nothing because it inserts '%20').

My respect for (old) GOG is fading. I assume some people just leave GOG in their wake and don't post their grievances.

GOG beware. You are upsetting a lot of gamers (Chinese too). Straighten up and fly right, or you'll find yourself relegated, like many before.

It is possible that GOG was a means to an end. Perhaps the investors are retired on their luxury yachts and what happens subsequently is uninteresting and irrelevant.

Maybe a tiny percentage of GOG users actually use the forum so it's far down on the list of priorities.

I wouldn't bother returning search results for the word "the" either, given it is going to flag almost every topic and the majority of posts that ever existed.

The two results that are returned are instructive:.

1. One is in a foreign language, with the word the appearing with an accent/diacritic. *
2. One is English, but heavily mutated with lots of accents/diacritics.

From this, I infer that GOG strips out accents/diacritics when searching, and that this happens after the exclusion of words like "the" occur.

This highlighting method doesn't deal with accents/diacritics, so the "the" cases that are flagged by forum search are never highlighted.

Nope. It really is a better way to search for topics, and this speaks volumes about the forum software quality. I had to do it myself several times.

Yes, the forum search is crap, but to be fair it's not the moderators' fault. Their responsibility is to moderate forum posts, not maintain the forum infrastructure code base. The lack of maintenance of the forum is really the fault of the people in charge of GOG, who are assigning the resources. Clearly, they are not assigning any resources at all to maintenance of the forum code. (what they are assigning resources to is a bit of a mystery, tbh ...)

Yes, it's rubbish, and it's been like this for so long that I don't even remember if it ever worked fine, I don't have any memory of it working well.
