So, I considerd to finally pick up Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak at GOG. Over time I have grown a bit wary of GOG when it comes to updates for more recent games and sadly my fears were justified:

This important patch introduced tactical pauses to the game - major new feature - and tons of bug fixes and balance changes. It has been released on Steam on November 21st. Problem is that Blackbird Studios says that GOG is the one to take care of providing the update?

Among the lack of proper cross-platform (mostly Steam) support for many games the lack of proper update support is the most biggest reasons why players choose Steam over GOG. In many cases it was teh developers' fault but this time it appears to be in GOG's hands. Please look into this!

Let's be honest, when GOG was created, it handled almost exclusively old games, aka finished products. As such they minimized costs, by not building an infrastructure for constantly updating a huge amount amount of titles. It's unfortunate, but GOG needs to catch up in this regard. However, given enough time, a big title like Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is guaranteed to receive its patches... eventually.

I was lucky to get Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in a star deal, and I was actually excited to try it out, but hearing this has somewhat soured my soup.

I guess the problem is dues to the features which are bounded with Galaxy, that'smy understanding. of the answer from the CM. Some players wanted a client & such freatures, now they have to deal with kind of situation.

Whatever, when you have two major clients it's logical the devs focus on the client with the larger amount of users. However i thought originaly it was the devs (from a game) who had to deal with Galaxy.... Anyway the real answer won't probably please GOG's users....they have to wait more longer.

Gog wants to be a steam a like competitor, this is why we get all the steam features here now. This is the way of the future, so be prepared to be treated just like a steam customer. Even drm free claim is on shaky ground now.

You are saying that they should stop their current direction. That's really not helpful, since THIS is the current direction. The GOG team has to put in a huge amount of effort in order to adapt to this new direction, that they have chosen for themselves. It's unfortunate but GOG is heading down the exponential growth route. They'll either work a miracle, crash and burn, or have to take some more unfortunate anti-consumer/unpopular actions.

The GoG staff do not read the forums all that often, I really REALLY encourage you to file a support ticket, it can speed up the process and have had good luck with it.

Every update related thread the same misunderstandings.

GOG WANTS to have the most updated versions of th egames as well. Sometimes they just don't get them automatically and if you inform them they will contact the publishers. However they cannot simply force their partners to update any games without severe risks to the relatiosnhips with them or future partners. Many people just don't want to understand this imo pretty simple thing. Th eonly thing you can do (except telling GOG about the update in question) is contacting the devs by yourself - pushing them constantly. Does not help always but mostly.

And yes, I know that those people I mentioned above will disagree. GOG should sue them, GOG should add this to their contracts and so on. But things simply don't work as easy as that. If the devs already sent them an update and it is not integrated here for a while that of course is a totally different thing. But other than that I blame the devs and not GOG.

Speaking of devs. I quote the link from the OP

The question if the devs even SENT them the files for the update was not even answered. Of course GOG is responsible for the integration but they cannot do so without having the files. Gearbox would be responsible to get those to GOG. Has anybody contacted them as well?

Did GOG even mention anything about the update yet?

There has to be somehow to download the patch by itself for general use.

Not that I've seen, and nothing in the DoK forum about it either. However, since they've not said anything at all, it leads me to believe that they haven't received the update files for the game. They would likely not say that, as it could be interpreted as pointing the finger at the devs/publisher and casting blame, which they wouldn't do.

If they were having technical issues with the files that's causing the delay, I'd think GOG would let us know.

So, yeah, until hear otherwise, I'm going to assume they haven't even gottent he update files from the devs/publisher.
