While in the process of setting up installer archive drive, I am running into an unexpected issue - out of about 20 games I went through so far, already three are completely missing GOG Downloader installer links.

What's even more surprising is that the web-browser stand-alone installers are there. I assume this is likewise true for Galaxy users, so it's only people with preference toward the GOG Downloader that are affected. When you click on GOG Downloader Links, it just gives GOG's default "404 not found" page.

The titles affected I've ran into so far:

Spellforce2: Shadow Wars
Spellforce2: Dragon Storm
Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition
Star Control: The Kessari Quadrant

The good news - it seems to affect just a few titles. The bad, it happened in the first place.

What gives, GOG?

I've just tried downloading Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars and NWN Diamond Edition (the only two games I own on your list) via the website offline GOG Downloader links in my library and they both download fine. Is it this that's not working for you or am I testing a wrong link?

EDIT: To clarify, they start to download fine via the GOG Downloader.

I just tried NWN Diamond and got a 404
You do realize the Downloader has been on life support since…about two years ago now, right?

If it stops working, that's it, end of line.
I don't know about the others, but Neverwinter Nights Diamond was removed from the catalogue and replaced with the Enhanced Edition. It is a well-known issue that the Downloader links don't work wirh games that can no longer be purchased (another example is classic Simon the Sorcerer).

It works fine here - as previously mentioned I can download NWN Diamond via the GOG Downloader with no problem at all. I go to my library via the webpage, click on the link under the 'Download Offline Backup Game Installers' and the download starts with GOG Downloader.

Not sure if this is important or not but I use both Adalia Fundemantals (which is set to show downloader links instead of ordinary links) and Barefoot Essentials plus I don't use Galaxy.

That's the key.
The way my script works gets around the error, but Caesar is right that it's a known issue that removed games downloader links don't work properly.

Your best bet is actually to use my script if you want to keep using the downloader links.

It could be... They don't appear for me if I use the "traditional" links (under the "More" tab).

Edit: ninja'd by Mr. Adalia himself with a great explanation.

These are the Offline Backup Game installer links, and they require you to download all the individual parts. (although only two in this case.)
The GOG Downloader links under more, when they where working, would download all the parts with a single click.

With the Adalia Fundamentals script it works as it should, just one click on the first download link and GOG Downloader downloads the rest of the files automatically. It seems like the download links are borked if you don't use Adalia's script (which is priceless as it fixes so much more too!).

I have no idea how that works for you - just tried it again for both (twice), and keep getting 404'd.

I won't be happy about it, that's for certain. I like its simplicity.

Ironically, I actually wrote to GOG a long time ago, when they solicited community feedback for the Downloader, suggesting to implement a file-check on user's computer for automatic notification of downloads and avoiding re-downloading (I don't recall clearly, but I think originally you could continuously re-download the same file as there was no local verification of its presence).

Galaxy is not what I meant, though. I absolutely abhor the tendency to cram "social media" everywhere nowadays, and it doesn't help that GOG's "new" privacy policy doesn't really have that much protection against data-mining, either.

Besides, the whole point of GOG was that you did not need a client to play your games in the first place.

Anyway, I hope the Downloader will stick around for a few more years so I don't have to rummage around for a reliable browser download manager.

Thank you, I did not know this - most likely the reason, as both Spellforce2 versions are already superseded by Anniversary edition.

I never really learned much about it, but it seems it might be a valuable investment now.

Also, thank you for your work. GOG should do the decent thing and at least throw some free game your way from time to time.

Anyway, appreciate all the responses - at least now I know why this situation occurs, even if GOG itself doesn't seem bothered by it. :(
