I know with some people, it's hard to even pass some friendly advise without being called a slave.
You gotta realize when you are on facebook,twitter, steam etc. it's digital dictatorship. You are ALLOWED by the company to be there. You have no rights. The same goes for GOG and any other site you can mention. There is no democratic vote on what should be done, what should be allowed, etc.

If you want to get the best of it all. The points I posted are worth following.

There is only bad, worse and nightmare on social media. The best way to use social media is to not use social media.

It doesn't add anything to any life. It only retracts freedom of thought and introduces herd-mentality on a global scale.

I beg to differ, when I registered here it was pretty civil even when forum members discussed political, religious or racial topics. - discussion was focused on making arguments in a civil manner,. Sometimes it got out of hand, people got verbally at each others throat, some could not stand each other - but that happens, when you throw a bunch of people together.There was no moderation at all.

The first noticeable change in the discussion culture here was during and after GamerGate. People seemed more polarized, more entrenched in their opinion and even not political topics devolved into political verbal trench warfare.
First calls for moderation were heard in the forum.

The second change happened around the time Witcher 3 was released, a lot of new people joined the forum. The way people treated each other overall took a nosedive downhill, I would even say political, religious, racial discussions got a hysterical, a bit manic note. Topics that have nothing to do with politics, like mentioned above, devolved into political trench warfare far more often. The forum here was a shit hole, eventually moderation was introduced.

I do not think it is the Internet or the social media - we humans in the western world have changed.

We have microwave chips, burgers and pizzas.

This is a good idea for conversations between individual people, I'd maybe just put it a bit differently: (1) assume good faith; (2) argue against statements you disagree with, not the person making them (it's not wrong to argue per se); and (3) don't bring up politics, etc. if discussing an unrelated topic (everything, including politics, can and should be discussed, it's just a question of when and where).

But communication between people is two-way: I listen to you, and you also listen to me. There is some balance to it. And the topic needs to be agreed by both sides of the discussion.

Here the situation is different. A company has social-media presence, presumably to "reach out" to the customers, but treats it as a one-way street only. We're looking to shove something, so we want you to listen. But we won't be there to take any feedback. If we want to talk about something, we will; if you want to talk about something, we won't.

People don't like being patronized and ignored. So if the company refuses to address the elephant in the room, they will continually be reminded of it. But this isn't really a conversation in the same sense as between individuals. There is no balance in it. So any such rules as the ones above do not need to apply.
