Ancient-Red-Dragon: No, GOG should not have done either of those things. Beamdog is the parasite of the industry. That's a factual, truthful statement.
avatar
TentacleMayor: No it isn't. It's an opinion stemming from your assessment of the situation. ''Parasite'' is a derogatory term, not a fact. A factual, verifiable statement would be something like ''Beamdog discontinued the original versions of Baldur's Gate.'' (That's what this is about, right?)
I think Ancient-Red-Dragon needs a lesson from Costner.

Not buying from GOG anymore. It was bad enough the only way you can get the classics is bundled with the trash EE editions but this is ridiculous.

Lord_Kane: Real Talk:

I dont think GOG should have deleted the gogmix honestly, they should have just renamed it, it seems heavy handed to have to just deleted it and not given the creator a chance to rename it to something else, and so I do not blame goral for seeing the hand of Beamdog behind this, because that is what it looks like happened. (on closer introspection this IS censorship but I aint going to delete it, because thats dumb.)

It looks like Beamdog got mad, soiled its diapers and made GoG delete it.
I dont mean to sound like alex jones, but thats what it looks like from here.

I do want to say to goral that name calling and accusations is not going to help, but I dont blame you for feeling that way.
but calling everyone who disagrees with you or offering a dissenting opinion a gog fanboy or hidden employee alt isnt going to help, but it is your right to do so.

but come on GoG, stand up for us at least once and a while? allow us to us gogmixes to send warnings about companies we dont like, you cant exactly say that Beamdog hasnt done shady shit in relation to its various EE's that no one asked for or their attempts to inject left-wing politics in to games they have "enhanced"? or refusing to allow the sale of the original retail editions by themselves? come on, that is like the shit nintendo did in the 80s

Its getting harder and harder to stand by GOG these days, but then again GOG is a company and companies are out to make money, but please choose to make money the right way.

ok rant over.
(dont rant at 6am folks)
^ So much this. Great post.

They do... yet they seem to be selective about it.

Maybe they just haven't gotten around to deleting those yet.

EDIT: Here come the GOG dick riders to downvote reasonable points.

Or maybe those just are not considered to be offensive to their partners? I am pretty sure the wording here is the problem - nothing more - and PaterAlf and adaliabooks aready said that renaming a GOGmix technically does not seem to be possible at all. So the only alternative would have been to do nothing even though they think themselves that the title was offensive or that they were told about that from their partners. Interesting enough, some people still are thinking that risking their relationship with their business partners would be the better choice here.

All of the above examples have wording as bad, if not worse in the descriptions of games and companies.

Either way, as someone who has seen the behavior of BeamDog employees and the war they waged on critics a few years ago I'm completely unsurprised they'd go after this list now. GOG appears to care more about their petty whims than the customers and there are plenty of other game sites to visit.

again, again and again. gOg is a business and as such needs to be seen as professional.

it has nothing to do with actual Beamdog, but how gOg is seen to behave in relation to a business partner (which Beamdog is, like them or not, and if Beamdog did leave, you could not even get the classic bonus games here anymore).

If gOg is seen in the industry to allow this, other partners will also think twice about dealing with them. it is all about business "street cred" - i.e. professional practice.

And as I've pointed out there is either a double standard or they only take action when 'asked' by a developer. There have already been ridiculous issues like the 'he said she said' issue with who forced the classic games to be bundled with the EE releases. GOG claimed it was BeamDog, BeamDog claimed it was GOG (representatives of course).

Have you pointed out to them these lists exists? I'm thinking they've got more interesting things to do than moderate and control everything, and probably just wait until someone else points it out. So, report these lists to them and see what happens.

However, if you really want to gauge their selectiveness, then don't say anything about this gogmix that got deleted. Not saying anything about this won't guarantee an absolute neutral test since that would also depend on how you present your request (and my interpretation of your attitude in this post gives me doubt of your success), but leaving this matter out of it and not immediately making accusations would help keep the research a bit cleaner.

Though, it might be nice to alert the members who made these lists (which you have suddenly brought into the light) of what you are about to do. That could give them time to copy their lists in preparation of making a new list with a new name if their lists get removed. On the other hand, they might not care as they might have already moved on to a different understanding rather than letting it fester inside of them. But it does seem like alerting them beforehand would be the polite thing to do.

I'm not offended by them... merely pointing out the hypocrisy. That I don't really buy the 'professionalism' argument.

While it would be an interesting test, I personally wont perform it. The ONLY time I've ever reported anyone on any forum is when they were offensive people who themselves had reported others. In other words massive hypocrites.

That's not hypocrisy. If GOG used language similarly, then it could be hypocrisy.

Perhaps inconsistent? I'd guess they're presuming everybody is going to follow the TOS and play nice with each other, and so don't seek out opportunities to slap wrists.

goral: As for my GOGmix, they've only deleted it after I've added Neverwinter Nights to the list, somehow it didn't bother them for almost a year (I've added this gogmix the moment Beamdog has hijacked Planescape Torment:, so it was in Febrauary or March 2017). And it's been on the top this whole time and several Beamdog fanboys complained about it and asked GOG why do they allow this. But GOG doesn't give a rat's ass about their customers so it's not surprising they didn't comply until Beamdog told them to do so.
I was wondering why they'd pick now after all this time the list has been up (feels like longer than a year) but this makes perfect sense with the next BeamDog hackjob of a classic on the horizon.

They've only created a single game themselves and it was steaming linear tripe.

This.

They are only going to delete such things and take action because someone asks them to, whether that someone is a customer or a business partner.
I'm fairly sure if anyone reported those GOG mixes they'd be deleted too (they still might if any blue is reading this and feels it's worth doing), the difference being EA probably don't care enough to check for and report these things whereas Beamdog clearly do.

It is if they're only going after the list because of the timing as a NWN 'remaster' from BD is coming soon.

Well, okay, if that's how you use the term, but I think you're using different dictionaries than I am.
