Appears to be an issue with resolution. You have to run it at 1024x768 or else it will crash.

I might grab it next time for the multiplayer after all. I rarely consider Steam forums, out of habit being the gogger I am. I must remember they exist...

Actually I just google'ed 'rune classic windows 10' to see what folks were saying. The resolution seems to be what folks are saying is the cause of the problems.
