GameRager: If GOG can release all those VNs and PC Building sims then they can release stuff like this and see what people want to buy.
Is anyone even buying those? There are tons of visual novels in the store, and I don't know a single soul who reads them or talks about them.

Some here buy them, and they must make some money if GOG keeps releasing them.

Also the point is that if GOG has time to get those GOG ready and make forums/etc for them here & has storage space for them then they can do the same for these sorts of games.

I am buying & reading as well as talking about those, and I'm super glad that they release 'em on GOG. Proof:

I could play this game. But graphics not good enough to me. And I do wish semi-simplistic game.

Most games of thise style, genre are very complex. I dont have much time to go in very depth in these games, but if it was semi depth game I could dig it.

GameRager: If the game plays and feels good I couldn't care less how it looks. ;)
That's well and good to an extent... I play ascii art games like Sanctuary RPG, Rogue, Wasteland and Nethack. If a game is good, it doesn't matter. But this game doesn't look that good, and between the price and the janky visuals, I'll give it a hard pass. GOG agrees, apparently.

GOG curation is so good, only good games are published here. LOL

To steal a response on that RPG Codex thread...

"GOG Curation".

LMFAO!
Yeah, I was interested in this one until I saw the price. The dev seems to be updating the game at a good clip and isn't being a total grognard in respects to game design. But it's going to need more positive reviews for GOG to reconsider selling it, which seems to trump all curation issues.

rjbuffchix: https://rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/legends-of-amberland-rejected-by-gog.128058/

Old-school RPG gaming, DRM-free, is why I game on PC. I have to say, I really don't understand this new rejection anymore than the Grimoire rejection. For folks who are distressed that the rejections are done by formletter, there was actually an interesting post in the linked thread about how GOG gave additional feedback to this particular dev (e.g., that the game doesn't have shadows).

Personally, I do support curation in general, I just want more clearly defined curation that makes more sense. As far as I am concerned, GOG is(was?)the place to go for old-school RPGs. SO continued rejections of these particular games raise eyebrows. Another post in the thread, and I'm paraphrasing, is that GOG used to be the store for old-school RPGs while itch.io was for hipster indies, yet now that trend is reversing.

Your thoughts?
My thoughts are I hope even better games like Dungeon Master were not rejected.

paladin181: Pretty gross looking pixel graphics... Stop trying to sell games with bad graphics as nostalgia. Pixel graphics were used in the best games at the time because it was the best graphics (or at least comparable) at the time. Now there are much better options for 2D games. Look at Hollow knight as an example. Stop muddying your game's appearance to disguise how bad it looks.
Don't forget that those games didn't even look that bad on the screens of that time.

tomimt: Then again, GOG does seem to try push visual novels as well and they seem to sell even worse.
That's pretty easy to explain. GOG gives support (or at least they should *cough*) to all the titles and has to test patches and prepare them for the public. VNs don't really get patched, unless they include gameplay. Also, with no gameplay, there is basically nothing to support. So GOG has no real work getting those titles ready to be released as well as no maintenance costs.

Really? There are definitely some active people in the forum that buy them. From my perspective, apart from Higurashi, nothing is worthwhile. And even that I wouldn't buy here because why buy digital when I can buy physical (DRM-free) instead?

BeatriceElysia: GOG obviously think it won't sell enough. Either they are right or they may change their mind. Would you buy the game if it comes to GOG?
The fact they aren't selling these kinda Games and other so-called controversial games is the reason I stopped buying from GOG altogether, Why bother buying from a shop that has a personalized curation system for hipster garbage, At least STEAM gives you the option to buy it all here you stuck with the nobodies at GOG deciding what you can or can;'t play and I don't expect that to change.

Their whole Curation is a joke cause they bring plenty of garbage titles over here but that gets the ok cause they hipster garbage and easy to sell to the braindead casual user. Even their policy on keeping games up to date is a joke cause they keep even incomplete games on the store that are broken that sure shows how little actual curation is going on.

Well, GOG 'curation' strikes again. And this time I don't think that it was rejected due to the personality of the dev. He seems reasonable enough. The reasons he quotes are utter BS. Really, GOG? Why do you keep making up stupid reasons? At least you stopped that stupid 'too niche' drivel, after you became the laughing stock of everyone. But your new made up reasons aren't any better.

Why not stick to the truth? 'We don't think that it would sell well at this price' would be an acceptable reason. Or 'Come back when the game is actually finished' would also be an acceptable statement, that I would fully support.
'We reject it because it has no shadows', however, is just another way of saying 'Our curators are morons.'

I would love it if the devs made a small update with some sort of shadows just for GOG. It would be fun to see their next move after that, it would put them in an ugly spot.
GoG is selling Master of Orion 3...... let that sink in. GoG is selling one of the worst games ever made MoO3.

With that said the RPG in question does look very bad and is way overpriced. Hollow Knight only cost 15 and looks far superior. I'm not a big fan of curation and I wouldn't object to letting this game onto GoG but I can only understand needing to make a profit and this looks like a game that will sell very few copies.

Also the Codex consists of people who loves old-skool RPGs to the point of obsession so I wouldn't take their words too seriously here.

I would as well. It kind of reminds me of the classic Might and Magic series, to be exact M&M 3. GOG will always be my digital distribution of choice, but sometimes there decisions leave me a bit confused. I hope they reconsider this title as I hate buying anything on Steam.
