Is there any chance GOG Connect will be back? It was an initiative I really liked.

It was officially dead years ago, they simply removed the half-forgotten remains.

Eh, give it a while. The very reason why they finally could be bothered to remove the link was to stop it from being brought up every so often. Now there may be one or two more who'll bring up its removal, even if even gaming media picked up on it when it happened, but eventually it should fade.
And indeed it was an awful idea.
