There was this worry right after GOG Connect was launched, that it will end in eternal limbo, much like the reclaim game feature.

I wanted to believe that would not be the case, but now I see where it's going.

GOG Connect can't be even accessed from the GOG website normally (at least I couldn't find any link to it), you need to manually type gog.com/connect in your address bar.

And then if you DO go to the Connect page, you can see that there are no games available to transfer from Steam. And there haven't been any for quite some time now.

I guess GOG Connect is dead already.

It is not confirmed as dead, it is just not active at the moment.

GOG did say that GOG connect is done when the publishers/devs involved agree to allow games from Steam to be claimed on GOG, and only for a given period of time. The first wave of games was present for a set duration. Expect more to come at some point in the future, but at present there are none that can be claimed. This is what we were told to expect, so is deemed normal activity.

GOG offered System Shock 2 as a freebie for Galaxy users recently.
GOG offered Worms Forts: Under Siege as a freebie for all users at the end of 2015.
GOG offered Duke Nukem 3D as a freebie for all users at the end of 2014.
GOG offered the Fallout Trilogy as a freebie for all users at the end of 2013.

GOG has occasionally offered freebies, but there are no freebies offered now. I guess GOG freebies are dead already.

Everyone and their uncle already owns these games already. There's starving children in Uganda who can't afford bread but own fucking DN3D.

Your analogy is pretty terrible.
It's good that GOG Connect didn't last long. I think it will still be here just not active.

I hope Activision, ZeniMax Media Inc. and Bethesda Softworks, Bandai Namco, Electronic Arts (EA), MicroSoft (Whenever they start selling their video games on gog.com), SQUARE-ENIX and Eidos Interactive, Take-Two and 2K and Rockstar, and Ubisoft don't ever offer their video games on GOG Connect.

Just repurchase the video games you have on Steam on gog.com again or wait for a sale or never repurchase them if you don't want to repurchase them.

Limited time promotions to draw new users to GOG. You're right, nothing similar between the various freebies being given.
When more games are added to gog connect, it will be accessible again.

Why would they make it accessible when there are no games available for it?
I think GOG Connect will be back when a new selection of games that can be copied from Steam to GOG are available.

I'm hoping that as the Summer Sale has ended some new titles will be available soon, but there was never a promise that Connect games would be renewed on a regular basis. They will become available every now and then.

They're hardly freebies when you need to have purchased them.

Don't worry, he was taking a jab at his own argument.
It was pretty terrible right? :P
Whatever. GOG doesn't have to give anybody anything. Its cool when they do but I'm not gonna whine when it doesn't happen. If I want a title that bad I'll just buy it.

They sure work like freebies for GOG as they won't get any money from the purchase you made.
Why would they offer anything during the Steam Sale?
That would just ensure people buy stuff there right now and redeem it here.

Yup, so terrible when everyone can see what happened to the reclaim game feature, which is basically the retail version of GOG Connect. Give me all this evidence you seem to have that will show me a different fate awaits this "reclaim game steam edition" feature. ;) If anything, retail reclaiming at least isn't temporary.
