Hello together,

I really like the idea of GOG Connect. The only issue I have is that the Steam Profile has to be public.
I think it should work, if GOG creates a steam account namend "GOG Connect" and you add that account as a friend, so your profile stays "friends only". I really dislike the idea to make my profile public everytime I want to check, if I have games on steam eligible for GOG Connect.

What do you guys think? Does it also disturb you, or is it just me?

Best Regards
I've never understood why so many people keep their Steam profile set to private anyhow. It's a gaming profile.
Well.. I really don't know how to put it..
You get these games for free you know, is making your profile public for a bit too much?
It's not just a gaming profile, it's a gaming account. If you, like me, have no interest in connecting with other people and only want to play the games you buy, there is no reason to keep your profile public.

Maybe it's just me, but making your profile public seems to be a small price to pay for getting free games added to your GOG account. What's the disadvantage of making it public? Are you afraid somebody out there's going to judge you for the 56.3 hours you spent playing HuniePop or something...?

My profile is not "private" it is "friends only" for sharing only with my friends. Why should you share everything with everyone?

It isn't at all. Thats why I really still like the system. I only had a suggestion how to optimize maybe GOG Connect for people who doesn't want to have their profile "public".

I don't think it's going to work. They're just using Steam's API to find games from your profile, they'd probably have to work out some deal with Steam/Valve themselves to actually pull this info from private profiles, which I seriously doubt is going to happen unless Valve bought GOG or something.
I don't think anyone can have so many friends added
on steam. Perhaps even non-existing steam staff wouldn't handle ; )
There's no way to get those games without public profile. Deal with it.
Wasn't this supposed to be a one time thing? Iff you do it now you can't do it later and it's not like they are going to add a game every other day or week (at least I doubt that) so you can set your profile public, add the games and then return to private or friends only.

Therefor I didn't talk about private profiles, I talked about "friends only" profiles.

Okay. Thats a good reason why it might not work. I think you are right.

There are dozens of dozens giveaways requiring facebook account I believe. Why should I complain I didn't get a single one only because I don't have a fb account? Free games aren't mandatory you know..

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's the same scenario.

Friends only acts as private for non friends. So basically the point is the same. The op wants to quibble over semantics when the basic point is the same.
