Good Tuesday morning everyone. Probably not the right section but I am tired of trying different methods. I bought the " Divinity Original sin 2 Eternal edition" just for a single purpose to play it with my friend who has it on Steam. We both read about this " connect GOG" thingy. I think by now that is impossible ? I can't find the list of games which are eligible for transfer and i am quite surprised there is so little said on the web and almost nothing comes up. Much appreciate if you help me out with the truth.
It's not currently available on GOG connect however I think you can play that game together if you connect directly to your friend by IP? Pretty sure it was possible.

Easiest way for the host to find his IP address is type in what is my ip in google.

GOG Connect has nothing to do with multiplayer. It's an occasional promotional tool that gifts you GOG versions of select games you have in your Steam library.

Read The Freaking Manual
It affects multiplayer here in the sense that the game, on Steam shows your steam's friendslist and you can select them to play games with without having anything to do with IP's yourself.

However, from what I remember reading direct connect between GOG/Steam players should still work fine.

I'd also argue it can severely affect multiplayer if the GOG version only allows to play with GOG players as some games do. It's not a direct affect on the game itself of course but a problem that could definitely be solved by being able to both get the same version of the game.

I think you are edging this whole thread. My question was simple as that and read the manual which is what - 2 sentences ? So you are backing up an entire "promotional tool" based on your no-to less experience with it. Nowhere on that page is also written the list of games eligible for the transfer. They are actually mentioned on a blogpost somewhere back in July or August but i can't find it anymore. Truth is, this service is 2 years old and theres absolutely no guide to it or list of GoG connect titles approved. Some shady tactics here eh?
If you can't understand what's GOG connect is from reading the GOG CONNECT FAQ, your reading comprehension needs some exercise.

There's nothing here invite more collective sigh from all the regular than another freakin thread about GOG connect

In fact i do understand it clearly - I've read the FAQ mutlple times. What i am interested in is the list of games eligible for transfer. It's clearly nowhere to be found. Also the service itself it has not been updated in more than a year. So please elaborate on how to trust some shady gaming platform if i can't enjoy a simple service they put up out there for me?

Just to be clear on the issue. I was mistaken. It's not even on GoG but on steam. What a waste of money.

There's no continuous list. There are no games available right now. When they are, they are only available for a limited time.

For the most part GOG connect was used as a promotional tool during big sales to drive people to the store while the sale happened. Rarely when a new game releases there's a connect for it.

As GOG Galaxy 2.0 allows a combined library there's the suspicion that GOG connect will only happen rarely from now on as perhaps it hasn't worked out as well for GOG as they had hoped.

Humble Bundle and Steam sometimes offer games for free.
Also you can get the keys from your favorite magazines about games.
(Yeah, CD-Action, thank you so much ;))
The amount of these free or cheap games in your library is growing and growing.
And these games are waiting for being connected with GOG ;)

So I think, the GOG Connect unfortunately will be available less and less often and it will offer repetitive titles,
because it becomes not very profitable for publishers and sellers.

Just imagine:
Someday, Keanu blends over you and says:
- Wake the #fckdrm up, Samurai. We have 50+ games to grab by GOG Connect ;)

Wet dream, isn't it?

If that were the case they wouldn't be offering it up free to begin with. It's more likely GOG hasn't quite seen the pull effect that Steam has by offering to enable games on GOG as well since, after all, those people already have their games on Steam as well.

For Steam it works well because so much is sold with a Steam key it drives activity towards the Steam platform and possibly purchases as well. While this may be true for GOG to a small extent it's also quite likely many of them will often just stick with Steam for many of their titles while still grabbing the GOG copy just in case. Heck, I haven't downloaded any of the connect games I've picked up.

I still wonder if it hadn't been better for GOG to offer up more gog keys for games, even in conjunction with Steam keys sales (which for now they seem to have not wanted to do), though at the same time I can see how that would've caused issues devaluing the games. Now that I think about it, you'd have a huge group of Steam purchasers who wouldn't care for their GOG keys and sell them off so it would seriously devalue the games. Perhaps if they'd gone with a direct activation instead but even that people would probably find a way to sell somehow.

They are still working on GOG Direct to Account feature which was announced 8 months ago so there won't be GOG keys reselling by third parties.

There are currently 16 individual questions answered in the FAQ. Kinda difficult to do that in 2 sentences.

No, I'm basing it on an extensive official FAQ that I have read and understood.
Nowhere on that page is also written the list of games eligible for the transfer.
Because there are none at the moment.

The only shady thing here is your ability to read and comprehend FAQs.
