The GOG community GA is dead, long live the GOG community GA.

Eventually. ;)

moonshineshadow: Just saying that back in my days at least half of the games were handed out due to nominations. And this was actually quite enhancing the community feeling. Because people went out of their way to check wishlists of people they thought deserved a game and nominated them. It was not just everyone looking out for themselves to grab the best game.
It was an awesome tradition!
In this case, if it is a question of favoring this great community spirit that you mention (dream?) we could lay down as a rule that no game is requested for oneself, but only by nomination. What do you think ?
Of course there will never be false accounts or multiple accounts in the same family and everyone would nominate only total strangers, no nepotism or clientelism.

Personally I would want one.
Not for getting the free games. I only look if there is something interesting but my list has grown so large, that I am not really interested anymore in most of the games as I do not even get to play them because of time and because I am physically unable too.
But I want it to get back because there people experienced gems and it whas nice to see people really enjoy getting it. I even started with it to donate every month Stardew Valley as doing my part so people stay home and stay safe.
I realized this thread is not there anymore after I already bought a key so personally I would love if there is someone take it up until Doc is doing it.
I thought about doing it myself but my mental health is a roller coaster so I think I may not suited enough for it.

get well soon :)
I wish to give away my Iris and the Giant key and I don't know where would be best place. I'm not OK with discord idea.

Assuming it expires, The Expiring Codes thread would be the place, Doc said so too. The fact that the thread in question tends to become a secondary Newsletter Discounts thread instead of sticking to these kinds of codes is another matter...

The Expiring Codes Clearinghouse Thread is theoretically the best fit, though people keep dumping newsletter codes there, as pointed out above.
Ninja Giveaway 2.0 is another option.

A third option is simply to create a new thread, e.g. "[Giveaway] Iris and the Giant" in the general forum, and set whatever principle you want for the giveaway (first come first served, random choice, some kind of contest, and so on).

It might be best to do this after the giveaway period on the GOG homepage is over - then people who missed it will be looking for a possibility to get the game.

Whoops, my bad. I often posted newsletter codes in the expiring codes thread. I had no idea there was a separate thread.

I will correct that going forward.

After having a long, hard think about things, it will be too much work for me to run both the community giveaway and my own giveaway events. As my own GA's are something that I enjoy a lot and I don't want to stop doing, I have unfortunately decided to drop out of running the community giveaway.

Sorry for wasting everyone's time but if someone else feels up to taking over from Finkleroy, I will support them as I have the previous incarnations of the community giveaway.

Although you have decided to drop out of running the community giveaway, I would like to thank you for thinking about it.

No worries Doc. They can be a huge time-sink and I have a lot of respect for those who have maintained them week after week, year after year in the past. If this were happening a year ago then I would have volunteered personally to step up, but as mentioned in the previous (now closed) DRM-Free on Epic list, there are personal reasons why I'm now just editing PCGW directly instead of maintaining a separate 2nd list, and I don't want to take on any more work at the moment only to let people down later on.

If lack of time is an issue such that no-one can be found to run one big central giveaway, then that's partly why I suggested decentralized ones, ie, each key donor simply runs their own mini-giveaway directly however they choose (4 examples in link). That way the burden is naturally spread over several people and is more sustainable in the longer run.

Doc0075: snip
I am totally against you running the community giveaway.
Didn't say anything because everyone was so hype.

You've given us so much, we can't possibly ask for your time too!

Let the community giveaway take a recess, so those who are here only for the giveaway can take their leave.

Nobody has to be sorry, your incredible generosity was a stain with this "community" giveaway where the raptors came running in the second. We al knew how the "ninja's thread is running (for years...)
It's better that way.

Just 2 thoughts...

1. Look for multiple people (2 - 4) to take rotating duty on a centralized giveaway and adjust due to schedule conflicts. It takes an initial level of searching and coordination, but ultimately keeps individuals from being overwhelmed. Running an ongoing giveaway is a lot of work.

2. Have a thread that aggregates links to both on-going individual giveaways and sporadic individual giveaways (may already exist?). Giveaways can be a key ingredient to an online game community -- a morale booster -- and easily knowing how and where to easily access them across the forum -- especially sans an ongoing centralized giveaway -- is important IMHO.

Doc, You've wasted no one's time... and... have fun and run giveaways the way you like. You've more than earned that! There's nothing worse than having a fun, enjoyable hobby become a structured "business"... the business of giveaways.

And as some are finding, Finkleroy was running a "business" and "clocked in" every day to work.
