I have had chat up and running for a bit now, and have had NO crashes. Is anyone else still having crashes??? Please post if you are!

Damn! I just wrote a long, increasingly random PM to you in an attempt to see if I was still crashing. I WAS able to write much more than I had been in the last few days. BUT I did eventually get a crash.

It DID seem to occur shortly after the text box "expanded" or "autoscrolled" so I wonder if that is indeed part of the problem?

Hmm, i don't know b/c i just wrote a long pm to someone and didn't have any problems, and before I didn't have to type anything and it would crash. *shrugs*

That sucks though that it is still happening. I've had mine open for, hmm, 20 mins maybe, and no crash.

I was able to type much more than before. Also, the crash was much less... abrupt? It was almost as if the code hit a "bad point" paused to think about something and THEN crashed - I could almost tell when I was about to crash out. Whereas before it was just *poof bang* gone.

So progress is being made it seems!

I wonder what is different between you and me. I'm using windows 8.1, firefox 40.0.3 and have no plugins. I did just clear my history though, right before starting chat b/c i was doing some bills and stuff. try that?

When I'm getting crashes it's using Win 7 64 bit. My only plugins are Flash, Adobe and something from Cisco that says Mozilla automatically installs it.

HOWEVER if anyone from GoG support is interested, I DID just get a new popup when Firefox crashed (I had chat open, but with a blank text box and no typing while I ran downstairs).

I have never gotten an additional notice before, just the "Firefox Crash" box that offered me the option to quit or restart. THIS TIME, however I received an additional notice that "Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working."

If anyone from support wants the "Problem signature" that this box spit out, ah... LOL PM me and I'll do my best to get it to you!

I"d PM (lol) Johny. I was gonna send him a video of my crash. He seems to really want to see what all the crashes entail since they can't seem to reproduce it.

Thanks! He'll probably want to see this then, because it looks like it includes some valuable stuff, including a .dll and some "additional information" that looks strangely like gibberish to me but that I'm sure is some kind of string which might be helpful.

Crewdroog: How's it going? Any word?
avatar
Johny.: We couldn't reproduce it in any possible way on various machines... Maybe it's just bad luck that it's not crashing for us. ;P We already put a lot of effort into that, but we had different work to do (you'll see soon). I will check it also on my private win7 machine. Actually I have two, so keep fingers crossed that it will crash. :) We need to have that machine in our network.

Also, if any of you want to - maybe you could record a video (even with your phone and upload to dropbox :P) of how the crash happens?

Edit: Ha! I have your T-rex in the quote.
According to your previous post:

"This is what our QA tested:

- Virtual Machine with Windows 10, FF 40.0.3, multiple tabs open. Nothing.
- Virtual Machine with Windows 10, FF 40.0.3, single tab open. Nothing.
- Laptop with Windows 10, FF 40.0.3, multiple tabs open. Nothing.
- QA PC with Windows 8.1, FF 40.0.3, multiple tabs open. Nothing.
- QA PC with Windows 8.1, FF 40.0.3, multiple tabs open, some addons installed. Nothing.
- Samsung laptop with Windows 8.1, FF 35, 40.0.2, 40.0.3. Nothing.
- OS X 10.10 with FF 40.0.3, multiple tabs open, with some addons. Nothing.
- Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and FF 40.0.3. Nothing.
- Virtualbox Windows XP, FF 30, 33, 40.0.3. Nothing. "

You never tested it on a REAL win 7/64 machine. My chat crashes when I use FF no matter if I start it in safe mode (all add ons disabled) or not - no matter if I type something or not. I just wait and crash. And I will NOT use another browser just to use the chat system (which worked perfectly at the time it was called PM btw ;)).
Yeah it is still happening... no problems over the weekend but since Monday the browser crashed almost everytime I was writing a message...

I made a video which shows how I start FF in safe mode (without add-ons), entering chat, waiting (doing nothing) and crashing 2 minutes later. You cannot see much because I reduced picture quality drastically but if you still like to see it I can upload it to google and send you a link. I made another video with good quality before but it was about 2GB ;)

still crashing too , i finaly got an answer to the support ticket (a real answer.........>_>), but still no fix for the moment.

i'm puzzled why it's not have been tested on a real windows 7 (couldn't prove nothing anyway, since some people have no isssue)

You lucky devil!! Two whole minutes?! I never survive more than 30 seconds.

When I get a chat message, I:
1) open chat
2) quickly copy-paste the message to an open editor window
3) close chat
4) read the message and write a reply
5) open chat
6) quickly copy-paste the message from the open editor window
7) close chat
8) pray

Just for FYI, 58% of MaGog's users use Windows 7. I assume it is somewhat representative of GOG.

Actually I did - on my private PC.

To all:
We did put a lot of work into reproducing this - I really can't believe we can't do it and it must be something stupid. Like Mozilla doing AB tests for users and serving different FF updates for "our" part of Europe. :P But that's like impossible.

I did read on FF bugtracker in one of your reports, that the bug is not appearing in coming (Nightly) version. I cannot test it because it's not crashing on any machine for me, but if you're willing to do this - please do. :)

I have also another idea to let you great users test something, and I've created a simple test - please go to chat using this link:
https://www.gog.com/account/chat?gogisthebest (not that I mean GOG is the best, but it is :P )
This will disable feature of auto-expanding message input. Please report to me if you had crashes using this link or not. :) Thanks!

mrkgnao:
There is a much higher percentage of windows users on GOG.com website. :) I suppose linux users use magog because they like such tools. (I am linux user myself)

I went to chat using your link and got no crash. (Windows 7 64 bit and Firefox 40.0.3) I waited for 5 minutes (longer time with no crash then before).
