GOG bonus codes have a fixed expiration date. For example, the Realms of Arkania 1+2 bonus code given last year, expires for everyone on 30 October.

I just checked mine and it expires on December 29th, 2014.

I don't think GOG has a way of generating codes on the fly, so I imagine that the GOG codes have already been created with a fixed expiration date. I could be wrong, but that makes the most sense to me.

Yes but in that case the codes were there from the beginning. In this case HB seems to be retrieving the code before showing it so I thought GOG might be providing them on demand.

Well, my explanation does not hold either as it would not account for the date that Impale26 got. I guess we'll have to recommend that users check their code on retrieval to be sure.

A two-months-difference is a bit too much to be explained with timezones, don't you think? A more logical guess would be that the GOG codes given are a collection of codes obtained by the devs at various past occasions (i.e. in stock).

I don't think that's the problem. They might have checked that the codes are valid now.

The problem I see is that when you ask for the code there is no warning of any kind about a possible expiration. As far as I know, the equivalent Humble links to get a Steam game don't expire so if you don't know GOG you won't expect the expiration.

The best explanation would be that it's some sort of glitch, though even Dec 2014 feels on the short side.
If it's not a glitch, then what I said seems like a plausible explanation, given that the expiration dates vary this much, plus them being only a couple of months away.

I think that the devs have given out GOG codes in the past, so they could have a stock of various batches of codes they got in the past. Each batch should expire at the same date, known by the devs, so, if they just go with the ones that haven't expired yet, they're good.

I think a lot of people don't realize it even if they know gog. Remember purchased gift codes (16-20 digit ones) don't expire, which is one of the reasons I started this thread. And from some earlier comments I'm not sure the devs realize these codes do expire (though I would like to believe that gog tells them somewhere that they will expire). On another note for at least one of the bundles did explicitly state that the expiration dates of the gog keys.

This is very plausible, but once again a little annoying that they would give out codes with such short lives, as in this case that's less then thirty days after the bundle ends. I don't remember ever hearing for certain how gog's key giving is done. Would it make sense for devs to keep keys like this or should they ? Maybe I'll see if judas or another blue can speak to the matter.
