Amaz'n Craze won 2-0 against Eternally Enthralled.
This match was really cruel on Rodzaju. The vampires clearly entered the match as the underdog, but nevertheless in the first couple of turns it looked really good for them. All his bloodlust rolls succeeded, whereas all my dodge rolls failed, and one of my blitzers suffered a casualty very early. I had also chosen a crappy starting formation, which he swiftly exploited to break through my lines. But one turn before he could score, one of my catchers succeeded with a dodge, a GFI, and a 1-die block against his ball carrier (both down). This had been my last and only chance to prevent the touchdown, since my team was horribly out of position.
It still looked good for the vamps since the ball lay free next to two downed players, and the vamps were in a good position to pick up the ball and score a little later. However, the pickup failed, and the ball scattered to a place that was ideal for me. In the next turn, everything worked for me - blocks, pickup, handover, even a pass, and I ran the ball deeper into the vamps' field than they could follow. After that turn, the vamps had no way of preventing me from scoring.
The second half began badly for the vampires - I got an "offense snap" and the vamps kicked the ball into their own half. I formed a half-cage and tried to score a quick second touchdown, but I had completely forgotten about hypnosis. Through clever play, Rod opened a path to crowdsurf my ball carrier - and then Nuffle punched him in the face. First, his bloodlust roll failed - the first failed one after 24 succeeded bloodlust rolls in a row. But he still had the chance to sack my ball carrier ... and rolled a skull, the only result that left her standing.
This left his team in a bad position. I brought my call carrier into a safe place for scoring, protected her, and fouled a vampire that lay on the ground (not really necessary at this point, but I forgot that fouls don't yield CAS points, and we had bribes from a kickoff event, so it seemed a useful move with little risk at the time). Nuffle continued to have his fun with the vamps and CAS'd the fouled player, and then CAS'd him again with the apo.
That seemed to have broken the morale of the vampire team, who stopped playing. They didn't concede, but didn't take any actions in their turns either. Which caught me completely by surprise since I had never seen or experienced this before, but it's not against the rules. Basically, a player who does this will get MVP and earnings (which he wouldn't get by conceding), but he also makes himself vulnerable to further injuries. In any case, this caused the match to end in a rather odd way, with Amazons knocking down the remaining opponents, and those simply refusing to get up. I could have fouled more players in an attempt to "force" my opponent to either play on or concede, but that didn't seem right to me either. So the match ended with a 2-0 touchdown and an entire vamp team on the ground (though there was one more turn in which spectators injured one of the thralls with a thrown rock, and the vamps succeeded with a pass).
In the end, this was a lucky victory for me against an opponent who is the better player, but had an unskilled team _and_ Nuffle against him. (Even in the end, I think Nuffle gave the MVP to one of his mercenaries - but perhaps he can hire him, I'm not sure how mercs work.)
