Let's just say I feel slightly guilty. I got something like four Blitzes against a team with 1040 less TV :P.
Final score 6-0 for the elves. At least I did no lasting damage ...

Sooo, time for a bit of post-match analysis. :)
My match plan against the Big & Heavy Fists was:
- Spend my inducements on a Halfling Chef to reduce their large number of re-rolls
- Keep my players away from the ogre fists for as long as possible
- Wait until the ogres run out of re-rolls, get bone-headed, and lose their tackle zones
- Dash through the gaps quickly
- Use superior speed to score (or get to safety), use stolen re-rolls for risky moves if necessary
As usual, my match plan was completely, utterly worthless. ;) This time, the reasons were:
- Brutal ogres slaughtering most of my team before my players could even think of getting away
- Ghiro rolling pretty good dice throughout the match, and failing only 8 of 78 bone-head rolls. There were only 5 bone-headed ogres in the entire match, and never more than one per turn.
How went the match?
Well, I started on the offense, caught the ball in flight, and thought I might actually get a good start for a change. Then Fanny Hill rolled a double-1 on her very first GFI, which left my ball carrier defenseless. Ghiro started rolling a 6 for bone-head, rolled a block that sent one of my players to the ground, rolled 5+6 for the armor roll, and 6+6 for the injury roll. He then used a re-roll on a failed bone-head roll, sent my ball carrier down, broke the armor, and again rolled 6+6 for the injury roll. I was ... underwhelmed by my players' performance.
However, Ghiro failed a GFI as well. In the next turn, I managed to pick up the ball, handed it over to one of my catchers, and ran the ball home.
The rest of the second half consisted of ogres slaughtering elves, and me trying to patch the gaps in my defense while attempting some gung-ho attacks on Ghiro's ball carrier, but I eventually ran out of players, and he scored.
The second half started with 7 wood elves against a full ogre/snotling team, and the ogres had the ball. Not exactly a great position for my wood elves, presumably the ogres would continue to grind my numbers down while the snotlings would try to score the winner. However, in a move that may have decided the match, Fanny Hill stood a leap, made a dodge, survived two GFIs, and successfully blocked Ghiro's ball carrier right in front of his own end zone. This shifted the balance completely - most of the second half consisted of both teams struggling for the ball, with perpetual danger for Ghiro since it was so close to his endzone. With most ogres at the line of scrimmage, the Fists also needed some time to reorganize, while the wood elves enjoyed their mobility. I made a risky leap to grab the ball, hoping that it would at least scatter away from the Fists if I couldn't grab it, but instead it scattered right to an ogre, who even had the audacity to catch it. Hrmph. ;)
Eventually, Ghiro managed to grab the ball and run away from his endzone, but he couldn't properly protect the ball carrier. This allowed me to cut the ball loose again, and score my second touchdown in turn 15.
Dice analysis:
1-die rolls: Average results for me (-0.23), pretty good dice for Ghiro (+10.10). However, I think I had good luck with the truly crucial rolls - like the move that sacked Ghiro's ball carrier next to his own endzone, or the moves that led to my second touchdown.
Armor/injury rolls: Brutal dice on both sides - +23.25 for me, +20.26 for Ghiro. I don't think think I've seen a match yet where the combined numbers of both teams exceeded 43. While I had actually slightly better dice here, the effect of Ghiro's armor and injury rolls was much larger, since he had 51 rolls in total (against my 15).
Final Thoughts:
It's always nice to start the league with a victory, but I really would have liked to keep my only player alive who ever received a stat upgrade. Though, come to think of it, it was a curse for him as well as a blessing. As a STR4 player without block, I mostly used him tactically, tried to keep him safe, and hoped he would eventually get MVP points, get Block, and would then start to rock. However, after his strength upgrade, he never received a single SPP in more than 10 matches.
Also, fun fact: I now have a line-elf with a smashed ankle, fractured skull, and broken neck. This means that every stat except strength has been downgraded. Robert Burns, say hello to the line of scrimmage. Line of scrimmage, say hello to your new caretaker.

There's not much I can say about my win over Zeta. I didn't expect to be competitive let alone win, and injure over half his team at the same time. Just a brutal display by my Mummies Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia and Jan "The Giant" Nortje. Both leveled up from CAS's.

After watching this game, a league reset with 1000 TV teams seems like a pretty good idea. There is simply no way my 1000 TV undead team can win agains E_A team. Not even with inducements.Final score 6-0 for the elves. At least I did no lasting damage ...

Also of S2 playoffs teams i think 6/8 had started fresh tv1000 and only 2 were old teams. I think all the old teams dropped at the first round of playoffs.
E_A's now mean DE's lost straight like the first half the S2 league matches...and then went on winning streak ever since - check his teams match ingame and you can see for yourself.
BB is -very- Nuffle game. While TV is sort of indicator how good a team is supposed to be - you do not really know what happens when the dice start to fly during match.

The only really rough injury that we took in the game that is not a good one is -AV to Ogre. Not sure what to do about it.
Everything else is more or less survivable that we took.
It was straight up an ugly game. I didn't have any business winning. I got flustered and couldn't pull up after we started falling apart. And eventually, you get to a point where you can't defend--an 11-on-6 situation often falls in that category.

One thing to note: In season 2, nobody expected Arnob to beat Rodzaju's returning champion lizards. But he did it.
Anything can and will happen, regardless of how overpowered a team is. E_A has a couple glorious targets, and there are some killer teams around here. Maybe Hawk's 'Mummy Magic' will have something to say to his AG 6 epic.
I understand the lack of confidence when playing an OP team. After playing Werecrow's MooMooCows last season, I thought no chance in hell I would recover. Then I made the playoffs (riding the coat tails of an overpowered player, but i digress).
The point is simple. Just play your best, and hope to whatever deity you believe in that nuffle will be with you. If he is, anything is possible.
