Greetings!

Alas I couldn't find any topics on this subject so I'll take a bash at it.
In regards to the GOG version of Anno 1701 AD... The version comes up as: 2.0.01905 (Not 1.04?)

So if anyone else wanted to play with you via LAN / Multiplayer (Hamachi / Tunngle) they would have to run the GOG version?

My friend has a physical copy of 1701 AD (Including the sunken dragons add-on) version 1.04. Will he have to download the GOG version for us to play?

(Sorry for the noobish questions)

EDIT: Also.. Is there any patch or workaround for the friend to update his game from 1.04 to my version? Thanks.

anno 1701 is the European version of the game and 1701 AD is the US version of the game, they are not compatible as far as I know. It's the same with anno 1404 being the European version and Dawn of Discovery being the US version.

The US version does not have Anno in the title, y'all have different versions of the game.

Gog uses their own internal version numbering. The 2.0.01905 that you see is that of the GOG installer, which can correspond to a different original version (I don't own the game so I'm not sure which one, but GOG usually has the latest official version, with the exception of some cases).

As for compatibility, GOG and non-GOG games have been compatible, but it really depends on the title. Since I don't own this, I can't tell for sure.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'll look into it. perhaps its my ISP blocking some ports. To test this I may tether my phone to my laptop.

After you install the GOG game, check the exe file, or the game itself to see which game version it is. That's one way of checking the original version.

Sure enough. The 'version' in the .exe file was a strange version. Hence why I posted the unusual version numbers. But when I run the game the patch numbers are normal. 1701 AD: 1.04, 1701 Sunken Dragons: 2.03

So it beats me why I can't connect to via multiplayer with my friend. That will be a different topic in the anno community.

This post was more to do with GOG's version numbers. Thanks for the help man.
