P1na: I'm pretty sure they have, but Japanese publishers are problematic. Also, it's believed Sega doesn't want to sell PC games in Japan, so lack of regional rrestrictions is what keeps them off GOG
That doesn't make sense. Why the hell would the top managers of Sega deny themselves the opportunity to get some extra money? I'm sure there are just enough Japanese gamers who would love to buy some games off of Steam or GOG to result in profit. Grargar: A list of games that are regionally-locked on the Japanese Steam store. It's not pretty, I would say, but that would be an understatement.
Not to get too off-topic but the title of that first game is pure genius.Post edited March 08, 2016 by infinite9

I dropped hints about GOG while trying to still answer honestly. There was never really a "Additional comments?" area.

You are right, Sega doesn't make sense. They make (probably Japan only) arcade machines of total war but refuse to sell total war games on PC in Japan. If I was a cynic, I would think they try to force Japan to use only consoles and arcades because that makes them more profit. In my personal experience, "PC games store" was an euphemism for "porn game store"

If Sega (and/or Capcom, or any of the JPN pulbishers that won't come here) said: "Ok, we will distribute on your site, but you must region block Japan (and/or East Asia - which JPN publishers tend to do on Steam fyi). Would everyone be ok with that and say "OK". Would GOG admin even take such a deal? Would the userbase accept Japanese published games, knowing that the country of Japan (and likely all East-Asia) were region blocked? Or would everyone panick about it being a harbinger of things to come?
I personally would be fine if Japanese publishers came to GOG with the caveat "block all East-Asian purchases", and I live in that region for now. There is always a way to get something if you really want anyway, and I imagine most of the site's userbase is in the Americas and Europe anyway.

AFAIK, they have pre-existing publishing contracts in the Asian region, or at the least something related. This is why virtually none of their (AAA Japanese publishers) games are available digitally in East Asia.

I doubt the reason they don't want to sell PC games in Japan is because they think there's no demand. I rather think that it's because they don't want to 'compete with themselves'. If Japanese gamers had the option to buy them on PC then they might not buy the games on wherever it is Sega is selling them. Heh, why not? GOG's already thrown away flat pricing, allowed pre-order exclusives and regionally staggered release dates. Having a release date of 'never' in one region is just the logical extension. Thankfully I've mostly stopped caring... and buying. EDIT: Or hey, they could give some games such a staggeringly high price in Japan that either no one buys it or they make a shitload of money from whatever sucker does. It's a win win! Hooray for New GOG, it's nearly as good as New Labour.

Yeah, that's a bummer. I mentioned the lack of DRM-free choices as a reason why I don't play mobile games, and referred to GOG.com forum as where I found out about this survey.
