RyaReisender: I said more recent and not recent. More recent than the times where Sega was still the coolest company ever is what I mean.
snowkatt: that sega has been dead since 2001 Apparently, Sega actually started off as an American company that imported Japanese arcade games and regionalised them for the American market - translations and the like, not sure what happened directly after then...
Ah they went Japanese in 1984 after the videogame crash, apparently - Thanks Sixtoe!

Fever_Discordia: Yeah, I think it was around then that they were going down in flames and were 'saved' by getting bought out by Sammy who are a Japanese Pachinko machine giant because Pachinko is huge in Japan, for some reason...

david rosen set sega up in 1948 or 58 ( im a bit fuzzy on the date ) as service and games and a pinabll machine and juekbox importer in hawaii
he moved the company to japan in the 60's
sega disintegrated around 2001 and was only saved because f a 700 million cash influx by one of its board members left to them on his death bed
sega and sammy merged in 2004
but the exit from the hardware market signalled the end of the sega we all known and love

I'd say Sega was going down way before 2001.
I like this interview as it points out everything that went wrong with Sega: http://www.gamestm.co.uk/uncategorised/behind-the-scenes-shining-force/

In addition to their older catalog of games, I think it would be a major victory if GOG could release some of SEGA's more recent titles. It might even attract other Japanese publishers like Square-Enix!

I don't think gog is concerned with getting new publishers right now. They're currently busy turning themselves into the cartoon network.

WUUT Bold comment: if SEGA comes, better bring some SATURN and DREAMCAST games with them. Emulated to perfection ;P
Gimme my Saturn fighting games, 2d sidescrollers, gimme my Sega GT, my Shenmue, by Skies of Arcadia ;)
