Hey, guys! God of War was announced to be coming and listed on GOG all the way back in last year. Some users did mention it would be coming shortly after the Winter Sale, in January or at least by February (this month).

Well, it seems like we've almost passed those speculated dates and it still hasn't been released. Does anyone in the community or even the GOG team have any insight as to why it's taking this long?

Mostly because people keep asking about it. Like when yer hungry for a good stew you can smell cooking.
They're probably saving it for a big sale.

Last I knew, around early-mid Jan I think(?) Clownski said on the GOG fan Discord that there were some legal hiccups, so unfortunately it might take a bit longer. (I don't have a source handy though.)

Maybe the cook has burnt the food and had to start all over again.

A few weeks ago one of the blue guys said that they are still working on it, trying to get it done.

I guess it's some legal problems.
I imagine the moment someone up the corporate ladder, figured out it would be DRM free and his head imploded at the prospect of trusting people lol
Probably not that crazy, because it is not the first franchise Sony was releasing DRM free; and most likely there is no evidence of higher risks regarding anything illegal. However, the number in sales are simply rather low on GoG compared to all the other platforms the game is already available. I guess Sony want a "better deal", something EGS was always capable of...

Take into account, this is not the newest God of War title, actually a pretty old one which has been released on PC 2 years ago and on Playstation in 2018, hence the full name "God of War (2018)".

God of War Ragnarök so far has been Playstation only, and surely a good reason getting a console.

If Sony really was "way to scared" regarding DRM, they would have used Denuvo or alike... which is not the case on the other platforms, so the DRM is rather weak.

Well, if his head exploded, he shouldn't be a problem anymore...

It can already be played DRM free. All you need is to add "-EpicPortal" to the exe call.
At this point it's safe to assume there's *something* preventing GOG from releasing the game, and seeing how the keep pushing Sony titles to the storefront (Sony sale, newsletter banner, more random highlights) there's a good chance it has to be with Uncharted and Days Gone not meeting sales expectations

Which, like I've said in the past, it's a bit silly, people interested in GoW don't necessarily want to buy every Sony title

I wouldn't be surprised if Uncharted didn't sell as well as GOG was expecting and didn't make the money Sony and GOG agreed on, unfortunately; or something along these lines. I'm just basing this on it only having 5 page of reviews, admittedly; even Days Gone only has 12. Though maybe that's to be expected, as HZD has 58 pages but has been here for three years at this point, and it had far more community wishlist votes than Uncharted + having a Sony game show up here for the first time was mind-blowing.

It's almost as if most people just buy on Steam if you keep your games off GOG for years and don't even promise a GOG release further down the line.

If you want better GOG sales figures, put your shit on here Day 1 or at least give a "GOG release to follow in 6 months" heads up right away...

^ This.

Contractual hold-ups, but the team was/is working hard to get it here as soon as they can.

That was Jan 20th.
