Lol if the NY Times says it's bad, it's probably worth getting. All anti-virus software "scours" your computer. This is just the usual anti-Russian hysteria that's become fashionable again since people became jaded to Islamic ter'rism. Gotta give the people their boogie man lurking waiting to getcha. If anything you should be more worried about what your own government is doing with your info, cuz like what can the Russians or Chinese do to you if they don't like what you're doing (unless you're in Russia or China)? Either way, virtually all anti-virus and security software does the same job. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

TARFU: Kaspersky is getting a bad rap these days:
Kaspersky actually bricked a PC of mine (insofar as you can brick a PC, I was still able to low-level format and recover the drive, though not the data). Bought a copy and downloaded it, uninstalled what I had been using, installed Kaspersky, and during the initial scan-reboot-scan cycle, during the boot the PC abruptly powered off. When I powered it back on, it had no boot sector.

So for me, it deserves its bad rap. Took me a whole weekend to reinstall everything. Well, except Kaspersky, obviously.

I just recently reinstalled POE and had zero issues with galaxy. However when in doubt you can always try the offline installer and in the mean time open a support ticket about your issues. Maybe you can help them fix their bugs.

the important part from that article is not about Kaspersky:

The N.S.A. bans its analysts from using Kaspersky antivirus at the agency, in large part because the agency has exploited antivirus software for its own foreign hacking operations and knows the same technique is used by its adversaries.

“Antivirus is the ultimate back door,”
if you worry about being hacked by an intelligent service, DO NOT use any anti virus software ;)

I love these comments. OP will appreciate your help, too.

BeatriceElysia: Still no luck.
I guess only option left is to abort download.
Why wasn't this one of the first thing you tried? Do you have a shitty ISP?

BeatriceElysia: I tried offline installers only for them to be corrupt.
Ouch, this is a bad sign:

1. You have problems with your HDD and it stores downloaded data incorrectly. Try check it.
2. You download data with errors due to problems with your Internet connection.

You can try:
1. Run a check on your HDD.
2. Try downloading offline installer with download manager able to check for errors in downloaded files. After downloading recheck downloaded files for errors. If there is a broken parts of it - manager redownload this parts of file and try to check them again. If problem still exists, something blocking your downloads.
