GMDX alters maps too, but it does so in very subtle ways. Mind, I'm still in the NYC areas but there's nothing really game-changing so far, just alterations to NPCs' and world details' positions that enrich the experience rather than making changes for the sake of; there are also more items, including weapon mods, lying around. That's just for maps - you have changes and additions to AI, skills, interface, audio, weapons, gameplay mechanics, etc.
