I've been trying to gift someone a game every time it goes on sale, unfortunately it's only been a month or two since I spent the pre-requesite amount to unlock this. Any ideas?

You can contact support. If your account is in good standing then they should be able to "switch gifting on" again.

I'm very curious how you managed to amass 58 games since 2014 without spending at least $10 until recently.
I cannot buy a game as a gift, why? | GOG Support Center

Update: (Editing this post so as not to derail the thread) Thank you for the answers, that clears it up. I sort of momentarily forgot about the freebies, since I consider them complementary and not the main attraction. To each his own.

Entirely possible just by taking freebies. There is like 5-10 giveaways every year.

Wow, I did not know about this. Since when exists and what for?
Gifting here is much more expensive because it switches to the global price...
I was kind of happy GOG did not have this limited account crap like Steam... I was wrong.

About the number of games of our fellow:
There are more free games than 58
https://www.gog.com/games?sort=popularity&page=1&price=free
+ Giveaways (GOG, humbleb)...
+ Receiving gifts...
Not a good idea to judge by the number of games.
You'd get surprised then that it took me more than a decade to spend a dime on Steam and lift their stpid limited crap

Mostly because of the grey market / cheaper region scummers selling cheap gift codes / buying with stolen credit cards and so on. Same as happened on steam.

Thank you. I get the part of stolen credit cards. But they could remove the game from the recipient's library in case of GOG having troubles getting paid. As crude example they just removed the Timberborn demo from the user's libraries:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/games_removed_from_the_gog_catalogue_by_year/post346

About the cheaper region, when you select the option "Gift this order" during the checkout the price changes to the global price (Which as I said here in my country are much higher... if you know country names where the prices go down as gifts please share the info!) so I don't get the "protection point" GOG forcing people to spend $10USD before being able to purchase gifts...

The legend that appears when selecting the option "Gift this order"
"Gift prices in your region are equivalent to the games' region-free price. Due to this, gift codes purchased directly on GOG.com can be redeemed globally with no regional restrictions. If you're shopping for yourself, deselect the "GIFT THIS ORDER" option to purchase at your local price."

right, so you're complaining about paying the same price as everybody else for a gift.
you also want to know about how to make that cheaper?
but you also agree the grey market is bad?!?!

Can they also remove the offline installers from the user's hard drive which will work without login, keys or internet connection?

I'm no fan of regional prices (largely because I don't live somewhere like Russia or India and have to pay pretty much full price), but unfortunately, if you have regional prices, you've got to have the gift restrictions. Otherwise, everyone gets the game at the cheapest price (everyone would have an alt that they use with a VPN to buy a gift code that they then pass on to their main account).

You can't rely on the honour system - look at what happens with refunds. Just in the last seven days we've had someone posting asking whether he can refund a game just because he doesn't like it and a second user who created a thread saying he wanted to refund the Witcher 3 because it was crashing and he couldn't be bothered to figure out why (admittedly, the second of these isn't as bad as the first). Then, at Christmas we had a tonne of people refunding Cyberpunk just after they bought it - and who probably kept the installers - (and some who clocked over 200 hours before asking for a refund). In short, you can't rely on honesty from users.

Measures like this are usually in place to prevent credit card fraud or purchases with other stolen payment credentials. Otherwise, someone could buy a bunch of gift codes and sell them off for cheap before the payments get disputed eventually.

I am afraid Sachys you are having delusions. Read again forced by your own poor reading comprehension and regret your false accusations & insult because I won't flame back considering you initially had the kindness to reply.
Tip - The price question was an irony and rhetorical: I challenge you to find a country where purchasing gifts is cheaper than purchasing to the self account.

Well observed Randalator. No, they cannot. BUT: How forcing the user to spend $10USD in advance to ,,gain,, the ability to purchase gifts gives GOG the magical powers to erase offline installers in case of possible further frauds/disputes?

You are right pds41 but my two cents: Society relies on trust at some point. We cannot paralyze coexistence in society just because of mistrust.

Yes Robette, it seems -to prevent credit card fraud or purchases with other stolen payment credentials-
Some observations:
1) You cannot purchase more than 1 copy of a game by order (The whole store has no concept of quantity). And I've heard (Not confirmed by myself) that there is also a restriction to the number of times you can buy the same game (in different purchases) per day.
2) Therefore, you would need to buy 1 copy of a bunch of different games BUT,
3) You get only one serial key alone to the whole purchase -not individual keys by individual games-
4) As I repeated several times already, buying gifts is more expensive (or in the best case, the same price) than to the self account.
For us not searching the hole to abuse, the bullets 1,2,3&4 result logic & good to prevent frauds and the malicious idea of purchasing keys to resell and/or to commit ccard frauds. (My opinion: Thanks to this kind of measures, the grey market & resellers are not a problem for GOG)
That's why I dare to express my discontent to a restriction illogical & abusive to me (GOG & Steam). And I provide my arguments beyond the obvious reasoning speech of "preventing frauds".
Seriously, I invite you (not more, not less, because we know any discussion here won't change anything the way the stores work) to think again about it, hoping you detect the way this forces people to spend money under the disguise of "prevention" treating them as a second class in the process.
GOG already have business rules (1 to 4 are only some) PLUS the banks/paypal set of protections (business & money related) to dare to try to [-fool us with this ,,innovation,,- (Again, my opinion)]
But hey! Their businesses and they can do whatever they want *As long as we the customers are also disposed to accept*

Now if you excuse me, this poster self isolates to the unpopular realm of the misunderstood & really weird thinking.
