Let's simplyfy this- every possible popular franchise you can think of either has a sequel/prequel/remake of some sort in production right now, or has one stuck in development hell. There are new Power Rangers and Baywatch movies in production for fuck's sake.

Way too soon, in a theatre disturbingly near you.

The nearest theater is 50 miles from me. :P

Strijkbout: So it's true, the new Ghostbusters have no dick? :^P

dtgreene: Why does that matter? I wouldn't expect any movie (outside of porn, which this isn't) to show the genitals of the characters, so why does it matter what genitals they have?
*face palm* go watch the original movie.

Strijkbout: It was a reference to the original movie.

And for what it's worth, I didn't thing the trailer was that bad and Melissa Mcarthy is usually good for a few laughs.
That is quite amusing, she is awful!

phaolo: Is the new trend going to be reboot + swapping gender?
Such innovation..O_o

Matewis: Hmm, I wonder who would make a good female Indiana Jones, or male Ripley, or female terminator. Oh wait, they did that one already :P
I don't personally think the fact that they went with women is a particular issue. I think the fact that they went with women who seem to have no chemistry is a huge problem.

George Lucas had similar issues with the prequel trilogy. Back when he was casting for the original movie he was doing group auditions. That's a large part of how Harrison Ford wound up being cast despite having already been in American Graffiti. The chemistry of the group he was filling a role in was the one that Lucas thought was the best.

Contrast that with the prequel trilogy where the casting seems to have been based upon finding individual actors without necessarily paying attention to the chemistry.

Breja: They're making Lethal Weapon into a tv series right now.
And people wonder why my favourite movies are decades old, my favourite director is Alfred Hitchcock, my favourite actor is Paul Newman and why i like hundreds of movies that are older than me but only a handful moves made after 1990. Lethal Weapon with "Flash in the Pan" Damon Wayans who was mildly amusing in the first Scary Movie? Shoot me now, please!

Why didn't they just go with 4 women, instead of 3?
I think people here are being pretty generous in terms of how they're treating the film. I don't necessarily agree with the complaints about the CGI, but at least people are being reasonable about it. I can definitely understand why they dislike it in this case.

Smannesman: I'm just going to pretend this doesn't exist.

ScotchMonkey: Like when Indy hid in the fridge to survive an atomic blast?
I'm sure there's a cue file somewhere to remove that from the movie. The bigger issue with the movie was that terrible ending. If you cut that off, you don't have an ending at all.

The Wayans brothers were hilarious 20 years ago. But, they've lost whatever comedic talent they had years ago.

"How's he go to the bathroom with all that stuff on?"
Ugh, I can't even .. I mean it's just so... why!??

I'll just go with Bill Murray's reaction on this one.

Just saw the trailer. Pass the brain-bleach, please, so I can forget that this exists.
'Epic fail' is an understatement in this case.

Uggg... just watched it, and it rubs me the wrong way, the same wrong way that the new TMNT did.

It looks like they are pushing for more slapstick humor, and nerdy girls fantasy than anything else. If nothing else, it fails because it's trying to be intentionally comedy. (Is licking a gun while wearing glasses and a lab coat suppose to be sexy?)

I remember in either extras or a side interview with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones (for MIB2?), where the movie is a comedy but they didn't play it like a comedy or try to make it intentionally funny, instead it was funny due to the context and playing seriously (that and Tommy Lee Jones has no sense of humor) which made it funny rather than throwing in stuff attempting to be funny. It's also a reason Leslie Nielsen because he played totally straight and serious 100% of the time, making the time he was on screen funny.

THIS... they are intentionally being stupid and trying to be funny, and it feels like the 'scary movie' team which worked in the cliches when they were starting but stopped being funny and is no longer funny.

Wow. Hollywood is doing its shitty routine again I see. Yuck. I don't think I'm even curious enough to even ever rent this tripe.
There has to be a better trailer than this one waiting for release. I'm actually curious as to who put it together and honestly thought to themselves: "Now this will really get people excited for what's coming".
