Oh, Hollywood...

This movie is as necessary as Burnt by the Sun 2 ;P

hedwards: Would you have preferred that they overused Pepper's Ghost? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper's_ghost
I think people just wanted "realistic" looking ghost and not something out of a scary ride at Disneyworld. The general problem with CGI in movies and TV Shows it that the designers make everything too colorful, shiny, plastic toy looking. A good example is the CGI remake of the original Star Trek series. While they did a good job on the planet backdrops, the spaceships look like toys.

Same problem here, the ghosts look like out of video games. The ghosts in the original movies looked better, more toned down and realistic.

I'm a huge, huge Ghostbusters fan, i watched the first movie probably a couple hundred times, so many times in fact that i know most of the dialogue from my memory, both the english original and the german overdub (in fact whenever i watch the movie in english i have the german lines in my head playng at the same time)
I was always hoping for a third movie, be it "Ghostbusters go to Hell" or any of the other promising stories. After Ramis died i knew Ghostbusters is dead and thankfully there is Ghostbusters - The Video Game which is awesome.

This Remake is the second black spot on the Franchise after Extreme Ghostbusters. Just like all Remakes and Reboots (think Knight Rider, A-Team, The Dukes of Hazzard) it just doesn't work and after watching the trailer i know this movie will be a failure. Not only because the trailer probably showed the best scenes already but it wasn't even good. From the shitty CGI to the fact that it looks more like 4 middle-aged overweight women cosplaying to look hip and young, the humour was typical modern american crap and as said, the CGI is disgusting. When i think back, the library ghost scared the hell out of me when i was young, same as the terror dogs, the scene where the statue falls apart and the red eye starts to glow is awesome. CGI can't do it better.
AAAARGH! Why did I even click on the link!
$154 million budget...

Matewis: If nothing else, the trailer reminded that I still want to check out the 2009 ghostbusters game. Somehow I completely forgot about it.

LesterKnight99: DO IT! It's awesome, and is pretty much the third movie.
Really? Great! For years I thought that there was a third film. I think it might have been a warped memory from my days walking around after school in the video store across from my dad's laundry business. Come to think of it, there was a pic on the back of one of the ghostbuster video boxes that I didn't associate with any scene in either of the two films. I don't know how I missed the title on the front of the box. Probably didn't register with me :P
It was a totally earth shattering realization when I discovered that the two films were all that there was :(
I was expecting this to be bad, but I wasn't expecting THAT bad.

The sophomoric humor, the bad effects, bad costuming, the catastrophically bad casting... there are many shots in this trailer that I would expect from a Seltzerberg pardoy film, not an actual Ghostbusters film.

Good lord hollywood, what the actual fuck.

phaolo: Is the new trend going to be reboot + swapping gender?
Such innovation..O_o
Hmm, I wonder who would make a good female Indiana Jones, or male Ripley, or female terminator. Oh wait, they did that one already :P

Pseudoman: It would be great to have that game here on GOG. I had fun with the Wii version, but I would like to see how the proper story plays out.
The HD version is definitely the better game, its mechanics are more realized and visceral, it's the true Ghostbusters 3 we never got.

In the wake of this childhood ruining abomination of a movie, now would be the perfect time for GOG to swoop in and rescue the game from its DRM clutches.

I see so many people complain about CGI these days. The thing people don't seem to understand is that it's a matter of "the right tool for the right job". CGI is not the right tool for every job, but it is the right tool for some. And as always, using the right tool for a job is no guarantee of a job well done.

Let's take your example of the terror dogs from the original movie. You say "CGI can't do it better". I say it can. Not the specific scene you mentioned, that was awesome, and much better for having been a physical effect. But the wide shots of the dogs running? Oh yes, CGI would have made those better. Not in 1984 of course, because the technology wasn't there, but admit it, today you'd scold a movie maker for using stop-motion in that situation. It's a cool technique, but you simply can't make it blend believably with full motion video.

I think it can be seen as two different games. The PS2/Wii version has the graphic style following the Real Ghostbusters Cartoon, has some different level design and a bit more puzzles into it.
I like both version, the "HD" version is a lot of fun too, though personally i don't understand why you can play as a female Ghostbusters in the PS2/Wii version but not in the "HD" version.
Don't they usually use the best jokes in the trailer?... ouch. It actually looks like it might be worse than I could have ever imagined.

tinyE: It doesn't help that the gimmick only works once. The charm of the 1st one came from how fresh the concept and execution was. When they did #2 there was nothing fresh nothing exciting, and it sucked.
Oi, GB2 might not be as good as the original but it still has bags of charm, with the same believable chemistry between the cast, not to mention its infinitely quotable.

Egon: My parents didn't believe in toys
Ray: You mean you never even had a Slinky?
Egon: We had part of a slinky... but I straightened it

The line and the look on his face here as if he believes slinkies are supposed to be straight and that he fixed the problem. Is this scene not the most perfect summation of Egon's character?

At least that wasn't a reboot..
(but still a crappy movie, sadly)

About female Indy however..
EDIT: oh wait, silly me, there's Lara Croft already.

Entirely different developers worked on each version, I guess it just.. never occured to Terminal Reality to add a female buster.

And I don't understand why the HD version won't allow me to play the game completely in English, just because I happen to use a German language OS ...
