hedwards: There've been a few movies in that series. There were the first and second ones and then they did Alien versus Predator and then Predators. I'm not sure if I'm missing anything.
There was also Aliens versus Predator: Requiem in 2007. By all accounts, that one was nigh unwatchable.

Breja: Because last year two such movies made over a billion dollars each?
avatar
Elmofongo: I will admit the only good 80s movie "remake" was Predators:

Has its flaws and grips but compared to the competition this one so far wins by a landslide.
Decent movie. Leaps better than any other 80's remake/continuation.

It was. I'm one of the few who will actually defend the first AvP as adecent action film (although it could have been much, much more), but Requiem was mind-bogglingly bad.

Requiem was unwatchable......LITERALLY! :P

The reason it was so bad wasn't the story or effects or action, it was the fact that you couldn't see the damn thing! XD Virtually the entire movie takes place is total darkness which means you have to guess what is happening.

Sort of like the later Harry Potter movies ;)

AvP 1 was so much better. Why do people even hate that movie, it gave us exactly what we wanted

In this movie's case that's probably a good thing :D

Not really. What "we" ( meaning most people) wanted was something along the lines of the Aliens vs. Predator comics, or at least the games. Set in the future, in space.

Now, what I really want is actually an R-rated live action adaptation of Batman vs Predator. If they announced that as the upcoming Batman film with Affleck I'd be the happiest man alive.

I heard about that. Must've been really ridiculous. Movie-censorship.com even put this into the preface of their comparison between the R-rated and unrated versions of the film:

"Note: Due to the movie being as dark as it is, numerous screenshots had to be brightened extremely. They look rather washed out but do not represent the actual image quality of the movie."

I thought it was pretty boring, stupid and way too sanitized, thanks to the PG-13 rating. Not that the latter automatically means a film like that has to suck, though.
Admittedly, I dislike the whole Alien vs. Predator pairing in any medium, because it's a disservice to both series, which I regard as almost entirely incompatible with one another.

Two films that I really enjoyed but that received lukewarm reviews : Aliens: Resurrection and Predator 2. Especially the latter. I don't know what there is not to like about the film. It's not nearly as good as the first, but it's great fun.

Talking about Predator 2, I'm still waiting for that movie taking place in the 18th century (spoiler).

Oh yes please! That film needs to happen!

ScotchMonkey: Some good reboots:

Dredd, Batman Begins, John Carpenter's The Thing, Nosferatu (Herzog).
I'll have to watch Nosferatu, the other ones were definitely quite good. Although, The Thing wound up getting another reboot that was pretty bad as far as I can remember.

That's what happens when you hire gaffers from iD.

I'd like to see a crossover between Predator and Back to the Future.

I guess we know how that one ends already though. :P Still, it would be interesting to see how a Predator vs Pirates of the Caribbean would pan out...

Personally I quite liked Predator 2. It could have been better, yes. A lot better in places. It suffered from that formulaic approach the mid 80s - early 90s had to plotting out action movies. But it was still underrated.
By the way, you all know there is a new Predator movie in the works, right?
The jokes feels so forced...
