This is what you grew up with? Suddenly your love for CGI makes much more sense :D Damn I feel old.

This isn't CGI.

And you clearly have not seen how great the show is I mean watch the episode "Ultimate Enemy"

They could have pulled this off without all this drama.

Let Venkman, Stantz. Spengler and Winston(so no dumb cameos, but real acting roles) be dads with daughters, heck even Tully. Gozer is still badass angry and comes back for revenge - something off that sort, wants to plunge the world into chaos and take revenge for destroying the plot back then. Their daughters take on the challenge...it would also be funny to see how the characters of the daughters would have developed with the different parents.

The reboot on the other hand, well, I won't touch the movie and be happy with Ghostbusters one and two. There was never a reboot, what are you guys talking about(jedi voice, waves hand in jedi fashion).

I'm not saying this is CGI. And I'm not saying the show is bad, I've never seen it. All I meant was that if you grew up with it, than you're much younger than I thought.

I'm 23 years old incase you have not known.

I'm a child of the 90s Cartoon era.

tinyE: This may have been mentioned but as a beacon of light let me point out that the Mad Max reboot has been fucking great.

So far. :P
Ssshhh! Everytime someone praises Fury Road a Hollywood executive greenlights another reboot/remake. Now, thanks to this comment, we are going to get a dark, gritty, CGI heavy Fraggle Rock movie.

Elmofongo: Again I grew up with this ghostbuster:
As opposed to this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2oK9QtLCTI

It could be that Breja's just not a fan of Butch Hartman's work...

hedwards: I wonder how long before we get feminists bitching about how men refuse to go to movies that feature female actors? Rather than the fact that the movie has a terrible trailer.
avatar
granny: See, even beyond the trailer being a turd, this is the saddest thing about the film: it'll never be judged on its own merits. If/when it bombs, no one will say "Hey, maybe we made a bad film", or "Hey, maybe we should try something slightly original for a change", they'll immediately go for "Hey, y'all are sexist!"

Just based on the trailer, I'd say the biggest problem is that they're actually trying to be funny. What made the 80s Ghostbusters work was that all the actors played it (largely) straight. Take out the gags, and you've still got a decent action horror. With this new one, I'm pretty confident that if you take out the gags, you'll be left with nothing.

Blech....
They'll release other trailers, but with the cost of movies being what they are, I'm not sure how anybody but the die hard fans is going to be able to justify paying to go see it.
avatar
Crosmando: What happens when there's no longer any old franchises left to reboot? Does Hollywood implode?
They'll start rebooting reboots. So you can reboot while you're rebooting.
avatar
MaxFulvus: So, Ghostbusters franchise is officially dead.
RIP Ghostbusters.
To be fair, this is more or less what I expected when I heard they were making the movie. Harold Ramis is dead and I don't think any of the other people that worked on the previous movies and TV shows had any involvement in the production.

^^^^^Sounds crap so fuck that.

How about the team be all men just like the original. It was male fans that made ghostbusters franchise famous. Now the female cast will ruin it by turning it into some kind of chick-flick.
I knew it!

Actually now that you mention it, I never met a woman who is "fan" of Ghostbusters, only guys.
There's a recut trailer going around which makes things significantly better:

It does, but mostly because they cut out most of the jokes and kept the cuts to fractions of seconds in most of it. If the recut represents the movie, then fine, but I don't have a lot of optimism.
That looks like a disgrace... The downvotes speak volumes.
Now I need to watch the original to attempt to forget this.

markrichardb: They’re generally fine, just not memorable.
I forgot to mention in my previous reply that I was in agreement in general with what you were mentioning about remakes overall. I guess I got so used to saying the RoboCop remake, though flawed, was actually not as bad as most would have people believe back in 2014 that reiterating it has become something of a reflex to me at this point.

I can't say anything good about the other examples you listed though (and I've sat through them all, save for five minutes of the Nightmare on Elm Street remake). Of them, the one that really just baffles me as to why it even exists at all is the "prequel" to The Thing.
