Hi there I'm trying get more than a few games running to no avail. I was wondering if there's a guru here willing to help. The first game is Blade and Sword, and an action rpg. Upon clicking the shortcut, the game launches a black command prompt style window with no script, and closes immediately. I've run it in different compatability modes, but nothing seems to work. The other two that I've also been itching to play, and don't work are Carmageddon TDR 2000, and Cossacks anthology. All games mentioned are physical copies. Any help is much appreciated!

P. S. I'm using windows 8

Congratulations on your physical copies, but that isn't what GOG is really about.

There's a good chance someone could help you, but the simple fact is, most games from GOG have been patched for compatibility and stability (if not outright running) in a modern age. You should look into running those instead.
One of the reasons I'm here is that I can keep my physical copies in the shelf and don't have to tinker to get them running.

Carmageddon and Cossacks are available here, so I would suggest simply buying them.

Blade and Sword isn't here, but maybe someone can help you with that.
I have games from GoG. I also know that even Cossacks Anthology doesn't work properly for both customers on GoG and steam, so buying it won't help me any. Carmageddon also has issues, even when purchased here. Just because it's available here doesn't always mean it's patched.

PCGamingWiki is always a good resource:-
http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Home

You may also find helpful posts on the publishers / developers own forums if they have them. Or Steam's "discussion" (not review) may contain advice. It's possible someone's released an unofficial "community patch".

Some of these games use "SafeDisc" DRM which no longer works properly after Windows 7 (and fails completely on Windows 10). What you need to do there is find a reputable "noCD" crack for them. Cossacks games have timing issues as described on the PCGW page (linked to CPU speed). Carmageddon may need the "TDR2000.exe -s" command line switch to avoid crashing when starting a mission. I don't own any of the games though, so can't help from personal experience.

For Blade and sword try this:

Blade & sword No CD crack put it into the directory in the blade and sword folder where the game file with an .exe on the end is located it should allow you to run the game without the CD breaking it!

For Carmageddon TDR 2000

Use this: TDR MAX PACK should fix Errors with that game!

For Cossacks anthology this SHOULD work:

1st You MIGHT have to either rename the video folder or delete it

Cossacks Anthology CS DD Patch

Ugg windows 8...

Regardless, DosBox, possibly VirtualBox or another emulator might be needed. GoG games pre-package needed settings and emulators to make them work.

I know of places that have some games (MechWarrior 2 for example) prepackaged and ready to run on modern machines, which mostly includes DosBox and a configuration file to make them work.

I'll give the blade and sword solution a try, and i believe I've tried the s solution for carmageddon and it didnt work. I also downloaded several of the dll patches and DG voodoo, still nothing. There must be a way to get these games working. For the Cossacks Antholohy, the version I have is from Spain, I may be screwed as I don't know if there are patches in Spanish, as I saw they were divided by language for some reason. Would you lile if i elaborate a bit more on tje problems with the two latter?

Both Cossacks and Carmageddon are less than 5€... that's less than a pack of cigarettes (at least in Germany). I would try it. If they don't work, contact support. If they can't get them to run you'll get a refund.
First step in getting older games working is installing DirectX 9 from Microsoft. I used to have my Cossacks discs working but it was quite a hassle and I think the 99c spent on a GOG copy was money well spent.
I've seen posts for both cossacks and Carmageddon with similar problems on digital platforms. I'm not going to spend more money on a game I already have. If GOG does indeed fix the problems, there must be a solution that can be ironed out, after all the files for the games aren't any different.

desser90:
Correct, you can find and apply the same fixes yourself. It involves poking around in the index among other things.
I'm just posting here after quite a search. I've tried a few solutions, but as I've mentioned, none thus far have worked. Maybe someone on these forums knows something I don't, for example, one of the previous posts in this thread presented two possible solutions for two of the games I wasn't able to find.
Update on Blade & Sword... I placed the crack in the game directory, and it still does the same thing. I've got it on windows xp service pack 3 and I've tried service pack 2.

can you elaborate like in screenshots!

Also try running Blade and sword with the crack but in win 98 compatibility and run it as administrator or even none at all because sometimes the cracks have been patched so they work without compatibility settings!

Same thing happens to me with Alone in the dark the new nightmare the Spanish exe works fine but the English one no luck thing is I'm from Australia in Australia we don't learn Spanish!
