tx3000: OVERVIEW

GOG GALAXY MESSAGE: Got a code to use on GOG.com?
PERSON 1: Umm No I don't..and there is no option to get one sent
PERSON 2: Yes I do but I don't want to use it RIGHT NOW
PERSON 3: I did but I gave it to someone else to use and they used it
PERSON 4: Used the code person 3 gave them

OUTCOME:
PERSON 4 is now the only one who can get online.
PERSON 1, 2, and 3, are screwed
PERSON 1 is just outright screwed a. for not having a code, b. has no way to get a code sent to them.
PERSON 2 is forced to either use the code or not go online.
PERSON 3 doesn't make sense because why would anyone prevent themselves from being able to connect?

This is the dumbest set up I've ever seen.

Destro: The real question is whether it was redeemed and on which account.
That is exactly the question... There seems to be a misconception of what a code actually is. I guess the OP is person 3...

Dear OP, if you don't have the game in your account, you don't actually own it (at least not here). If you have the GOG version installed on your machine, you're using a illegitimate copy (pirated version).
The good news is, you can simply buy the game here, and everything will work as intended.

That is true for people 1, 2 and 3, although number two can make their copy legit simply by redeeming the code.
You don't really expect GOG to enable online features of Galaxy for pirated games, no?

POLE7645: I guess Galaxy really does requires a manual.

CARRiON.FLOWERS: Time to write GOG Galaxy for dummies? Those books existed for a reason.
Only bad thing with galaxy I've seen is that update thing with dreamfall it has insane updates and pretty big ones.

POLE7645: So let me get this straight. You imported an installation of this game that you previously didn't own (I assume it's how you got the game 'gifted' to you since you mentioned not using the code) without redeeming the code to register ti on your account?

GOG has used codes to gift games since day 1. That's how they register your games to your account so that you can re-download it again and receive support, and it's with your account that Galaxy manages your game.

I guess Galaxy really does requires a manual.
You're reply is totally pointless and has absolutely nothing to do with anything I brought up.

Klumpen0815: Fix Galaxy by
- removing everything from it that has anything to do with installation, patching or deinstallation of games
Oh god, no. Galaxy is currently the only way I can successfully patch Witcher 3 - stand-alone patches always fail one way or another... Of course it'd be better if the installers were fixed instead, but since I seem to be the only person in the world having these issues, that seems unlikely.

Destro: Nope - currently if you don't own the game, Galaxy goes into offline mode for that title. TW3 might be an exception for the rule as it had custom text on its game view. Then, when you click Connect, you get to redeem page, as OP described.

tx3000: I do own the game because someone gifted it to me. [...]
I guess the next logical questions would be - "Exactly how was the game gifted to you?" and "Do you have more than one account here at gOg?"

tx3000: I'm done with the stupidity of people on this thread. I don't need damn promotional code to go online with a game that was gifted to me.
avatar
adamhm: You do need the game registered to your account though in order to use said game's Galaxy features
That's false because how do you think I posted this message which can only mean that I am using the ONLINE features of Galaxy.

.
Doesn't matter how it was gifted and it doesn't matter if I have 1 account 10 accounts or no account at all.

This topic is about GALAXY requiring promotional codes in order to use online BONUS features that have nothing to do with games or someone's library or whatever.

The reason for this request is that the traditional ways of patching get neglected in the long run (and it already seems to be the case) because of Galaxy.

actually, it don't, since I just did and have never seen this message... so something somewhere have gone a bit pear-shaped. From Destro's post, it seems that the game is not registered to your account.

The online features of the Galaxy client itself are not the same thing as the Galaxy features of any particular game. To use the Galaxy client all you need is a GOG account. To use the Galaxy features of a game you need for the game to be registered to that account as well.

This is at least the 5th time someone has changed the topic context. Having games in your account have nothing to do with this. SO STOP TALKING ABOUT AND BRINGING UP GAMES, REGISTRATION OF GAMES, LIBRARIES, ACCOUNTS AND ANYTHING ELSE RELATING TO THAT.

Topic is about Galaxy requiring promotional codes to use online features AND NOTHING ELSE.

it matters because it seems to be something is wrong with the game being registered to your account, which can be due to a) something with the gifting procedure or b) you are connecting the wrong account if you have 10 of them. Do you have the recipe gOg sent you when you redeemed the gift?
What are these 'online features' anyhoo?

No.

You're using the website features of gog.com through Galaxy with the account tx3000. In order to use online features of any game, the account tx3000 has to own said game. Destro, the guy with the blue text pointed out that your account doesn't own the game. And the guys with the blue text can actually see into your account, because they run this place.

So in order to use the online features of the game with your current account, you simply have to get the game for this account. Either buy it from the website or through Galaxy. Or you can redeem a gift code, if you have one. If you haven't done any of the above, you don't legally own the game.

it is not, because you see this message because it seems to think the game is not registered to you account. If it was, you will not see this message. Sort out this, and you will not see the promotional code page again.

It does, if you have more than one, as said before, log in whichever one you redeemed the code with... assuming you actually had one, that is.

You're acting kinda suspicious, dude.
