timppu: Since you seem to know your Steam, how can I make the tiny text on the Steam client bigger? My desktop is 1920x1080 on a 17" screen, and the tiny text is quite hard to read, at least without glasses. I mean like the view where it lists my games, or all the options menus etc.

I have the same problem also within Team Fortress 2 ever since the latest update, as now the Community Servers are listed in a window with tiny text.

I don't want to use BIg Picture mode (isn't that a simplified interface for TV users?), nor do I want to lower my desktop resolution in order to make everything bigger on the screen.

Then again, I recall Galaxy having a similar issue, at least when viewing the GOG homepages through it. Why can't these clients have the same functionality to zoom the view like all web browsers do (or then that option is hidden somewhere)?

As for this Ubisoft offer... I might jump into it if they release something interesting (for free) that I don't already have on e.g. GOG. I see like 0 reason to obtain Sands of Time on UPlay, when I have a perfectly working version already elsewhere, especially one that doesn't require a client. The same thing like EA Origin offering Wing Commander games etc. for free.

Good for those who don't have those games yet, I guess.
Weird, GOG never notified me of your reply for some reason. I stumbled in here and saw your post just now.

I don't think you can configure the font size in Steam client officially. For the storefront and library bits you may be able to hack the font size by snooping around in the Steam client's folders for .css files and editing their CSS perhaps (I did that with Galaxy and it works nicely). I haven't tried to explore Steam client in this manner though so no idea if it is possible easily. Yeah, Big Picture Mode is designed for TV usage for the console gamer type crowd I believe. It looks nice and seems well designed but it's not my preferred way of doing things personally. Probably nicer if one is a big game controller fan and hates the keyboard and mouse. I'm the exact opposite though. :)

Yeah, I wish I could zoom in on all the gaming clients just like in mainstream browsers. Not possible and probably never will be, but as hinted above - with Galaxy you can hack the CSS files it uses to layout the user interface. I navigated to the directory they're stored in and there's a main.html there IIRC. Just loaded it in Firefox (looks messy but that's ok), then opened up the console with F12, and you can hack the CSS files and save them from there while reloading Galaxy client to see what it looks like. Just need to be careful to not hose it and then get angry at GOG for self-created bugs. :)

I grabbed both of the Ubisoft games already even though I have one of them on GOG already and the other on DVD. :) If I didn't already have an account on Uplay I probably wouldn't have, but if I have an account somewhere already and a free game is offered I will probably grab it if it is only a couple mouse clicks and no bullshit hassles. Some of the freebie promos out there want you to like them on Facebook, Twitter, and do a bunch of other crap ... that's perfectly fine of course, but if I have to do a tonne of stuff to get a free game I'll only do it if it's a game I really want badly enough that the effort I have to go through is worth it. :)

Looks like I have a total of 9 games on Uplay now that were all free:

- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (freebie from AMD for video card purchase)
- Might and Magic Duel of Champions (store freebie)
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (current promo)
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (store screwup a few years ago, they had a bunch of games free by mistake)
- Shootmania Storm Elite Demo (NFI)
- Silent Hunter 5 (store screwup a few years ago, they had a bunch of games free by mistake)
- The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot (not sure, store freebie I think)
- Splinter Cell (current promo)
- Watch_Dogs (someone on IRC offered it up to the channel I was in a while back and I was the first to respond)

So far I've only played a bit of Blood Dragon and Watch_Dogs though.

xa_chan: I have GOG Galaxy, Steam, Origin, Uplay and even the defunct Desura client. I must look so stupid to all of you
Or you look like a superhuman : how can you handle so much layers of pointlessness without even seeming like breaking a sweat ? :)
I know I can't stand being asked to perform the usual useless steps a client require, that and being thrown popups at.

edit : crap, this thread is not very fresh.

It's fresh enough.

If you have not played first splinter cell ever take that freaking client at play it. It's one of my favourite games ever.

For the record, that worked at least partially. It changed many of the fonts bigger in Steam UI, but not quite all. I guess that's fine, at least the important ones (like the game list, the menus etc.) got bigger.

It was a real bitch to go through that config file to change all font sizes. I didn't count it but there were probably something like 80 items I had to change manually in that one config file. Since they all didn't have the same font size configured, I couldn't even use a simple replace function to change them all in one swoop, I really had to search for and change them one by one. Took me a damn while.

But now it is done, and by making it a new skin, I hope it also stays this way through client updates so that I don't have to do it again.

Changing those didn't unfortunately have an effect to Team Fortress 2 font sizes, so to make TF2 server lists etc. at least somewhat readable, I had to change to a lower resolution in TF2 configuration (1280x720). I have absolutely no idea why Steam/Team Fortress 2 is using so EXTREMELY TINY fonts in many places, like the community server list in TF2. I mean, what the heck? It feels it is meant for 640x480 resolution or something like that, as even with 1280x720 (which is the lowest 16:9 resolution I know) the font seems quite small.
Just know that after the download with uplay you can actually uninstall uplay, copy the folder to any computer and play with no DRM.
I too hate uplay, but with this old free games I just use it to download them.
At least for Prince of Persia and Splinter cell you don't need to play them with uplay.
Cool. I saw the Steam Skins thing in steam settings but there's nothing in the UI to tell you anything about it and I never wanted to bother googling for info about it. I figured it wasn't actually really used by anyone. :)

Now I can set the fonts to be smaller so I can fit more text on the screen, everything is way too big in Steam.
I didn't even know there is skins.

Everybody says it's not free but it seems to be and splinter cell 1 is one of the best games ever made. Yes it's awesome.

Yeah, it was a pretty good game. I've solved the first 2 games twice, and the 3rd one once. Want to do another playthrough one of these days, then play the 4th game as well which I have but couldn't play when I got it as my computer couldn't handle it. :)

But my resolution for this year was to learn to finish reading threads before posting hasty answers. It clearly failed miserably so far.
