Good news!

Finally! That's been overdue for a long time. It didn't make any sense to use different criteria for movies and games, now they are finally coming to a point where both are treated equally. It was more than stupid that the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", which has swastikas everywhere in it, can be legally viewed by 12-year olds (actually, even 6-year olds if they are accompanied by one of their parents) but the international version of the adventure game with the same title and the same story cannot be bought even by adults, at least not regularly.

edit: Well, before its release on GoG, that was.

Given that it's at least 1200 EUR to get your game rated by the USK - I don't think publishers are willing to spend that on old games. New games sure but old games are probably out unless they are being remastered.

Problem with Commands - Behind Enemy lines is, that it's the only entry in the series that has been officially been banned by authorities due to violation against German law (§86a StGB Distribution of anti-constitutional symbols).

Commandos - In the call of duty, Commandos 2 - Men of Courage and Commandos 3 - Destination Berlin are not banned in it's unaltered version, but have this idiotic *.exe lock when trying to start them on an german OS xD .

Wolfenstein 3D has been actually banned because of it's depiction of violence (§131 StGB Endorsement of Violence) and later on it had been linked to a Nazi-Network that glorified the Nazi symbolic in game. It's still banned to this day in Germany.

RtcW is only banned to the degree, that you're not allowed to sell it to minors or advertise it (both the German and Original Version).

And let's be honest: The USK has been becoming mild. Games like The New Order would have never been released the way it is now in Germany like 10 or 20 years ago.

But i like that they have the opportunity now to rate games that show anti-constitutional symbols.

Well, it depends of definition of "glorify". After all, many WW2 strategies feature Germain campaign, where soldiers of the 3rd Reich are protagonists.

So was the 3rd Reich. :P

Recently Blitzkrieg series was updated to include new feature (Galaxy Crossplay). Developers used latest compilers to do theirs work.
As a result, games became unplayable on Windows XP and Vista.
Thankfully, GOG/Nival interactive made old versions available as Extra downloads.

Glorify should realistically mean = 3.Reich was a good thing / german is the masterrace / fight to destroy all not-arian races etc.

Normal fighting on the german side without committing warcrimes or genocide would not be considered glorify, german USK / BPjM does look at those things quite realistically.

No more than when we have games that don't depict the allies committing crimes against humanity. We get a bit of a pass because we weren't shoving millions of people into ovens and gas chambers, but that doesn't mean that it was OK to intentionally kill all those civilians in places like Dresden and Tokyo, not to mention the questionable dropping of that second nuclear bomb.

I don't recall hearing people clamoring for games that more accurately depicted the evils on that side of the conflict.

EDIT: Or to make it more specific playing WWII Russians and not raping and murdering innocent civilians. The governments and militaries of WWII have a ton of blood on their hands as well as war crimes that were never properly handled.
