PaterAlf: I've finally completed
Age of Wonders. The last mission was pretty easy, because in the end I was allied with the humans and the elves and only had to wait for them to kill each other. When the elves were already pretty weak, I declared war, killed their leader and the game was over.
The end was quite sad though. I was able to bring peace to the world, but it came at a very high price (personally and for some of the races). I think I will have to play again in the future to find out if there is a better end when I choose different allies.
Have to say that I absolutely loved this game and that it became one of my all-time favourites. I guess I have to get the sequels at some point to find out if they are equally good.
With this game completed I can concentrate on the assigned
Return to Castle Wolfenstein now.
Congratulations for beating Age of Wonders!
My end for this game was a rather peaceful one, as I chose the Dwarves over the Lizardmen. It's nice to see that it actually matters which faction you choose! I heard that
Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic is supposed to be the best title of the series. The recent
Age Of Wonders 3 is also thought to be a strong entry.

Progress update on
Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos Assigned by
PaterAlf I just managed to defeat Scotia and have thus completed the game! While venturing through the Opinwood and the Gorkha Swamp I managed to collect the first two ingredients for the elixir, a key and also the Ruby of Truth.
Afterwards, my party headed to the Urbish Mines, where a particular powerful monster awaited. I could only damage it using two magical green skulls, yet the game gave me no information whatsoever on them. I had to look that up online, as I just did not know how to get around this particular foe.
In the mines I found Paulson, knight of the king and now third member of my party. I also found the third ingredient. The next stop was the city of Yvel in which I found the last component. My party ventured to the White Tower in which the elixir had to be made but it was full of strong monsters, especially some ridiculously powerful ghosts. Again, the internet helped me finding a solution.
Upon my return to the city, I found it under heavy attack by Scotia's Dark Army. But my party managed to thwart the assault and find a way to Castle Cimmeria, in which Scotia resides. Of course, it was full of traps, puzzles and exceptional strong monsters. Scotia also had King Richard and tainted the magical barrier which helped to protect him from the poison.
Yet no task was too great for my party of heroes and therefore they could rescue the king and slay the evil witch.
All in all, this is really a very good game which I enjoyed quite much, yet it sometimes shows its age. Not graphically, of course, but the UI, e.g. the inventory, is tedious compared to what one is used nowadays. There is also no option to help the player if he is stuck. Some would call it "holding hands" while other would say "frustrating design" - I am not really sure how to think about it ;-)
Thank you, PaterAlf, for the recommendation!
But now, I am in need for a new assignment - gentlemen, please choose!
